“A TOUR DE FORCE . . . London tracks the history of the English capital from the days of the Celts until the present time. . . . Breathtaking.”—The Orlando Sentinel A master of epic historical fiction, Edward Rutherford gives us a sweeping novel of London, a glorious pageant spanning two thousand years. He brings this vibrant city’s long and noble history alive through his saga of ever-shifting … of ever-shifting fortunes, fates, and intrigues of a half-dozen families, from the age of Julius Caesar to the twentieth century. Generation after generation, these families embody the passion, struggle, wealth, and verve of the greatest city in the Old World.
Praise for London
“Remarkable . . . The invasion by Julius Caesar’s legions in 54 B.C. . . . The rise of chivalry and the Crusades . . . The building of the Globe theatre . . . and the coming of the Industrial Revolution. . . . What a delightful way to get the feel of London and of English history. . . . We witness first-hand the lust of Henry VIII. We overhear Geoffrey Chaucer deciding to write The Canterbury Tales. . . . Each episode is a punchy tale made up of bite-size chunks ending in tiny cliffhangers.”—The New York Times
“Hold-your-breath suspense, buccaneering adventure, and passionate tales of love and war.”—The Times (London)
“Fascinating . . . A sprawling epic.”—San Francisco Chronicle

I great read on the history of a great city.
I loved it. It’s written in the style of James Michener, telling the entire history of London. At over 1100 pages, it’s not for the faint of heart, but I learned so much about London. Can’t wait to visit London again.
I really wanted to like this book, but it was just flat. Did not finish.
Great lessons in history of London intertwined with several character stories in an ancestral progression. Also wrote SARUM which I think is even better.
Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres, and this book is an excellent example of it. Covering London from 54B.C. to World War II, Rutherfurd kept me interested as he followed generations of families. 1124 pages in paperback, yet I wanted more!
What a wonderfully entertaining way to learn the history of London. Next, I’ll try his book on New York.
Fab writer of history.
Have read most of his books, both paperback and digital.
Re-reading a couple.
Amazing that these huge books take up such little space in my Kindle library.
I love the whole series of these books. London is a history of the long ago beginning of the city as well as England . There is so much interesting information as well as the stories of the people that lived that history.
Wonderful , well written and a very good way to learn some history via fiction.
Excellent read
Excellent
Historical fiction is my favorite. This author is one of the best writers in the field. London May be one of the best. Puts the reader in the City.
I don’t ever listen to 1,100 page books on Audible but I broke with tradition by listening to and thoroughly enjoying “London,” a vast, flowing, historical fiction by Edward Rutherfurd. He gives the reader “a” history of London (not the definitive history), ranging from 54 B.C.E. to 1990s. The novel begins on the banks of the Thames with …
I Like most of E.Rutherford’s historical fiction. Educational in an entertaining style, great personalities, more historically accurate than Ken Follet.
I enjoyed reading about the history of London through the diverse fictional characters. I found myself researching certain time periods and historical figures as I read through the book.
London is a history of the city down through the centuries through the eyes of people who lived there. It is a novel. It is a great read.
Interesting to follow this one city throughout history
Fascinating book.
all of this author’s books are well worth the time and I would recommend them to anyone liking historical settings
Great history. The characters and their families are followed through the centuries. Very long but a page turner.
