I was delighted to be asked to read an ARC of A.C. Merkel’s “London Calling” and provide an honest review. This story delivers all of the excitement, fun, and snappy dialogue of “Her Name is Murder” and more. Part 2 of Lady Dreamscapes is a wonderful mix of magic, fantasy, and history. I loved the imaginative story-line devised for Anne Boleyn and the mysterious lady who becomes involved with Grant and Murder. Creating a sequel that lives up to the original is a great challenge to a writer, but this one surpassed it!
The best sequels always give you more of what you loved about the first book, but then put an interesting spin on it, and that’s exactly what Merkel does here. Another quirky caper full of fantastically diverse characters, this time the gang end up on an even higher stakes journey that is an excellent entry into the Lady Dreamscapes series. Jumping back and forth through different characters and times can be a massive obstacle to overcome, but Merkel does it smoothly, and with such glee you can’t help but be dragged along on the adventure.
Murder has never been this much fun before.
Murder is back and better than ever!!
London Calling was a true glow up for both the story and the cast. I adored reading more about the people we grew to love in book one, including Tress (my favorite), Levi, Ira, and more. And the new additions to the characters (mainly Wynter) added even more depth and intrigue to a book already brimming with both.
Merkel has a fantastic imagination that truly came to fruition in London Calling. I applaud his brain for making up such a fantastic world mixed with elements of the past, the future, and our own time.
I devoured this story with a speed that attested to how good this book is. I could barely put it down. While reading book one, at times I found myself confused or even overwhelmed with some of the pacing, but none of that happened in book two. It’s perfectly set up, letting me enjoy the story from multiple viewpoints without any confusion.
I can’t wait to read more about Murder and her companions. London Calling has made me ravenous for the next book in the series already.
This is the second book in the urban modern/historical fantasy saga.
Yes, I know I can’t write modern and historical together, but trust me it’s exactly what it is or how I’m going to call it (it’s my review, so )
Gosh, it’s so difficult to write this review without spoilers
I loved the first book “Her Name Is Murder” and this book starts where the last ended. I think I love this book even more than the first one.
Murder’s and Grant’s adventure continues (yes, her name is really Murder).
More fast-paced and much more action-packed than the first book, the story is even more fascinating than the first book.
Magic, teleportation, shape changer, witchcraft and time travels all mixed with England’s historical events and the Tudor court make this book to an absolute page-turner.
It starts slowly, like the calm before the storm.
As if the author wanted to prepare you for the rush of events that all start to crash after only 25% of the book.
The remaining time of the story is like all hell has broken loose and all the events are happening at the same time, but in different places and eras.
Murder, Grant and their magical friends venture to visit their ancestors to safe the future.
This book is crazy twisted and suspense-packed.
You never know what happens next.
The multiple timelines and the sheer amount of magic and the variety of extraordinary skills that the characters possess makes it to an unbelievable exciting experience.
What I love about this book as well is that though all this chaos, magic and time travels, Murder and Grant have always time for each other and their love never wavered
I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
