Her life has become a single, low note. Will an Italian escape strike a joyful chord in her soul?
Clara Smith seems out of tune, drifting through one empty day after another. Alone in LA for Christmas and uncertain about her new boyfriend, the pianist-turned-lawyer feels as fake as the snow. But when her firm dispatches her to Siena, Italy to lead a major project, the rhythm of the daily grind … the daily grind gloriously changes tempo.
Bonding with her charismatic eighty-year-old neighbor over his large collection of photographs, she uncovers a picture of a mysterious woman. And a breathtaking cross-country adventure, in search of the framed beauty who shares her name gives voice to Clara’s long-silenced passions.
Can a melodious tour through vineyards and sun-drenched landscapes restore her sense of harmony?

This story is about Clara a talented pianist a a early age, but after a concert she became extremely emotional and decides not to perform again. She attends college and becomes a successful lawyer. The firm she works for sends her on assignment to Siena Italy, and while there she meets her delightful neighbor an older gentlemen. Through him and his photography , she awakens the creativity back into her life. A good read and I loved the descriptions of Siena and especially Rome where I live for a year as it brought back fond memories.
What an interesting book! I truly enjoyed getting to know the characters, as unique as they were. Amazing way to tell Clara’s story.
Beautiful, emotional story. A good read,
Couldn’t get into it. Lost interest.
Main character searches & finds herself in unpredictable ways. Great read
A really good story. I enjoed the charters and the way the main character became into her self.
Didn’t like the ending.
Enjoyed all about Italy – I’ve been there and could picture all the decscriptive things she was writing about
Great characters and wonderful story of self discovery.
I found it very hard to get into. In spite of that, I kept reading, waiting for something to happen and it didn’t. In the end I was depressed. I won’t be getting the next one.
Nice story
I had a hard time even describing this book to my husband. It was a very deep, complicated story. Maybe it was because it was so very different from my life and talents. I found it difficult for me to relate, and yet, I was totally captivated. This was well written and I very much enjoyed being introduced to this way of life.
Dull and the main character was weird–didn’t communicate in a normal, credible way with other key characters. Kept waiting for something interesting to happen; it didn’t. The best part of the book was the main character’s time spent in Italy with an elderly gay photographer.
Great book- very different- I loved it!
Interesting complex plot about a woman’s journey to discover her authentic self.
Easy to read and sentimental
I wanted to see what happened to Clare. She hid behind her music yet it alao set her free. The reader moves along with Clare in a very personal and intimate journey. Bitter sweet, well written with interestingly developed characters.
The storyline was developed to keep you guessing what would come next. It gives the reader opportunities to join in the search and maybe do a little reflecting what if you were Clara. How would that story end?
Lovely self discovery journey for one woman.
This book is very thought provoking. It has helped me to see I need to live more in the moment. I loved it.
