Introducing a remarkable new character from #1 New York Times bestselling writer David Baldacci: Atlee Pine, an FBI agent with special skills assigned to the remote wilds of the southwestern United States who must confront a new threat . . . and an old nightmare.Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Catch a tiger by its toe. It’s seared into Atlee Pine’s memory: the kidnapper’s chilling rhyme as he chose … chilling rhyme as he chose between six-year-old Atlee and her twin sister, Mercy. Mercy was taken. Atlee was spared.
She never saw Mercy again.
Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee Pine works for the FBI. She’s the lone agent assigned to the Shattered Rock, Arizona resident agency, which is responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon.
So when one of the Grand Canyon’s mules is found stabbed to death at the bottom of the canyon-and its rider missing-Pine is called in to investigate. It soon seems clear the lost tourist had something more clandestine than sightseeing in mind. But just as Pine begins to put together clues pointing to a terrifying plot, she’s abruptly called off the case.
If she disobeys direct orders by continuing to search for the missing man, it will mean the end of her career. But unless Pine keeps working the case and discovers the truth, it could spell the very end of democracy in America as we know it…

David Baldacci is the king of suspense thrillers. He has a way of weaving a storyline that fits perfectly in what is going on in the world today. He really gets you thinking. I love this new character, Atlee Pine. She’s a flawed person, due to her past, but becomes an FBI agent because she wants to do what’s right for her country and the people she’s supposed to protect. I couldn’t put the book down. It had me wondering what was going to happen next. And what a terrific ending. Obviously there’s going to be another book and I can’t wait.
A dead mule at the bottom of the Grand Canyon; a missing brother, Korean assassins; a nuclear bomb that could destroy a good part of the world, or at least the United States? Best of all, a new character from David Baldacci. She’s good, much more stubborn and strong than the dead mule was when he was alive and interesting – her nam is Atlee Pine and she doesn’t act like an FBI agent but is.
Baldacci scores another home run with Long Road To Mercy. This book is a fast paced page turner that won’t disappoint the reader. Another best seller!
It’s only been a few days since I read it, but I’ve forgotten it. I remember thinking it was disturbing but that’s all. The best part was – it’s an easy read.
This was my first David Baldacci book. I had heard so many positive comments about this author I think I set my expectations too high. Long Road to Mercy is a very hood book. Spoiler alert… I was disappointed that the original plot line was as derailed after just a couple of chapters and never resolved. After thinking about it, I understand this was Me Baldacci’s way of character building. But, I was so invested in the original plot line I kept waiting to get back to that and found myself skimming through many paragraphs trying to get back to that part of the story. I haven’t given up on David Baldacci though. I did enjoy the story and will try the nwxt one in this series. Hopefully he’ll wrap it up and I can try another Baldacci series.
Typical David Baldacci book. Well written and keeps your interest.

I enjoyed getting to know the main characters in this story. It was a fun, fast-paced listen!

Ms. Pine is a flawed but fasinating FBI agent. another great book by David B
I love David Baldacci books, but Atlee Pine is my least favorite of his main characters.
Attlee Pine is one of Baldacci’s best characters and he is one of our best storytellers. This is a fun read.
