Introducing a remarkable new character from #1 New York Times bestselling writer David Baldacci: Atlee Pine, an FBI agent with special skills assigned to the remote wilds of the southwestern United States who must confront a new threat . . . and an old nightmare.Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Catch a tiger by its toe. It’s seared into Atlee Pine’s memory: the kidnapper’s chilling rhyme as he chose … chilling rhyme as he chose between six-year-old Atlee and her twin sister, Mercy. Mercy was taken. Atlee was spared.
She never saw Mercy again.
Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee Pine works for the FBI. She’s the lone agent assigned to the Shattered Rock, Arizona resident agency, which is responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon.
So when one of the Grand Canyon’s mules is found stabbed to death at the bottom of the canyon-and its rider missing-Pine is called in to investigate. It soon seems clear the lost tourist had something more clandestine than sightseeing in mind. But just as Pine begins to put together clues pointing to a terrifying plot, she’s abruptly called off the case.
If she disobeys direct orders by continuing to search for the missing man, it will mean the end of her career. But unless Pine keeps working the case and discovers the truth, it could spell the very end of democracy in America as we know it…

A decent read but Not the high powered writing I’ve come to expect from baldacci.
Not one of the authors best but still entertaining
David Baldacci’s Attlee Pine is her own woman and a force to be reckoned with in her debut With intriguing support characters and story settings. Not to be missed
Everything
One of Baldacci’s best books by fat
Great characters, fun to read and entertaining. I am always waiting for the next book to be released.
Good read, but once again, FBI put on pedestal they do not deserve. Her powers are a little too far fetched for me as a retired State Trooper.
This is the worst Baldacci book ever. I normally love his stories but this one was off all the way. Even the title is misleading.
Good book, but not what I thought it would be.
I love all of his books
It was not one of my favorites of Baldacci book. I do look forward to reading more about the main character. I think that once I get to know her better, she will be more enjoyable as a main character.
Faithful follower of Baldacci….. never disappoints.
Love reading everything that David Baldacci writes. His characters are well developed and he keeps my attention from page one.
Had little to nothing to do with sister, Mercy!
David was at the top of his game with this book
Excellent insight about the Grand Canyon
Love, love this author. Will follow these characters!!
This was an incredibly well written novel with a main character that, although flawed, needs to have many more books written about her adventures. It will, however, be difficult to even match the intensity of this action packed thriller.
Most of his other books are better
Loved this new character and as usual, David Baldacci never disappoints. Have loved all books written by him.
