When I first saw the sweet cover and read the synopsis for Lone Star Ranger I knew I wanted to read this novel ASAP. Boy, am I glad I did. This novel is fun! I found the plot to be stellar — fast-paced and highly engaging. I was turning pages so quickly I would have gotten papercuts if I had read a paperback copy. The characters are darling and quite endearing. And I love the example both Rett and Elizabeth illustrate in regards to a unique and strong prayer relationship with God. All in all, Lone Star Ranger by Renae Brumbaugh Green is a homerun read that I highly recommend. If you are a fan of sweet, clean Westerns then this book is definitely for you!
Lone Star Ranger contains a lot of action right from the get-go. There’s mistaken identity, a murderer on the loose, and a cross-state chase. And, there is a fun romance borne out of misunderstanding, frustration, and hijinks. There is a lot in this little story that would make anyone feel off-kilter and as if the world is nothing but chaos. What I enjoyed the most about this sweet story is that Rett and Elizabeth don’t lose hope when things get crazy, instead, they go to God. Both characters have a unique relationship with God that feels genuine and realistic. I love how both talk to God as if He were their closest Friend and Confidant. I found their honest, heartfelt prayers to be my favorite moments in this story. Rett and Elizabeth are great examples of how to be in relationship with God; and, while there is a ton of engaging action throughout this story, this illustration of relationship with God is what I loved the most.
Lone Star Ranger by Renae Brumbaugh Green is a super fun read that I enjoyed greatly. I highly recommend this story, and very much look forward to future novels in this series.
I received a review copy of this novel in eBook form from the author via Celebrate Lit. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This was the first book I had ever read from author Renae Brumbaugh. At first I wasn’t sure I would enjoy this book as I expected it to be full of cliche characters and predictable plot. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out-of-the-ordinary female characters with atypical careers and interests.
The plot was intriguing as well. Elizabeth’s brother Evan is mistaken for a notorious criminal, arrested, & will soon hang if Elizabeth cannot prove his identity. The local ranger who arrested Evan is determined that Elizabeth is lying, but her sincerity and discrepancies about Evan himself begin chipping away at his resolve. With the town preparing for the hanging and time slipping away, what should he do?
This novel was a quick read and well-suited for young adult/teen readers.
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.*
Sit back and travel to Houston, Texas in 1877 where the town is growing and danger is just around the corner. I loved the setting since I live in Houston and it was nice to read about what it was like in the 1800’s . The story takes place where a criminal in on the loose killing people and stirring up fear. The picture they had of him must have been a rough sketch of the killer who resembles others.
Elizabeth and her brother have traveled around the countryside deciding where they want to live. They are grieving over the loss of their father and I liked that they had a close bond with each other. Through a series of events Elizabeth’s brother is mistaken for the man in the sketch and hauled off to jail. Elizabeth must now try to save her brother before he faces death.
The banter between Texas Ranger Rett Smith and Elizabeth is quite entertaining. It won’t be easy for Rett to keep Elizabeth safe as they go after the real killer. Even though I knew what was going to happen, it was still an enjoyable read. It reminded me of the western shows my dad would watch every Saturday. It always entailed the bad guy who causes chaos wherever he went. There is a nice bit of adventure and danger in the story to keep readers entertained. There is a little faith element in the story which shows how the characters depend on God to keep them safe, Overall it was a nice clean read with a happy ending. I look forward to the next book in the series.
