“All-consuming, deep, seductive, so damn emotional—this book is everything I expect from Jewel E. Ann. ~ Pam Godwin, New York Times bestselling authorFlint Hopkins finds the perfect tenant to rent the space above his Minneapolis-based law office. All the t’s are crossed and i’s dotted on Ellen’s application. Her references are good. And she’s easy on the eyes.Until … eyes.

Flint discovers Ellen Rodgers, Board-Certified Music Therapist, plays music. Bongos, guitars, singing—not Beethoven administered through noise-cancelling headphones.
The cut-throat attorney serves up an eviction notice to the bubbly, constantly-humming redhead who’s too sexy for her own good. But luck is on Ellen’s side when Flint’s autistic son, Harrison, takes an instant liking to her. A single dad can’t compete with guitars—and rats. Yes, she has pet rats.
This woman …
She’s annoyingly happy with a constant need to touch him—adjust his tie, button his shirt, invade his space, and mess with his mind.
Still …
She must go.
Their lust-hate relationship escalates into something beautiful and tragic. This sexy, romantic-comedy explores the things we want, the things we need, and the impossible decisions parents and children make to survive.

Another emotionally charged story by Jewel E. Ann. Look the Part starts with a difficult tragedy and that tragedy continues to surround the Flint throughout the story even 10 years later. I loved Ellen so very much. Despite her own tragedies, she was willing to put herself out there even if there was a chance that she’d be hurt. Her quirkiness completely enthralled me. For me though, Harrison stole the show with his precocious ways along with his own world view through his autism. The sexy times were truly nicely sexy indeed and the relationships each had with everyone in their lives were perfectly written.
3.5 stars
This book contained lots of things that I love in a story. Single parents, an enemies-to-lovers vibe at the beginning, autistic character, light and understated comedy, low angst, and a broken main character. And great writing. It all worked. And enjoyable read but nothing that really wow-ed me.
I always jump-in into Jewel books with no preparation. Each time, she will pull me back up and surpass all my emotions. I felt connected with Flint and Elle relationship. They were just regular peoples who have mistakes and learn to adapt with it. ‘Look the Part’ at first I didnt get what it mean? Flint and Elle had shown that love is possible. I sat and laugh through their relationship. Warm bubbly with hint of many struggles. The story was engaging and I fell inlove with little Boy Harry and Lady Gaga. Jewel, Your book always made me smile and I cant never stop reading. Truly this was an unique love story.
Jewel E Ann never lets me down. Flint and Ellen broke my heart and put it back together again. I liked Flint in One but he was a little uptight. Now I totally understand him better. They both have had some devastating tragedy in their pasts. Ellen is funny and love how she gives Harrison a chance to be his best self. Harry is prone to say just whats on his mind and that kept me entertained. I love every word this woman writes and can’t wait for the next book!
Such a great story with realistic issues people face.
Rating: 5 PERFECT STARS
I loved this story, seriously loved it.
But not the rats, never the rats. #sorrynotsorry
New to me author
Don’t you love it when you come across a book
that’s so good you devour it. This is different to anything I have read. This is so unbelievably good, I loved everything about it. Ellen what an amazing character love her and Flint together. I wish I had Amanda job. You have to love a kid like Harrison and I loved his and Flint dynamic. The dads were hilarious so funny. A great book except for the rat babies I tried to love them I did and I even try to think of Splinter because I love him but nope couldn’t do it
Look the Part is sooo good! Definitely so much more than meets the eye. If you know Jewel, you know she is a hoot and this book is so freaking funny. It’s also smart, sexy, and emotional. Look the Part is the full package!
Ever since I met Flint in ONE (which is amazing btw), I have been waiting for him! Well, he did not disappoint! Ahhhh… Flint! He is just so damn dreamy! Broken, and flawed, but perfect at the same time. I LOVE the chemistry between him and Ellen. She is such a great heroine! Strong and sassy, just how I like them! Jewel always knows how to write a kickass heroine.
If you’re looking for a beautiful and funny story, this one is not to be missed!!
You have done it again. I’m in love with Flint the smoking hot, sexy as sin, dressed to the nines, hot guy with an attitude. The storyline sucks you in to fall in love with all of the characters. It was so refreshing to read about struggles that seem real and bigger than life. I cried and I laughed my butt off. Keep them coming Jewel, I’m your new biggest fan.
Jewel E. Ann doesn’t know how to write a bad book…nothing I’ve read, anyway.
This book is one of my all-time favorite reads. It’s funny, swoony, and heartbreaking all at the same time. Flint and Ellen are one of my all-time favorite couples. And, boy oh boy, is this book hot!!!!!! Jewel E. Ann could do a masterclass on sexual tension. The scenes with Ell’s grandmother had me in stitches. An absolute must-read.
A very sweet romance between two people dealing with the hurts and issues of the past. I did get a little slow in the middle, but otherwise, I really enjoyed this. As someone living in the twin cities, I also think Pizza Luce is the best!
What an excellent read. I thoroughly enjoyed Look the Part. I loved chirpy and too positive Ellen and the tortured and guilt-ridden Flint. I even adored Harrison. Look the Part is a very heartfelt, sweet book. I loved Jewel E. Ann’s writing and I can’t believe it took me so long to read one of her books. I loved how overly protective and caring Flint was with his son. He is most definitely tortured and feels hes not deserving of being happy, but I like how Ellen makes it hard for him to stay away. Ellen was a really sweet heroine, who was a breath of fresh air and the sweetest thing ever. Ellen was exactly what Flint needed to start living again and move on from his tragic mistake.
This was a wonderful book that I really enjoyed. It has its serious moments while also being funny, sexy, heartfelt, and sweet. Definitely pick this book up.
A story of love, loss, and new beginnings. The characters are witty, moody, and so much fun. Great read. One of my favorite JEA books.
This can be read as a stand alone. Chronologically it comes after the novel, One.
This is a favorite for 2018. Great story that makes you cry and laugh out loud. Wonderfully written characters, including amazing secondary characters. I just discovered this author and can’t wait to read more of her books. This one is can’t miss.
What can I say about this author that I haven’t said before? Yes, this is how I’m going to start my review. I will say this, Look the Part is by far my favorite for 2018 already.
I am in the minority when I say a cover does not get me to read a book, but a great blurb. This cover, well let’s just say, it fits the book perfectly, the blurb even more. It has taken me a full day to get over Look the Part. I usually need a day or two when a read her books, this one, is no exception.
We have Flint Hopkins, raising his autistic son, the best way he knows how. He loves his son, oh my does he, but with that love comes guilt. He made a mistake that his guilt is paying the ultimate price for, was it unforgivable? I will let you decide that. I’ve noticed some reactions to the Prologue and maybe these reactions in real life would give us the same, but when it’s in a book and there may be more to the story. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Right? Remember this is fiction, but you will fall in love with Flint.
Enter Ellen Rodgers, his new tenant. Little did Flint know, she would turn his world upside, oh he wants to evict her one week into her residency of her new office space. This is what happens when you don’t ask the right questions, you see Ellen is a music therapist, between the drum playing and the therapeutic rats she has, well there’s so much a man can take, even though she’s hot. It’s going to be tough, since his son, Harrison, has somewhat bonded with Ellen and her rats. Ellen is trying a fresh start in Minnesota, getting her life back in order after her divorce. Yet, she can’t convince the grumpy landlord with the hot three piece suit that she can’t move out of her office space. Oh the banter between Flint and Ellen, it’s a banter that Jewel E. Ann can only write, And when you are, what are doing that requires complete silence? Charming snakes? Narrating audio books?
There’s so much passion, the passion and chemistry oozes throughout this read, and the tears, oh the fucking tears. One minute you’re laughing your ass off, the next you’re reaching for a box of tissues, another one you clutching your heart. This is what Jewel E. Ann does to a reader. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
I could go on and on, go one click, or if you are in the Kindle Unlimited program, you can read it for free. You will not regret it, that’s for sure.
Can I give a shout out to Amanda, Flint’s sarcastic, yet loving secretary, because she reminds me a lot like myself ”On your desk, three inches from your hand. If you move, the file will bite you because you’re preoccupied with your best friend moving away and your fantastic new tenant who has stolen Harrison’s music-loving-heart. Amanda is definitely my spirit animal.
I will leave you with one more quote I love this life. I love Jewel E. Ann.
Lawyer Flint Hopkins leases out an office space in his building to music therapist Ellen Rodgers, not realizing what all that entails. As Ellen points out when he complains about the noise, my title is “Music Therapist”. This involves music! Immediately he tries to have her evicted because he doesn’t like the noise. However, that is pretty much the only thing he doesn’t like about her. She is energetic, lovely, musical, funny and his 12 year old autistic son, Harrison, LOVES her. After school and in between her appointments Harrison goes up to her office and plays her guitar. VERY well. Harrison also tells his dad that he is not allowed to “date” Elle because she is his friend. Even after his son basically called dibs on her, Flint is drawn in to her vibrant personality and their sizzling chemistry.
The premise of Look the Part is fun, funny, and sweet. However, inside both Flint and Elle are deep, dark, emotions that they are hiding from. Elle, who is always straightening Flints tie and touching his clothes, needs a physical connection. Flint, keeps his connections impersonal and only occasionally physical. I liked how she wanted to draw him closer and he only wanted her close briefly. It was a yin and yang that created a tension that their comic actions played well with. As the story evolves and the reader is brought into why they each have these fears we can see how their fears are actually tying them together instead of keeping them apart. Harrison was a really cool addition to the story. His autism was pretty mild but a challenge for his father and when Harrison spoke his mind it generally rocked everyone’s world. His words were a great mix of kids speaking what everyone is thinking and his autism letting him say exactly what was on his mind without his emotions becoming involved. Elle’s connection with Harrison as well as Harrison giving his father a reason to live was an integral part of why I liked this novel as much as I did. The connection between the three of them felt real.
As far as the romance, I totally bought into the relationship between Elle and Flint. It’s rare when I read a contemporary romance and I don’t get antsy or irritated while waiting for the story to reach it’s conclusion. I was immersed in this novel and incredibly patient with these characters letting the story build up in what felt like a natural ending with all the I’s dotted and the T’s crossed. Look the Part is an apt title because not only did Flint look the part of Elle’s man and Harrison’s father, but this novel Looked the Part of a rock solid romance. I have never read a novel by Jewel E. Ann, but am excited to discover her and can’t wait to read her whole library!
I loved this book and I loved these characters. Flint and Ellen were made for each other as well as Harrison.
I absolutely adored this book!! Jewel has become one of my favourite authors. I’ve never picked up a book of hers I didn’t love. Highly recommend this one!
I absolutely adored this book. I loved the contrast between Flint (a lawyer) and Ellen (a music therapist). Flint is a single dad with a pre-teen child on the autism spectrum. The element of bringing a child into the mix that is on the spectrum added a complex personality interactions between the characters that was spot on. The subtle wittiness of Flint will make you laugh and his inability to forgive his mistakes in the past will tug at your heart. Ellen is a free spirit that is thrown into this mix because she rents office space from Flint. The developing relationship between those 3 characters is very well developed. I loved the feels that it gave me while reading the book. I was able to empathize with each character. You will enjoy this story. It is definitely an original. Good Job Jewel E. Ann.
