#1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen and Edgar Award-winning author Roy Johansen are back with Look Behind You, a novel featuring Kendra Michaels–hired gun for both the CIA and FBI. A serial killer is on the loose in San Diego with a most unusual M.O. With each kill, the perpetrator leaves behind mystifying random objects. In this confusing array of unrelated evidence, the one … unrelated evidence, the one thing that is clear is that the murders all have one characteristic in common: they all require the specific skills of Kendra Michaels, hired gun for both the CIA and FBI. Kendra, who was blind for the first twenty years of her life, gained her sight through a revolutionary surgical procedure and now uses her acute powers of observation to assist in cases all over the United States.
FBI investigators soon make a startling discovery: the left-behind objects are actually souvenirs of other unsolved serial murder cases from around the country. And the new crimes feature “holdback” characteristics never disclosed to the general public–meaning that one single killer was behind the nation’s most notorious serial murder cases and has now come to challenge and taunt Kendra.
The investigators–a “dream team” of profilers–join Kendra in the pursuit, but as the body count rises and the detectives themselves become the newest targets, Kendra must risk everything to defeat a psychopath whose terrifying plan is years in the making…

I try and steer clear of serial killer stories because many of them start to blend together. This was different and I enjoyed it (apart from the grisly details). The characters were all well defined and there even was some sexual tension throughout, which was refreshing in a book like this. I learned a lot from the lead character, specifically how many things one can deduce just by focusing on their senses. I even had a theory. I was sure I knew who the killer was, but nope! It was a surprise, even though I believe I was led there by the clever authors. Well done.
There were quite a few moments where my heart leaped to my throat. Plus quite a few twist and turns too.
Twisted. Great ending.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, I give tremendous praise to the authors Iris Johansen & Roy Johansen for creating a thrilling novel.
I just judged this book by its cover and picked it out. I had checked out the book but then not had time to read it and someone else was waiting for it, so I returned it. When I needed an audio book for long drives, I quickly picked it. So I didn’t actually READ this book, and I think it almost would’ve been better if I had. Ha. I didn’t like the sexy stuff in it. I really don’t read sex scene stuff, and this was really mild, don’t get me wrong, but ugh, playing aloud in my car? Yikes. I had no idea this was part of a series, so I didn’t know Kendra Michaels, the main character. I liked her, but yeah, this book was great, I’m sure, but just not my style. I have to say I did have NO IDEA whodunit or whatever though, so good job on that, Johansen. I think the people who really enjoy this genre would be wowed once again, I’m guessing.
Great book!
This is the first book by Iris & Roy Johansen that I have read. I did not realize that this was a book in a series, but I was able to read it as a standalone. I did wonder while I was reading it, if there were books before it. I will have to go back and read the others, since I am a little curious as to what other crimes were solved before this one.
In this story Kendra gets involved in a serial killer case. Little does she know that she is the end target to the madman. As soon as Adam finds out what is going on, he rushes back to be there for her and help her. Kendra is worried for the safety of her best friend and hires another friend Jessie to look over her. As the case becomes more complicated than any of them have ever imagined, the feds bring in a dream team of investigators to help. Can they stop the mad man in time, before he kills again? Will Adam keep Kendra safe?
reaction mrw omg shocked skeleton GIFThis book was a thrilling ride from page one. I loved it. It had me on the edge of my seat, going “Oh my God Oh my God!” on several occasions. It keeps you guessing till the end. Who is the mad man?? I loved the characters in this book. Kendra is a strong woman, who doesn’t hide in fear. Adam is a sexy man at the top of the government chain. Have not figured out his role in the FBI or goverment yet. That may be explained in the first four books, but I can tell he is in love with Kendra, even though it is not said. Then there is her blind friend Olivia, who has such strength and perception. Jessie is a bad ass investigator who rides a motorcycle. And then there is Metcalf whom has a thing for Kendra as well, but I really don’t think he is in the running.
shocked surprised jaw drop GIFThis book is really intense and I enjoyed it very much. I could see this being a movie. Iris & Roy Johansen has just moved to a favorite on my top authors list. I can’t wait to read more of their work. They write with the intent of keeping thier audience captivated. It sure worked on me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves thrillers.
As with all of the Kendra Michaels books it was soooooooooooooGOOD!!!!! Loved it!
Iris at her best
(Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read and review this book)
The new book, Look Behind You, by authors Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen delivers mystery and fast paced suspense. Once I started reading, I did not want to put the book down. I don’t post spoilers, but will have to say, I really enjoyed reading this book! Although it is the fifth of the Kendra Michaels series, but is great as a stand alone book.
Kendra Michaels is a therapist who incorporates music into her sessions as another way to reach those who are unresponsive or catatonic. She has the added benefit of being highly sensitive to details around her due to having been blind. She received her vision after a miraculous operation and still uses her refined skills of observation in everyday life and with her patients/clients.
Kendra is visited by Detectives Metcalf and Gina Carson of the FBI and asked to help with a serial murder case. She does not enjoy the cases she has worked, but owes a favor to FBI director Griffin. As the story progresses Lynch is back to protect Kendra as the search for a murderer gets priority due to the possibility this killer has not only killed three people, but for years has been committing murders in other cities with a different MO or method.
Zachery, the murderer, is extremely intelligent and decides Kendra will be his major focus for his endgame. During the course of the story you will read glimpses of his heinous acts as he carries out his murderous plans on unsuspecting people he has targeted.
The banter between Kendra and her friends, Olivia and Jessie, and then the flirtation with Lynch keep the book from being too dark. I like the personable interaction of the characters.
The ending did surprise me…that is all I will say about that…Read the Book!
Another great book from this team of writers, Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen.
