It’s been years since I picked up a Dick Francis book. I always enjoyed them. It was a pleasure to reconnect with someone who can really tell a story.
One of my favorites from Dick Francis. As usual, he provides some insight into an interesting subject outside of the racing back drop. In this case it was extreme survival skills. I really enjoyed how the main character is forced to use his knowledge about “roughing it in the wilderness” to survive against a human adversary. Classic Dick Francis with a sort of “Most Dangerous Game” undertone. Loved it!
I love Dick Francis! His stories are original and so well written. He was my Dad’s favorite writer and now as I’ve begun reading his books I understand why. This one especially offers a surprise ending. Well worth the read.
I enjoyed reading this book. The characters were well developed, and the plot kept me on the edge of my seat!
I read alot of his books. Just enough suspense to keep interested but able to put down and sleep. Clean. No bad swear words. I do NOT like any of the books written with the son Alex, due to foul language.
One of Francis’ best novels; this one has a personal connection for me and will always remain a favorite.
Duck Frances is an excellent author. From first page to last. Very highly recommended.
Dick Francis wrote A LOT of books, this is a one of the good ones.
Quick read, sympathetic characters
Dick Francis is one of my favorite authors, and his books are always page-turners…I lose a lot of sleep reading the dang things. always worth the money.
You just can’t beat a Dick Francis mystery. He so effortlessly hooks you into his characters and the plots move quickly and in interesting directions. Its a really rare talent that can use so few words to say so much. I’ve read every book probably 4-5 times over the years and it was a sad day when he died. (P.S. don’t bother reading any written with/by his son. Heavy handed, too much descriptive or researched detail. Sorry about that.)
Dick Francis has always been a great companion.
When the world is a bit too bleak and lacking in heroes, I pick up a Dick Francis mystery. His main character, and despite the varied settings, names, and expertise areas, all his main characters are the same honorable heroic human being who lives a life of reliable, humble goodness who always serves as an inspiration and role model. It is my sincere hope that all of them reflect the man the author was.
This book has great characters, an interesting plot, and a marvelous usage of imagery. I really enjoyed this book from start to finish.
I always like Dick Francis novels. This was especially entertaining. Excellent information about survival and horse training and racing . Surprise ending and suspense. Would recommend the book of for anyone.
Dick Francis, in my opinion is one of the best writers ever. Love his stories!
Dick Francis at his best. I have always enjoyed how he weaves the English horse world into his stories and this is a good example. He takes a travel adventure writer, who has just written his first work of fiction and dropped him into the world of horses. An easy enjoyable read that at the end kept me up late so I could finish.
I enjoy books with horse themes, and this is a mystery aimed at adults.
I love Dick Francis!
Dick Francis books are always great writing and provide a different snapshot for horse racing or anyone who loves horses.
