I liked the whole series!
I like fictional novels based on some facts.
Liked all the the Longshot stories and will watch for more of them
I like most anything in the Historical Fiction Genre
Very interesting and I learned quite a lot. I’m from Missouri and I enjoyed the read
I enjoyed it. A little ensight into the civil war tragedy.
I enjoyed the story and a glimpse into the past. But there were a few times when the story line skipped ahead when i would have enjoyed a little more about what was happening then. For instance, when the 2 girls had to accept the “visitor” . How did the week go? Story just skipped over it. All in all it was a good story. Now I am curious about Pinkerton history. More to learn on my part.
I enjoyed this book, because it spoke of towns, cities, and places I was totally familiar with. I grew up in the Midwest and could actually visualize each of the areas in the story. Good story for a journey through the Midwest.
This book is based on the author’s family. It’s about Rob Finnagan’s (Longshot)journey during the Civil War. This book kept me interested. It has a lot of historical information in it.
Great combination of “period piece” and “detective story”… believable plot …good character development…overall an interesting, engaging read
Good historical story
I liked the story and characters so much I read the sequels!!
Very enjoyable book
A nice read that keeps the pages turning
First in a series, looking forward to continuing the saga of Rob Finn.
Good historical fiction of Civil War. Seemed quite realistic. Enjoyed the character development.
The book is wonderful, historical fiction apparently based upon the life of a real person. The author lets you know the main character and some interesting side persons. Down side it ends abruptly.
I suspect that there is a lot of fact in this book. This sheds light on the spying and directed assassinations during the civil war that is surprisingly even-handed. The main characters are Alan Pinkerton and Rob Finn, also known as ” Longshot” for his legendary shooting ability.
Rob Finn endures tragic losses and questions his own role in killing, ultimately questioning which side is right.
There is insight into a rather disturbing side of Abe Lincoln that I personally was unaware of.
I look forward to reading more by this author because of his ambitious research and historical connection to the Finn character.
While this is a very slow moving novel, I enjoyed it. It gave insight into the heart and mind of a sharp shooter who struggled with being an assassin. The movement back and forth during the Civil War and his family AND the fledgling Pinkerton Detective Agency that later developed was really interesting. There is a tad of romance, a dose of sorrow which was definitely present during that conflict and some great humor, too. I’ll definitely be continuing with the next book of the series.
I enjoyed this book. I am going to read the series.
