Now available as a boxed set: Books 1 – 3 of the London Carter Mystery Series by BJ BourgJAMES 516 (2016 EPIC eBook Award Winner for Best Mystery)Could a deep and dark secret be behind the sniper-style killing of a sheriff’s office captain, or is it simply the work of a madman with a rifle? Whatever the case, the killer is taunting the cops with a mysterious message, and Police Sniper London … Sniper London Carter is determined to decipher the message and capture the murderer.
Will London solve the mystery in time, or will more officers die before he can bring the killer to justice?
PROVING GROUNDS
When the sniper-style murder of an alligator poacher puts two rival families on edge, Police Sniper London Carter and Detective Sergeant Dawn Luke join forces to solve the case. But they’ll have their work cut out for them as the two families recruit small armies to fight each other and the FBI becomes involved in the case.
It doesn’t take London long to realize they’re dealing with a professional killer, but the motive for the murder is far from clear. Will he and Dawn solve the case before it’s too late, or will the swamps of Louisiana run red with the blood of the rival families and the cops who are trying to stop them?
SILENT TRIGGER
Days after Police Sniper London Carter resolves a hostage situation at a local car dealership, Detective Sergeant Dawn Luke calls upon him to assist her with a mysterious death investigation. The cause of death is not obvious, but the body is found in a peculiar position and the individual is connected to the recent hostage situation, so something seems amiss.
London and Dawn end up facing numerous roadblocks in their quest for the truth–including an unidentified body, uncooperative witnesses, and a killer tornado–and through it all they start to develop feelings for each other. But the case is growing complicated and dangerous, and if they’re not careful, one of them could end up like their victim…dead and naked on a cold morgue slab.

Fantastic series. Finished the 3rd book and immediately started the next 4-6 series. Wish there were more-hope the author continues the series.
I found these books entertaining and captivating. I always looked forward to another opportunity to leave my current space and get to work with the characters in the book. You feel like you are a part of the action.
I wasn’t sure I would enjoy a mystery where the protagonist was a sniper. I was also apprehensive that there would be too much blood and gore. But neither was problematic. Bourg gives his London Carter character a lot of depth despite him being quite a quiet guy. He allows him to be imperfect, as a human and a man, which buttressed his development as a believable protagonist. Great mystery in all 3 books, leaving one guessing to the very end. Thoroughly enjoyed reading these!
I enjoyed the series.
Have only read the first book but looking forward to reading the others.
Great series!
I thought the characters were very realistic and you really get a good sense of what this man goes through to perfect his craft of being a sniper. Good story lines too.
Did not want to put the books down until finished. Kept me on the edge of my seat to see what happened
This group of books has been one of the most enjoyable reads I have found in many months of using my reader.
I had to read all the books 1-3 one right after the other.
They were hard to resist. I needed to find out what happened next.
I enjoyed the complete series. Once I started I couldn’t put the book down.
AMAZING mysteries, storylines, and characters. I loved the plot twists. I love the sniper aspect. It is very intriguing and engaging. Well written and can’t wait to continue the series!

was impressed. i had never read much about snipers but love the new TV show about a sniper so thought i would try the books. really liked the first three by this author and would read the author again! really gave insight into what a good sniper has to go thru to accomplish the very precise shooting they must do for their job. wow, red ants, bats, etc. lol
I enjoyed these books. There were good twists that were unexpected.
London Carter is the head of the sniper team of the Magnolia Parish Sheriff’s Department in Louisiana. He has 20-year sniper’s experience, can shoot out the left eye of a mosquito from 1,200 yards, not really (first, because mosquitos don’t have eyes, and more importantly, because he would never aim for the eye).
He is training his squad, hard and daily, to make sure that they are just as good and ready as he is when duty calls to perform flawlessly. And the first opportunity to show what London has in him is right at the opening of the book.
A bank robbery that turns into a hostage situation. Carter and his spotter right on the job and the standoff ends with London putting down the criminal with a single shot, as expected, smack in the bridge of the perp’s nose. Precisely, how our protagonist is trained and instructs his disciples, to shoot. Except, almost simultaneously, another shot is taken by an unknown person from an unknown location that kills, with deadly aim, one of the senior officers of the department, on the scene.
Pretty soon, London discovers not just that the killing was the work of a sniper but also from what location the deadly shot was made. He also finds the mystical note at the spot: James 516, which is the title of the first book.
After that, Carter talks the sheriff into making him a detective, so he could devote his incredible sleuthing talent to find the killer. He is teamed in no time with a stunningly beautiful lieutenant, in charge of the investigation. When the next murder of another captain of the department by similar means occurs, the two reach the inescapable conclusion that it is the work of a sniper, and the killings are not random. As the two chug along, and some more assassination of captains take place, we learn a lot about the technical aspects of sniping, that it is a way of life, and for some, it is their philosophical makeup (Bourg’s?). Also, we learn that London is an irresistible babe magnet, attracting beauties with identical physical attributes from their well-defined calves through their flat stomach, up to their sparkling eyes. There is a small allowance for hair color difference, however.
Josef 516 turns to be different from a reference to the New Testament, believed initially and it points toward something being very wrong in the Parish’s Sheriff Department. After a lot of twists and turns, for the sake of twists and turns, the killer(s) is found, the villain is in custody, and London can get back to his regular sniping training, which is a never-ending process.
End of book #1.
Book #2 is titled Proving Grounds. It is set in bayou country, in contrast to book #1 which was strictly urban. Here things move at a much slower pace and are confined to two feuding families, and such, slowly become boring. Yet, we have the same ingredients: the killer is a sniper, London is teamed with a beautiful deputy with the same calves-to-eyes attributes than the ones in book #1, who cannot waste a minute to get into Carter’s pants, who pre-Carter couldn’t even bat a random look at other work-mates (Bourg?).
Then we reach the point of London’s (Bourg?) diatribe about police. How “demonstrators” are accusing them of using unjustified deadly force with impunity. And how the police are the white knights, who are the last line of defense between us and the evildoers, who in fact are non-others but those who demonstrate against them with baseless accusations. The whole monologue sounds like warmed over alt-right propaganda and that is where I always quit reading.
First, because I don’t want to read anything political in a murder mystery. Second, especially not right-wing material. And third, because the author lost his credibility as far as I go.
But the irony about all this is, and at book #2 I can already mention it, that the first book’s mystery was based on a throw-down, and a corrupt to the bone sheriff. Moreover, the very title of book #1 is the physical address pointing to the venue of the police corruption. So, how did all this make a 180 in book #2?
I really enjoyed the Series, I am trying to find the next three books in the series. Very well written. Was hard to put down.
From the 1st sentence you don’t have any idea how the story will play out. Which drives the reader to keep reading. As ex military-some working with snipers is realistic which adds another slant to the story development, and the question how will the story play out? Another reason to keep reading as each story develops into another area, which local setting or the individuals s involved in the story all add to the reading pleasure.
