USA TODAY bestseller from the author of The Mountain Between Us, now a major motion picture! “No matter where you go, no matter whether you succeed or fail, stand or fall, no gone is too far gone. You can always come home.” At the age of eighteen, musician and songwriter Cooper O’Connor took everything his father held dear and drove 1,200 miles from home to Nashville, his life riding on a … riding on a six-string guitar and the bold wager that he had talent. But his wager soon proved foolish.
Five years after losing everything, he falls in love with Daley Cross, an angelic voice in need of a song. But just as he realizes his love for Daley, Cooper faces a tragedy that threatens his life as well as his career. With nowhere else to go, he returns home to the remote Colorado mountains, searching for answers about his father and his faith.
When Daley shows up on his street corner twenty years later, he wonders if it’s too late to tell her the truth about his past–and if he is ready to face it himself.
A radical retelling of the prodigal son story, Long Way Gone takes us from tent revivals to the Ryman Auditorium to the tender relationship between a broken man and the father who never stopped calling him home.

The book Long Way Home was and is an excellent read. A young man has to find his own way in life and within himself. I recommend the book and this author for those who like Christian well written fiction.
My new favorite author! If you are tired of romantic fluff, you may love this book. Cooper is a very talented young musician, who has been mentored by his wise, evangelist father. But at age eighteen, he wants to test his skills in Nashville, steals from and publicly insults his father, and leaves home.. a modern day Prodigal. Martin skillfully weaves a story with a love of music, a clean romance with characters that are flawed but lovable, and the slow revealing of the mystery of what happened and how it will end.
One of my favorite authors.
Love all the work that this man puts out!!!
It’s easy to see why this book won the 2017 Book of the Year. I LOVED this book. Deep, moving, and worth the journey. Brought me to tears. This one is a must-read!
The best story of a prodigal son I have ever read.
Another good book by one of my favorite inspirational authors. Read it soon if you haven’t already!
Charles Martin Is a wonderful storyteller!! This book is definitely at the top of my list of favorites.
The theme of this book can apply to all of us. Teaches a great lesson.
I received this book for an honest review from The Fiction Guild. It was a wonderful story written about the Prodigal Son, but with a twist of it being about what he did and how things ended up in his life. With all the twist and turns, he didn’t get a chance to thank his father and make amends before he father died but he found his belief in God helped him in some of the worse times in his life. And found out his father really did love him and forgave him before he died. This a wonderful read and take the time to take the story into your heart.
Loved the character development, the message of the story. I got really involved with them as real people. I look forward to more by this author.
I listened to this book and feel that the narrator truly brought this story to life. I enjoyed how music was the backbone to the story that brought everything together. An emotional read for your next cabin getaway!
I’ve been reading a lot of his books and there’s not one I haven’t Liked! I’ve read all the ones my library has but they’re missing some so I’m going to put in a request for the ones they don’t have!
Anyone who loves music NEEDS to read this book. Martin brings you inside the music in a way that leaves you wishing you could just close your eyes and hear the real thing. Either that or you’ll want to run out to the nearest street corner in search of some as-yet-undiscovered busker who just may hold the key to the orgasmic, unequalled beauty that only a guitar loved just right can deliver.
