In the first of a thrilling new series, FBI Special Agent Meg Jennings and Hawk, her loyal search-and-rescue Labrador, must race against time as they zero in on one of the deadliest killers in the country . . . Meg and Hawk are part of the FBI’s elite K-9 unit. Hawk can sniff out bodies anywhere—living or dead. When a bomb rips apart a government building in Washington D.C., it takes all of the … D.C., it takes all of the team’s extensive search-and-rescue training to locate and save the workers and visitors buried beneath the rubble.
But even as the duo are hailed as heroes, a bomber remains at large, striking terror in a widening spiral of unpredictability. As more bombs are detonated and the body count escalates, Meg and Hawk are assigned to a task force dedicated to stopping the unseen killer. It will come down to a battle of wits and survival skills between Meg, Hawk, and the bomber they’re tracking to rescue a nation from the brink of chaos.
“Tense and exciting, Sara Driscoll has created a new power couple, Meg and her FBI K-9, Hawk.”

Great start to a new series! I am a dog lover with two rescued pitties and I loved all the dogs in this book and the attitude of the author towards them. That said, great thriller/suspense plot, interesting forensics and interesting K-9 terminology and training. I would have liked a little more depth in the human characters, but there were a lot of introductions to be made in this first book and hopefully the next book in the series will have more. Looking forward to the next book in this series!
Lone Wolf by Sara Driscoll: Rescue dogs are featured in this suspenseful terrorism thriller. You get all the action & spy suspense while learning about the training of the dogs. Recommended read.
What a great read this is! I have been interested in reading about K-9 partners as well as search and rescue teams with dogs for quite some time, but this one is the most intense I’ve held my breath through so far. The beginning of the novel has us chasing after Meg, who is racing behind her beautiful black lab, Hawk, who is scenting out a rapist. We see, after many hair-raising minutes, positive results.
Barely have Hawk and his FBI handler Meg had a chance to relax but they are called out on another emergency. This one is heinous, an explosion at the Department of Agriculture complex in DC, involving middle school children touring the building. Part of the building collapsed, much of it on fire, with few other details. Hawk diligently tracks for survivors before they seek those who did not survive the blast and subsequent fire. This is only the first in a series of bombings without rhyme or reason for why the next would be chosen. The ego and rage of the bomber bwho didn’t get the attention he or she felt deserved led the person to contact McCord, a journalist at a DC paper, to rant and rave. In the meantime, Meg, a firefighter she met at the first bombing, and McCord are ready to use their respective resources to find the killer.
This well-written novel shows how very human the first responders are, including those who go into ruins to find the missing. The gamut of emotions is faced by the characters, emotions those outside of the profession can only imagine. The bond between a K-9 and its human partner is incredibly close, often stronger than the bond when both partners are human. The characters in this novel represent some of the finest of traits of such partners.
There are plot twists that, even though we see the mind of the killer, we don’t see coming. To me, it is interesting to see the combination of investigative techniques and those who provide search and rescue to figure out who the real bomber is. The story is intense and suspenseful. I thought I knew how it would end, but I couldn’t have foreseen just how much more stunning the story would get. I very highly recommend Lone Wolf; I am so looking forward to the next-in series!
Great for dog lovers
This one kind of tripped through my newsfeed because the e-book version was on sale, but on closer look it turned out to be a Prime Reading offer (read: free!). Dogs, and a police procedural all wrapped up at a bargain price.
I was taken in immediately, and by 20%, I was telling dog-loving friends to check it out. Heck, the opening scene on the Monocacy River takes place about 30 minutes from my home.
Excellent story with lots of suspense, but the geography was off. At the end: Harrionsburg, VA is mentioned as the location of a local veterinary hospital. Harrisonburg is nowhere near Moorefield. Hagerstown or Cumberland would have been better choices. When the FBI arrest their first suspect, they tell him that in addition to DC, the state of Virginia wants him for 48 murders. Those murders — the second bombing — took place in Maryland, not VA. Minus one star for the inaccuracies.
I’m definitely going to put book #2 in the series on my TBR list.
This is a crime mystery involving FBI dogs. I found it very interesting, informative and a fast read.
4 stars. Sara Driscoll’s first book in her K-9 series ticks all the boxes: well-written, believable plot, relatable characters, and best of all, it centers on a gorgeous, lovable, smart black lab who lives solely to search for, find, and save people. I will definitely read the next book in this series.
Lone Wolf is about an FBI agent named Meg who is part of the Canine Search and Rescue team . her Black Labrador named Hawk along with the other K-9 teams are in search of a serial bomber who has killed many people. You won’t want to put this book down as it reaches the exciting climax.
It took some time to get invested in it, but really interesting premise and good writing.
I have enjoyed this series of books. Good character development and interesting history lessons.
Such a good book. Read all her books I’ve enjoyed all that I’ve read.
I like the way Sara Driscoll writes. Her storylines are good and her characters are well developed. This story is the first of her FBI K-9 series and I like this series of hers the best of all.
I don’t think you will go wrong with starting this series, just remember it gets better as it goes along and all her stores are stand-alone.
I am so thankful I found this series. I love books about FBI and these are exceptional

Lone Wolf (An F.B.I. K-9 Novel Book 1)

5 out of 5 stars
The story Lone Wolf (An F.B.I. K-9 Novel Book 1) by Sara Driscoll is a book that I loved reading. It is suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. It is a page-turning thriller that I am glad that I read. I absolutely loved reading about Meg and Hawk. They are part of the FBI’s elite K-9 unit. There is a bond between them and I enjoyed that the book explained some of the terminology used by the unit and that the K-9’s respond to. When a bomb is detonated at a government building Meg and Hawk are sent in to help rescue the living and locate the deceased. This is a stressful job and can get emotionally overwhelming. I could tell that having their K-9, their best friend, there with them helped those on this team cope. Who planted the bomb? That is what a task force has been set up to find out and this duo is part of it. Is the bomber going to strike again? If so what or who would his next target be? Will the bomber be caught, or will the reign of terror and chaos continue? Read this book to find out. I love when an author adds in animals to a story such as Hawk. There are parts of this story that are heartbreaking and others that are heartwarming. I also enjoyed reading about the additional characters that are introduced. Some are part of the K-9 unit that Meg and Hawk are part of and others help these two in their investigation. It is always interesting to read about the part these additional characters played in the book and also how they interacted with Meg and Hawk. This is a story that I just couldn’t put down for very long as I just had to know how it ended. This is a thrilling novel that I would highly recommend reading.
