“All-consuming, deep, seductive, so damn emotional—this book is everything I expect from Jewel E. Ann. ~ Pam Godwin, New York Times bestselling authorFlint Hopkins finds the perfect tenant to rent the space above his Minneapolis-based law office. All the t’s are crossed and i’s dotted on Ellen’s application. Her references are good. And she’s easy on the eyes.Until … eyes.
Until …
Flint discovers Ellen Rodgers, Board-Certified Music Therapist, plays music. Bongos, guitars, singing—not Beethoven administered through noise-cancelling headphones.
The cut-throat attorney serves up an eviction notice to the bubbly, constantly-humming redhead who’s too sexy for her own good. But luck is on Ellen’s side when Flint’s autistic son, Harrison, takes an instant liking to her. A single dad can’t compete with guitars—and rats. Yes, she has pet rats.
This woman …
She’s annoyingly happy with a constant need to touch him—adjust his tie, button his shirt, invade his space, and mess with his mind.
Still …
She must go.
Their lust-hate relationship escalates into something beautiful and tragic. This sexy, romantic-comedy explores the things we want, the things we need, and the impossible decisions parents and children make to survive.

Such a beautifully written book. One of my all time favorite books.
A sweet story about a second chance many don’t get! This will pull at your heart!
Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to my first five-star book of 2018. Look the Part is a massive gem in author Jewel E. Ann’s impressive collection of written treasures. This book is so stunning it took my breath away. It’s a unique take on second-chance romance, and it just may be my favorite work of hers to date.
I have a serious girl crush on Ellen. The woman is larger than life—joyful, talented, intuitive, and fearless. She is beyond cool. I want to be her when I grow up. I also fell hard for Flint, a single father. He is a broken shell of a man whose life solely revolves around his son. I would be surprised if Flint doesn’t run away with your heart.
Both Flint and Ellen’s lives have been touched by pain and regret. However, she invades his drab life with her persistent exuberance and challenges him to examine his self-imposed loneliness and grab a second chance at love. All the while, Flint fights his hate/lust feelings towards her. Their sparring, wit, and tenderness make them lovely together.
I absolutely adored Flint’s autistic son, Harrison. He may be socially awkward and emotionally detached, but his bluntness is charming and the source of many gratifying chuckles. Having been around autistic children, I’m thrilled by Harrison’s realistic portrayal. The connection between Harrison and Ellen warms the heart, and the relationship between Flint and his son is delightful.
There are many layers to the story, so be prepared to go through a gambit of emotions. I loved every single page of Look the Part. I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. For me, this moving book is perfection with just the right blend of laugh out loud humor, poignancy, and swooning galore.
Jewel E Ann is fantastic and this book is one of my all time favorites. It has it all – angst, happiness, action and wonderful characters.
I picked this one up because of the author and the awesome cover. I really had no clue what it was about, didn’t really care. I was all, damn that cover….click. This is such a beautiful story. It got my black heart feeling all those yucky emotions a couple of times. One part broke my stone heart in two! Just crack, right down the middle. It gave me the warm fuzzies and I loved, loved, loved the epilogue. Can Harrison have a book please?! Gah, this book is pretty amazing.
This was my first read of Jewel’s. I couldn’t have been much more pleased with this book than I was!
This book is equally parts, funny, snarky, heart moving, heart warming, and full of swoons. I couldn’t put this one down.
The characters made this book. Flint, Ellen, Flint’s son, both Flint’s parents and Ellen’s parents. These characters were the making of a fantastic, entertaining book.
I could sit here and go on and on about this book, but then I would be giving away all of the wonderful things about this book that you need to experience yourself. If you are in the mood to swoon and laugh, you better snag this one now!
A.MA.ZING.
The Transcend Duet wasn’t a “accident”. This author is so, so, SO talented.
With her plots, her characters and ALL THE FEELINGS (from tears to laughs).
Jewel E. Ann is my new One-Click Author, and one of my greatest “bookish discoveries” this year.
And yes, I’m totally doing a JewelEAnn-Books-Marathon thiS summer (in fact, I’ve already started it with LOOK THE PART).
Trust me, you NEED to read this book.
I love her writing style. A wonderful light read
4.5 stars
“And you’re the first breath of oxygen that’s touched my lungs in ten years,” he whispers in my ear.
Look the Part is the third book I read by Jewel E. Ann. Just like with the previous two, the author has created such great characters in this book. Opposites attract seems like a perfect way to categorize the relationship between Ellen and Flint. Ellen is super out-going, sweet, sassy and uplifting. Flint is withdrawn, stubborn, headstrong and wants everything to go his way. When these two meet each other for the first time, I just knew their interactions would be full of banter and that each of them would try to out smart the other. I loved Ellen so much. She was such a fun character and I enjoyed seeing her going against Flint. I also loved her profession as Music Therapist, because it fit her personality perfectly. Plus she has pet RATS (SO AWESOME!). Flint is a Lawyer, and he certainly acted like your typical Lawyer.
“I want to be his greatest strength- and his greatest weakness. I want to be where he hides his lies and finds his truth.”
There is also Harrison, Flint’s autistic son, and I will guarantee you guys that he will steal the show many times. His straight forwardness and speaking without a filter resulted into such awkward and embarrassing moments for Ellen and Flint. It seriously had me laughing out loud a couple of times. I especially loved the interaction between Ellen and Harrison, and also him and her pet rats. This friendship drove Flint crazy which I loved. There is also a very strong attraction between Ellen and Flint, and when these two came together it was very explosive. Of course not everything is light and fun, because both of these characters have gone through some things in their pasts and are still struggling with it. Especially Flint has a lot of feelings of guilt and doesn’t think he deserves to be happy and find love. However, he can’t resist wanting Ellen and building a family with her.
If you want to know more then make sure you pick this book up. It was such a fun and awesome book, with a couple of emotional scenes. It’s another great book by Jewel E. Ann, and with each book I read by her I get the urge to binge on all her other books. This author comes up with the most refreshing stories/characters and I just can’t get enough of it. Look the Part is a phenomenal contemporary romance and I highly recommend it to everyone.
I absolutely loved this book! Jewel E. Ann is such a talented writer. There were so many passages that leapt off the page.
The story of Flint and Ellen..
Flint is a lawyer that somehow has lost all motives for life.. except he has his son, Harrison and adorable Autistic teenage boy that is keeping him alive and kicking more than ever.. Flint was handsome and successful in his work but his mood and attitude was always sour and didn’t have many friends or people who wanted to hang out with him.. his world was all about his son.. he didn’t have time for flirting or even dating.. he had a very bad mood most of the time, he was strict and he had a funny way with food.. specially if it is for his son..
Ellen is a beautiful Music Therapist who happened to rent a new office above Flint.. she was making a new life far away from her past.. she is not running from it but she wants to forget all about it.. she was once in love and he wasn’t the prince she thought he was… he made her feel less and this time she didn’t want to repeat the same mistake all over again.. this time she was ready to feel and to let go..
“My darling girl, the words I love you only hurt the people who refuse to set them free. So when you feel it, say it.”
Everything was going great in her new life and new office until her first new patience arrived, and all the “noises” of her therapy started to flow around the whole building through Flints doors… bringing down the possibility to continue… she needs to find another place, not before falling in love with her new landlord..
“When people touch, they no longer feel like strangers. It’s a feeling. When humans share feelings, they connect on an intimate level. It’s why I love music. It can go deeper than words. Rhythm is the heartbeat of your soul.”
This is a great story, you’re going to laugh a lot with Harrison, his characters is amazing, he is strong, open and always say what he needs to say without filters.. he is a very important part and key for Ellen and Flint relationship..
“He wants to ask you on a date. No sex. No kissing. Dinner and a movie. And I can’t go with you.”
Flint is trying so hard to ignore his feelings about Ellen, he constantly put objections and walls so he can ignore the intense attractions between them… Ellen is a very relaxed and easy going heroine, she knows there is something going on between her and flint but she also knows Flint is trying so hard not to act on those feelings.. so in the mean time while they decide if they can work in the same building their relationship starts to bloom… feelings start to get strong, and the chemistry is electric.. there is no more denying for these two to finally take that step..
“Someday I’m going to get to live my happily ever after. No more packing up and driving away from the man that I love. Everyone has their time. I will find mine.”
love the story, very emotional with a funny side.. you’re going to love the characters and cry with their stubbornness and difficulties but most of all you will love them and feel every emotion they went though.. this was my first book by Jewel E. Ann looking forward to read more of her words..
I dived into this book thinking it was just another romance book, but it’s not. It’s a story of family, love, tragedy, guilt, emotional healing and all the crap that life sometimes throws at you relentlessly and makes you work hard for your happy ending, even if you think you can’t.
You’ll laugh with this one. The first chapters are absolutely hilarious. The banter between characters is delicious. Amanda being “fired” every day by Flint, Elle, Elles’ father, Harrison, Lady Gaga, Flint trying to evict Elle from the loft she rented from him before he realized that a music therapist astonishingly plays music, disturbing his precious concentration while he’s working in the office below her…
I love how Ellen talks things through, the good and the bad, and she doesn’t allow misunderstandings to linger or to taint what’s happening. It’s refreshing to read a story without misunderstandings that can be solved talking. And she talks, sometimes I felt she was pushing him too far, trying too hard, but it passed soon.
I also loved how Harrison (Flint’s 12-year-old son with a mild ASD) is the one who influences the relationship between his father and Ellen, because that’s real life too. Life is not fair most of the time, and we don’t get what we want or what we deserve. We see Flint dealing with the guilt of something that happened in his past, and Ellen’s reaction to that fact when she knew was just perfect.
I won’t talk more about what happens in the book because I don’t want to spoil anything. I’ll just say that I don’t usually like stories with dead exes, but this was so funny, angsty and perfect that it’s gone directly to my stack of favourite books.
This was the first book I read by this author, but it won’t be the last.
5 I want this life Stars
I love Flint Hopkins that’s all there is to say. I loved him when I met him in another of Jewels books – One ( which was fab )
I didn’t know then that he had his own story until the end of that book. I was actually going to beg this Author to give us Flints book that’s how much I loved him. I wanted to know his secrets, now that I do he’s stolen even more of my heart.
Flint Hopkins isn’t perfect he’s flawed and very closed off. Yes he’s made mistakes he lives with the tragedy everyday. That tragic night cost him dearly and almost destroyed him. The only thing keeping him going is the love for his son Harrison.
Flint isn’t looking for love he doesn’t think he deserves it.
Looking after his son has been his only priority for such a long time.
That is until a beautiful redhead rents a property from him and she gets under his skin like no other woman has for the past 10 years.
Ellen Rodgers I have huge love for this woman she’s a music lover with a penchant for pet rats. I liked her quirkiness straight away.
She’s a breath of fresh air for Flint. She challenges him and makes him wish for things he never thought he’d want again.
There’s also the bond she has with Harrison that Flint can’t ignore, his son doesn’t form emotional attachments easily but it seems he has to this Music Therapy teacher.
I loved everything about this story it’s a very captivating emotional journey. Once I started I couldn’t put this book down. Such a compelling read that put a huge smile on my face. I adored Harrison this little guy says exactly what he thinks but he made me laugh so much. I’d love to see some kind of spin off story with him in the future.
Another massive hit from Jewel E Ann. This Author has fast become one of my favourites.
All the Feels with so much Heart and Humor
Jewel E Ann tells a story that is so real. It made me feel every emotion with heartbroken tears to swoony warm and fuzzies!
Grumpy, tough lawyer Flint Hopkins meets his match in cheerful always humming music therapist Ellen Rodgers. Adding in Flint’s autistic son, Harrison, his secretary Amanda, Ellen’s pet rats and I was a complete goner for this story and all of its characters!
“In twenty-four hours he completely took my heart in the Hail Mary of all Hail Mary passes. The man who feels unworthy of true happiness laid his whole heart open for me. I’m not sure what hurt most, the desperation in his eyes when he told me he loved me or the realization on his face when it became clear that no amount of love could keep me here.”
Be prepared for a major book hangover. It might only be January, but I can safely say that this book will be on my list of top books for 2018!
6 Stars!!
Really enjoyed this one! Flint is a character introduced in One, but you do not have to read One to enjoy this story (although you should!)
Flint exists purely for his son, as having a life would be unfair to the life that ended because of his actions. When he rents the office space above his to music therapist, Ellen Rodgers, there is no way he could know the ramifications that action will have on his life!
The character development was “fantastic!” Flint with his dour demeanor who is so much more than his past, but can’t allow himself to realize it. Ellen with her “don’t take no for an answer” persistence that hides a soul hurt by rejection. The supporting characters were fabulous and I especially enjoyed Harrison, Amanda, and Camilla and Gene.
The story deals with some real issues and forgiveness is a major theme throughout. The dialogue is witty but sincere. It’s quite the journey but once the summit is reached you just have to smile and bask in the good feelings you get from experiencing this book. I recommend it!
I can say this with a smile on my face and dried up tear streaks on my cheeks- this book is worth every cent, every minute, and every spilled emotion.
Look The Part of a reader and snatch it up now. Jewel E. Ann manages to make you fall hard and fast for a man that makes you want to shake him almost as much as kiss him. Flint (known as “Flinton” to those who matter) is a tough nut to crack. History and guilt cripple his ability to enjoy life. And the perky, touchy, New music therapist on scene only jeopardizes his personal purgatory.
It’s hard to live in self exiled misery with your own personal sunshine glaring brightly in your face. Now don’t misunderstand, the sun isn’t always good. And sometimes it shines too brightly…
No unicorns were harmed in this book and in the end your smile will feel like Sunshine.
This book doesn’t just look the part, it’s perfect. It delivers everything I adore in a story. It’s humorous, it’s emotional, it’s insightful and where necessary it doesn’t pull its punches. Flint Hopkins has a lot to feel guilty about. However, even though we are shown his arrogance, his weakness, which in the past led him to making a catastrophic decision, I was never able to dislike him. Perhaps it’s because this author is exceptional at telling it like it is, yet allowing her characters to redeem themselves in other ways, in ways which seem real and justified. Years of regret have understandably taken its toll on Flint and it will take someone special to break through his dour exterior. There’s no doom and gloom here, however, and chapters from Flint’s point of view had me giggling as they show us that he’s not completely shut down. His surly manner is wonderfully balanced with the humour of his gloriously funny secretary Amanda and his interactions with his son Harrison. Harrison is a sweetheart. I love his honesty and forthright approach to life. His personality and manner are clearly something which have been written with care and thoughtfully executed.
Flint has met his match in Ellen. I have to say I want to hug this author for creating the beautiful soul that is Ellen Rodgers. A music therapist she is kind and intelligent, witty and tenacious and full of life. She is all these things without being sickly sweet. She’s had her own share of heartache but hasn’t allowed this to weaken her resolve. When life challenges her, she rolls up her sleeves and gets on with it. She is a joy to read and I love her. One of my favourite book heroines ever.
Look the Part is a beautiful story about regret and forgiveness, redemption and second chances. I laughed, I cried, I sighed with happiness across the pages of this book and I didn’t want it to end.
“A single dad meets a touchy rat lady” would be the easiest way to describe LOOK THE PART by Jewel E. Ann but the feels it left me are beyond words. I’m not sure why I ‘m just meeting this author now because SHE IS FCKEN AMAZING! Tthis author wrote about very unique characters and storyline that will surely melt your heart in a puddle as you laugh your a$$ out!! Crazy, right? It’s not everyday I encounter a book this well-balanced and amazingly written at the same time. If you’re in the mood for crazy LOL banters, scorching hot chemistry, single dad, enemies-to-lovers, or just a second chance romance that will stick with you for a long time, LOOK THE PART is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
This book was just a masterpiece. I felt everything reading this book. Within the first couple of paragraphs, you just know that your emotions are going to be tested by this book. Flint and Ellen are just the best characters. They are unique, quirky and different. The tension and banter between them in the beginning of the book is playful and flirty and so smart.
Ellen: “You sure do look the part Mr. Hopkins”. Every time, she said this during different parts of the book, I laughed, I choked up. Who knew that the same 8 words could make you feel so many different things each time you read them.
And while these two characters were amazing enough, there were so many others. Harry… We should all be so lucky to encounter a soul like his and watching him and Elle bond, simply precious. The RATS!! OMG, Lady Gaga had me in fits of giggles. I almost want to go out and get some of them for my own pets. My highlighting finger was working overtime while reading this. And as funny as this book is, there are moments that you just couldn’t imagine being in yourself and how tragic it must be to survive them. I’m still in awe of all of the emotions this book brought out of me and I won’t be forgetting it any time soon. It’s likely this book will be underrated, but it will probably be in my top 10 for the year.

I have to say, being a Jewel E Ann book, you honestly never really know what you are going to get when you crack it open. With Look The Part, you get a passionate story of a man with a tragic history, a woman who just wants to help people musically and unbridled passion that has so many hilarious moments but also emotional ones. I could relate a lot with this story as an ASD mom when it came to Flint and his son. It was very relatable for me! As the story flows, emotions and so many little twists and turns happen that you honestly cannot put this book down. I was blown away.
Overall, this is a classic Jewel book. You have amazing passion, witty banter and awkward moments but they all mesh so well together that it just leaps off the page. This story is no different. If you are a fan of her work, you will very much want to read this one! It is an amazing story of finding love after something so tragic and learning that you are worthy of something precious.
