LONG ROAD TO ABILENE, is a classic hero’s journey, a western adventure that exemplifies the struggles, the defeats, and the victories that personify the history of the American West. After surviving the bloody battle of Franklin and the hell of a Yankee prison camp, Cade McCall comes home to the woman he loves only to find that she, believing him dead, has married his brother. With nothing left … left to keep him in Tennessee, Cade journeys to New Orleans where an encounter with a beautiful woman leads to being shanghaied for an unexpected adventure at sea. Returning to Texas, he signs on to drive a herd of cattle to Abilene, where he is drawn into a classic showdown of good versus evil, and a surprising reunion with an old enemy.

A really good read with several unusual twists.
Some good vs. evil plot line which has some parts that are anticipated but appropriately drawn out with detail. Interesting characters and easy to believe.
This book captures the essence of aspects of the civil war and its aftermath. The adventures of Cade McCall were presented in a manner which easily allowed the reader to place himself in Cade’s shoes. The Long Road to Abilene is an excellent read.
The story line was a little to slow for me.
Enjoyed it very much! Will read it again.
Again another I would like to see more of.
Very good read.
Good look at a part of our American history.
Great western.
I enjoyed reading this book.
Could not put it down, looking for another book by the author.
Very interesting western. Wish it had been longer.
This book took me on an adventure that I didn’t see coming. It was fun to read, and while some of the things that happen to the main character seem a little over the top, that’s what fiction is all about…a story that, at times, can be larger than life.
Ended too soon.
The experiences and situations the hero found himself in were very well done, hard to fathom that they all could happen to one person.
Most interesting character and far from predictable (mostly). Unfortunately, this is only the first half of the story (I think, may be more); nonetheless, quite enjoyable.
This book gives you insights into the old West. Very enjoyable. Good characterizations, excellent villians. I liked it a lot and will likely read more of these.
Loved the series. Hope there is more.
I hope to read the next book. It was a great read and I learned about the war and being Shanghai. Very interesting book. thanks
Very entertaining with a differ view of the west
