Not many authors write about this period in our history. I found it to be a riveting read with several strong characters. Enjoyed.
Good historical fiction
Not bad for a Western, but the dialog is contrived and tiring. The plot is too
obviously sentimental. The good guys are too good.
Way, way, way to much figure, figure going on with each of the Charecters , ie, what to do, What now, but if… and on and on, Very little action.
I had a hard time keeping the plot line. While the historical side was very interesting, the story itself seemed very fragmented and tortuous to follow. I think that others who were more acquainted with the author’s style would be able to appreciate this book more. It’s more than a western, for sure…
The book was placed in Missouri and Robert Finn, the main character traveled on horseback in and around the Sikeston area. I lived in Sikeston for many years and road my horse along the ridge that the Civil War soldiers traveled. I enjoyed reading the history from Robert Finn’s point of view. Robert Finn is a noble and honorable man caught up in the war he was assigned to fight. I enjoyed the book and went on to read book two of the series and enjoyed it as well.
Historical
So poorly written I quit after reading about a hundred pages.
