Fantastic characters. Great story. A book you’ll have trouble putting down. Highly recommend.
For whatever reason, I’ve never been able to finish a D.D. Warren audiobook. Now I see that I should have read the actual books. Look For Me is incredible. I give it 5 stars, and I’m not even finished. The book is told from two perspectives: Detective D.D. Warren in the third person, and Flora in the first person. The detective is struggling to solve a grisly murder of an entire family, while stumbling through remaining a part of her own family. Flora is struggling to find a missing teenager from the murdered family, while finding her way in the real world as the survivor of over a year in captivity at the hands of a maniac. Flora is blunt in words, sharp in thought. I love her. this is the story of neglectful parents, abusive foster care siblings, and the dirty deeds we commit at our lowest points. I can’t wait to read every other book in this series. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this free copy in exchange for my honest review.
I love the D.D. Warren series.
A great writer!! HUGE TALENT!!
Enjoyed reading it. Have read several of this author’s books.
This story left me breathless. I’m now officially a Detective D.D. Warren and Flora Dane series addict. Can’t wait to read another book featuring these two strong, independent, complex women.
I love the first person accounts that really help you get to know the characters. It’s like you are there with them.
She is one of my best authors
Great book.
one of the writers I really love
Amazing.
Not my favorite Lisa Gardner book. I felt like it just skimmed the surface with the characters when there was a lot of potential to create interesting characters with depth. The plot was complicated, and I think the character development took a backseat to the plot. It was also repetitive. We kept hearing the same details, which made for a slower read than I’m used to with this author’s books.
What a thrill of a read! Brilliant characters and thought-provoking twists and turns. I loved every minute.
Favorite Quotes:
College had been about getting out and getting away, not because I hadn’t loved my mom or her farm or the fox kits born each spring, but because I’d been eighteen, and when you’re eighteen, clearly you can’t want what you already have. Definitely, you gotta try for whatever is behind that other door over there.
It takes a villain to make a hero. And it took a monster to make me.
My Review:
This was a brilliantly contrived thriller! Ms. Gardner’s ingenious and intriguing storylines squeezed my heart while they captivated, taunted, and prickled my curiosity. The mystery was compelling and confounding while the characters were deviously nuanced and complicated. I totally appreciate a clever kick-ass heroine/ survivor/vigilante and this story provided several. The story was heartbreakingly realistic, cunningly paced, shrewdly staged, and unpredictable with so many possible suspects with ample motivation. This was my first experience reading this author and could kick myself for noticing the previous eight books in this enticing series. I want them ALL.
Lisa Gardner has done it…again! “Look for Me” is a mystery/thriller of the first order.
Detective D.D. Warren is called to a horrific crime scene.
A family of four has been brutally gunned down. Two adults and two children. The eldest daughter, 16 year-old Roxanna (Roxy) Baez, and the two elderly, blind dogs, Rosie and Blaze, are missing.
D.D. must find the girl. Is she in danger or is she the shooter?
Helping the detective out (reluctantly, on D.D.’s part) is Flora Dane, the famous survivor of Gardner’s last novel, “Find Her”. She is now the detective’s newest CI.
Flora is an amazing and complicated character. Anyone wanting to hear her astonishing backstory should read that book. It’s incredible…as is this.
The witty, sarcastic banter between Flora and D.D. is a delight (under the circumstances) as they build a grudging respect for each other.
They each use their own resources to attempt to track Roxy down. To protect her or maybe arrest her.
Roxy’s story about her and her sister’s time in foster care is told through the pages a of a school assignment. And it is heartbreaking.
D.D. and Lola are led down a dark, twisting path filled with more shootings and more possibilities.
Suspense, cliffhanger chapters, compelling writing…all the trademarks of every wonderful Lisa Gardner novel.
D.D. Warren rocks!
Flora Dane kicks ass!
Another page turner by one of my favorite authors! Flora Dane -vigilante turned CI (Find Her) returns to help D,D. Warren solve the case.
Lisa Gardner at her best, thoroughly enjoyed this book as it was hard to put down.
I’m a big fan of Lisa Gardner’s thrillers. This one is dark, twisty, and completely absorbing. I only wish I had written it.
Very good
Keeps you
Reading to see who killed the family.
Lisa Gardner never ceases to amaze. Her characters DD Warren and Flora Dane, as different as they are, work great. This one kept me up until well into the morning hours; just had to read “one more chapter.” Looking forward to her next book.
