Stephanie Plum faces the toughest puzzle of her career in the twenty-fifth entry in Janet Evanovich’s #1 New York Times-bestselling series. There’s nothing like a good deli, and the Red River Deli in Trenton is one of the best. World-famous for its pastrami, cole slaw, and for its disappearing managers. Over the last month, three have vanished from the face of the earth, and the only clue in each … earth, and the only clue in each case is one shoe that’s been left behind. The police are baffled. Lula is convinced that it’s a case of alien abduction. Whatever it is, they’d better figure out what’s going on before they lose their new manager, Ms. Stephanie Plum.

I enjoyed reading this book
After a few disappointments I was so ready to give up on the Stephanie Plum books and then I got my hands on Hardcore Twenty-Four which I thoroughly enjoyed. This lead me to Look Alive Twenty-Five and….YES!!! … it is another winner. I had a lot of fun with the story and of course it too is over the top but still not that much over the top that it would be so ridiculous that it would put me off.
I will stick with this series and hope for some more crazy fun to come.
This series is both addictive and annoying. The annoying didn’t start until a number of books into the series and it is because of a relationship that just can’t seem to get resolved. I’m sure that if the situation is resolved, then the series will end – but maybe it is time. Then, there is the perpetual hamster who should be well beyond his life expectancy by now. Speaking of that relationship issue – to me, personally – it doesn’t appear that there is any real love there on any side. The books are always zany and funny and you just can’t help but chuckle at the antics.
I’ve rated this story 3.5 rounded up to 4 mainly because Stephanie didn’t get herself into quite as many pickles as she normally does and not a single car exploded. The appearance of Wulf from the Lizzy and Diesel series didn’t add anything to the story either and he’s just always annoying.
Stephanie Plum is an inept bail enforcement agent for her cousin Vinny – who is married to the daughter of a big-time mobster – Harry the Hammer. Connie is the only competent one at the agency. Stephanie’s assistant is Lula, a former ‘ho who still dresses like one. Add Morelli, Stephanie’s boyfriend who is a cop and Ranger, the ultra-sexy owner of Rangeman security (who also wants to be Stephanie’s boyfriend) and you have quite an interesting mix of personalities.
Vinny and his father-in-law have taken over a deli that was forfeited when the owner jumped bail and disappeared. Now, the managers keep disappearing and leaving behind nothing except one shoe. Vinny has Stephanie and Lula take over running the deli in addition to her bail enforcement duties. Lula is convinced that aliens are taking the managers and she is convinced that Stephanie is next.
Ranger and Morelli take turns protecting Stephanie and the antics are, as always, very amusing. Lula fancies herself the queen of sandwich making at the deli and creates something new for each order – no matter what the patron requested. Ranger even gets into the sandwich making. All of this is going on while they are trying to figure out what happened to the previous managers.
Will Stephanie and Lula still be working at the deli when the next book is released? Can’t wait to see.

“I requested and received this e-book at no cost to me and volunteered to read it; my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.”
Another hilariously wonderful Stephanie Plum book!
Love this series.
A great read, can’t wait for the next one in this series
A guilty-pleasure book. Simply fun to read about Stephanie Plum’s latest adventures as an inept bond-skip agent
You never know what trouble Stephanie will get in next and when Ranger will need to help out. Always an easy read and entertaining.
I enjoy every book Evanovich writes. The stories are usually far fetched, but I am so entertained I don’t care that some things could never happen in real life the way they do in the book.
More fun with Stephanie and gang.
Love this series and this book was great. Wulf even made an appearance as a sort of good guy. Deli managers start to disappear and leave one shoe was the only thing left behind. Stephanie is put in place as the deli manager to find out what was happening to the managers.
I love this author. the book is funny and tells a mystery also. don’t miss this book
Love when a new Stephanie Plum book comes out!! Stephanie and Lula, love the antics these two have together not to mention the Morelli and Ranger situation. Pretty quiet on the home front with Grandma Mazur and the clan but seeing how the book ended, I’m sure the next book we will see more of them. Over all I enjoyed this book so much, we always meet the most unusual characters in every book!!!
Another great addition to the series.
Well I want to start off by saying I love this series. Always a five star with me, except this time it is slipping. I feel like this book is missing some life to it. Yes, Lula is still a ho at heart. Yes, Morelli is still the hot cop. Yes, Ranger is the lover we all dream about. And Yes!! Stephanie still gets into the most ridiculous situations. But there was no gram and her crazy self or much of the plum family. I miss them in this book.
Yes this one ends in a cliff hanger, so maybe there is new life for the series after all. I really hope so. I love the characters of this series and I excitedly await each novel, but I almost feel as if this series is ready to be wrapped up in a big bow. It is time for some serious decisions and endings. I could see a couple more books to tie up the ending, but I think it is time to put our loving characters to rest.
Overall the book has it’s usual humor that we have all come to love with Steph and the gang. It is fun and energetic, but missing that zing it normally carries. Here’s hoping that the next novel is a blow out. Not ready to give up on them just yet. Patiently awaiting the next Steph disaster.
Look Alive Twenty Five is enjoyable entertainment. Stephanie continues to bumble around attracting trouble at every turn. Lulu was a big star of this story. She is a large character and took over quite a bit. I definitely wish there were more “Babe” moments from Ranger!
Listening to most of this book on audiobook, I can tell you that is the way to go! An awesome listen!
-4 Stars-
I have read everyone of these books by Evanovitch. She’s terrific. Love these char acters.
I think I am getting tired of the stories all being the same. It is still an entertaining book though.
I love all these books but they are not cheap to buy. I have read all 25 books and i would read them again. Stephanie Plum gets into so much trouble and her side kick Luluis hysterical. I want to read more but i cannot until the price goes down.
Janet Evanovich delivers every single time. Witty, funny, completely absorbing!
