Wow. My heart broke from Logan & Aubrey throughout this book. I was not expecting Logan’s back story. I’m usually not a fan of books where characters use drugs but this book was so realistic. So much more. What he went through, I can’t even imagine & no person should go through that. Never would I guess that’s where his story was leading.
Aubrey, she had so so much love to give. I loved her relationship with Lachlan. I can’t wait for his book. I love how she seamlessly fit into their family & they welcomed her with open arms.
Relationships are hard & what they went through was beyond hard. I think I like this Preston family series because everything is so realistic, not over the top hard to believe but down to earth, could happen to anyone.
A must read!!! Loved this series!
Logan Preston, I thought he was just a slacker who liked to get stoned and toss out smart@$$ remarks here and there. Boy was I wrong about him in so many ways. I fell so in love with Logan and Aubrey…loving someone isn’t at all always sweet and easy, these two definitely proved that. They also proved that the best things, in this case Love, are the things we must fight the hardest for and work at always.
Aubrey definitely danced to the beat of her own drum and could care less what anyone had to say about it. Years of not fitting in taught her that she was perfectly happy with who she was, no matter what anyone else thought. And even if she didn’t completely feel it, she kept her head up and always showed a strong front.
Logan was a player, that elusive guy that didn’t want to be tamed. The irony in that is that he fell the hardest. Logan was flawed in the sense that he never asked for help because he always thought Mary would fix it all. Mary is the biggest problem for people running from real life issues. Logan just needed to outrun his problems, but he couldn’t. He had to learn to face them head on.
Logan and Aubrey found healing between them when they were able to fit their broken pieces together. Jay McLean had this wonderful way of gripping your heart through her characters and making you feel so much and when it’s all over you realize you weren’t really there, even when you could’ve sworn you were.
Logan. The wild child. The middle child of the Preston Punks.
Completely broken yet totally loveable. Logan made my heart swoon, melt, skip a beat and shatter all in one story quickly making him my favorite Preston.

Logan is my favorite Preston brother and this book just broke me. There were so many emotions and at times I was bawling my eyes out. I just had to take a moment to breathe. Even while writing this review and thinking back about this amazing book, I am getting emotional. There were so many layers to Logan and this story. I connected with him on a level I haven’t experienced with many characters, especially when it is someone from the opposite sex. Logan goes through so much and my heart was just hurting for him. Throughout the book we slowly learn more and more about Logan and with that comes also so much understanding: for his emotions and actions. Logan is just doing his own thing, being Logan.. And then we have Aubrey moving into town and what I probably loved most about her, was her relationship with Lachlan. Their friendship and conversations did so much for this book and I really fell more in love with that little guy. If Jay ever decides to write a book about him, I’ll be first in line. Their love, their story it is just so complicated, at the same time they are just perfect for each other. The angst in this book is off the charts, and also a reason why I loved this book so much. This book deals with a lot of serious topics like addiction (the others I am not going to mention since I feel it might spoil the book, but be aware!) and Jay (like always) does it really well. I probably said it before and I don’t really care because I will say it again: whatever Jay McLean writes, I will read. Another five star read from Jay McLean.

Logan is one of my all-time favorite book boyfriends. He is tragically beautiful and his story broke my heart and rebuilt it even stronger. Every book that Mclean has released has touched me and left me craving for more, however, Logan was somehow even more. No sooner had I finished the book I started to reread it. Logan and Aubrey have such a profound connection and their love has so much to overcome. I experienced every emotion while reading this book and I cannot recommend a great love story.
I have read books by this author in the past have have always found them to be absolutely amazing reads, so when I have a level of expectation I keep my fingers crossed that I enjoy her next book as much as the others. I needn’t have worried…. not even for one moment. This book was outstanding! Oh the feels, she had me sitting on an emotional roller coaster and that ride was fantastic, so much that I want to erase my memory and read the book for the very first time again. Logan Preston, what a complex character he is. We learn so much about this amazing guy throughout the book and I couldn’t help my heart being squeezed as I read his story. In walks Aubrey into his life and not in the way he expects her to. What an amazing character she is and I admire her tremendously. The whole Preston family are so wonderful that I just want to be a part of it and even though the book focuses on Logan, I loved hearing how his siblings were getting on too. Jay Mclean has written a book that was at times difficult to read but so heartbreakingly beautiful I couldn’t have been able to stop myself. Outstanding!! I recommend this book with out a second thought.
I feel like I’m part of this beautiful family. I never want to leave them. This family is deeply emotional. I ache for these characters. I cry, laugh and swoon for them. This is the unselfish love from a broken family.
Logan’s story is raw, gritty and intense. It’s filled with angst, laughter and sadness. Logan is the bad boy. The family’s black sheep. You really wonder what’s beneath the bravado Logan Preston? He has so many issues he is trying to escape. Secrets. Mary is his life line. His only way to deal with life. He is a very complicated character that I fell deeply for. This boy broke my heart.
Aubrey is a brave, strong, fierce girl. She is not a fan of Logan. She has her own demons to slay. Trying to start a new life. But then, these two souls were meant to meet each other in this life. She is his salvation. They fight for themselves and each other. Their story is a long road of redemption, forgiveness, love and heartbreak.
Jay McLean addresses some huge issues in this story. So much passion, love and laughter. So much pain and anger. This story was heartbreaking. But I trust McLean to give me these emotional stories that are always worth reading. This book has so much depth. Loved it.
“I don’t see anyone but you. Even in my lowest, darkest moments, Aubrey, I only ever saw you”
This was my first read by Jay McLean and I loved it! This book can be read as a standalone but connects into a larger series (which I always enjoy). Logan is the middle child in the Preston family and it definitely feels like he is a bit of an outcast both within his family and outside of it. Aubrey is a newcomer to town and has a chip on her shoulder from some of her previous experiences. These two definitely spark off each other from the get go as they start with a bit of fighting banter before the cross over into romance. I really enjoyed the build up of there relationship with the chemistry and tension continuing to develop over the course of the book. And then the angst- there was always something underneath the surface with Logan and his stoner persona but the revelations of that secret and it’s connection to Aubrey just tugs at your heart strings and makes you connect so much more with the characters. Definitely read this book for the romance but come prepared with some tissues!
I don’t understand how it’s possible that every new release by Jay tops the last one as my favorite but it happens every. single. time. Logan completely wrecked me and put me back together. I’m still not sure I have the words to do him and his lady justice.
Logan is the middle child of the Preston clan, one of my favorite literary families of all time. He’s a high school dropout, pothead, and overall seems to lack direction. Underneath all the bravado, he is more than all of that. He’s funny, he’s protective, he’s a little broken. But one special girl will change everything.
This story gripped me from the prologue to the epilogue. I finished in one sitting because I just couldn’t walk away from this amazing book. I laughed hysterically (The Mayhem!!!), I cried hysterically, and every emotion in between. Lachlan is my favorite kid in the world and I can’t wait until he grows up. With every book I become a little more obsessed with the Preston family and I can’t wait to see what’s next for this awesome clan.
Logan is as funny as it is tragic. You get so many witty scenes between him and Red as you are slowly taken on a hard fought journey to the truth. The truth about his bravado. Definitely a must read.
Another great book. I loved learning more about Logan.
Logan ripped my heart open, and I loved every minute of it. This book will surprise you, and in the end, the culmination of love will fill your heart!
From Part 1 to Part 2 I had to take a quick breather & that is only about 12% into the book. I had a feeling that this book would break me in ways I would have not expected from a typical man doing his own thing and needless to say it did. However, I never would have guess it would have me breaking down tears in my eyes in front of my son in attempts to hold it back from falling. That is how bad I could not put this book down.
Nothing could have prepared me for the demons that Logan was going through. Without spoiling anything I will attempt to be as general as I can because this read is one that you should experience with surprises.
One would probably think that once you read a story about an author that the story tends to feel the same, can repeat themselves through their writing styles, and so forth. The vibe on this read was one that was although typical and cliche the story itself was different and one of a kind. It will have your heart broken in pieces, your mind in a constant whirlwind, with a mix of banter and fun. The want, the need, the reasoning behind everything will all make sense at the end and will have you feeling more for the characters than you expected.
Admittedly I had a huge book hangover and that is because the purpose of the book. I looked at things differently, I needed to go back and re-read parts that stood out that had me breaking and feeling. Why go through the it again? Because it entails emotions that will have you opening your eyes and seeing things in a new perspective. No matter what someone may see on the outside it is the inside that will be the strongest and make a person.
Seriously, Jay McLean’s books continues to give me feels beyond my control. She creates her characters and their world in a way were you feel one with them. The love for this series and its spin off is a great one and not because it interconnected with one another rather the substance of each of their stories.
Whew….this one just ripped my heart out and stitched it back together and has left me a sobbing mess!!! I thought Lucas was good but this one topped that one for me. I love a story where someone is loved unconditionally through their pain and hurt and mistakes. Logan has been through the same loss of their mother as his sister and 5 brothers. Logan can’t seem to function as well as everyone else does. He can’t function without his drug of choice. He plays the field. He numbs his emotions. Then Aubrey walks into his life and things start to change. What everyone doesn’t know is that Logan harbors a secret that no one knows and that is why he is the way he is. Aubrey was changing that in him, healing him until something comes out that nearly destroys him again. This one has all the feels and a little brother named Lachlan who you can’t help fall in love with. The relationship between Lachlan and Aubrey was priceless and what he does for Logan and Aubrey in the end was amazing and heartfelt and really emotional. Better have your tissues for this one.
5+ stars!
Logan by Jay McLean is phenomenal writing. This book consumed like no other book has in a very long time. From the first to last page I was addicted. Logan intrigued me when reading Lucas’ story but my heart was truly not prepared! My heart feels beaten and bruised in such an amazing way. I am sure I say this with every single book I have reviewed by Jay McLean but she is a MASTER of angst and emotion. Her writing, her storylines, her characters are so uniquely written. They are on a whole other level. The family dynamic is as strong as ever. The Preston family are an incredibly supportive family. They have been through SO much and the love and devotion they have for one another is such a beautiful thing.
Logan’s character was so real, and raw. He is harboring some deep pain and secrets and discovering what those were and the intensity of them I was truly was not prepared for. He is the middle child of 7 children. He has always been the jokester. Tells you like it is. Has absolutely no filter and in his younger years was a pretty big jerk but you know deep down there is something underneath him that he is disguising.
I absolutely adored Aubrey. Right from the moment she was introduced I knew she was the perfect match for Logan to break down his walls but I was not prepared for their connection. WHOA. It is gorgeous, intense and so beautiful. Aubrey’s father died when she was young and her mom has destroyed everything to do with him and has no idea why. There were so many complexities to Aubrey’s character. She has moved to town and opened up her own shop right next to Lucy’s bookstore and is determined to start over. What she is starting over from we do not know.
My most favorite connection in this book aside from Aubrey and Logan was Aubrey’s relationship with Logan’s brother Lachlan. OMG. THE SWEETEST! What a truly special relationship they had!
This book is EVERYTHING and there is so much more I could say but I urge you to read this one for yourself. There was a ton of ugly crying at the end and I am not even embarrassed by that fact. This is definitely a top all-time favorite and I cannot wait for Leo next!
I cannot believe how much this book broke my heart. HOW DARE IT. How very dare it.
Now I need more. Am I getting more? I don’t know. But I will petition Jay McLean to get more.
This is the 2nd book in this fascinating and riveting series and is Aubrey and Logan’s story. This is a beautifully written tale which is an emotional roller coaster throughout, as well as having heartbreak, and love which all leads to a poignant, humorous, and powerful moving story. I cannot wait to read Leo’s story next and I highly recommend this talented authors work for all readers.
This was such an angsty, emotional read for me. I’ll be honest there were times I put it down just to gather myself. There are heavy topics in here that just grab you in the heart and squeeze so tightly your not sure you’ll be okay. Logan and “Red” have such a great relationship when they can get it together. Fate is a funny fickle thing and sometimes things happen….and they need to happen. The outcome is amazing and it all works out in the end!

After being introduced to the Preston brothers in Lucas by Jay McLean, I was immediately captivated and couldn’t wait to get to know each sibling better. After falling for Lucas though I wasn’t sure anyone else could compare, but Logan has definitely pushed his way to the top of my nightly dreams. A young man who’s always been troubled finds himself attracted to the one woman who might give him what’s always been missing in his life in an emotionally intense romance full of unexpected twists and turns.
As the middle child, Logan never really stood out, going with the flow and with anyway the wind blew…except for when he was getting high, cutting school, and hiding truths about himself behind a wall of bravado. He was brash, a bit of a douchebag at times, and it was clear that he was heading for a bad ending. The moment he meets Aubrey though is the moment everything changes for him….and for her. They start out as enemies with delightful back and forth banter teeming with sexual tension that soon has them finding more commonalities than reasons to keep fighting. Logan never saw her coming in a slow-burn relationship that has both of them putting their hearts on the line, working through painful issues from their pasts, and letting the healing power of love wash over them. Logan’s a complex character behind his stoner facade, a character who had me laughing one moment while breaking my heart the next before frustration would set in when he most needed to prove himself to Aubrey. For most of his life he felt alone, despite being surrounded by a loving family, with only marijuana to embrace him when things got dark and his narrative about “Mary” is a bit obsessive and shows just how desperate he is to escape his pain. With Aubrey he finally feels capable of giving love to another and accepting it in return in a relationship that pulled at my heartstrings while making me teary-eyed a time or two as it was a hard-fought journey to HEA.
Aubrey’s the new girl in town, an unassuming addition to the neighborhood who’s got her own bruises from a hurtful ex which leaves her leery of opening her heart up again to another…but when it comes to Logan she just can’t help herself. Despite the unintentional hurts he causes her, Aubrey forgives him time and again, offering support and acceptance whenever he needs it. She also finds a much-needed family of her own with the Preston family bringing her into the fold through charming and heartwarming interactions with each member, particularly between her and young Lachlan. Aubrey’s a likable heroine, a bit more forgiving than I could be concerning Logan’s missteps, but it spoke volumes to her big heart and caring nature and was a definite bright spot in Logan’s life.
On a whole this was one heckuva emotional rollercoaster ride dealing with heavy issues balanced with a sweet and sensual romance between two people whose hearts were caught by surprise by their deepening connection. It was a journey that wasn’t sugar-coated and it highlighted Logan as a perfectly imperfect hero who I couldn’t help but root for even as I wanted to slug him a time or two. Aubrey’s a good match as she’s just what he needs as he works through his demons…someone who’s loving and accepting despite his flaws. Along with this compelling main couple is an equally entertaining cast of secondary characters…the Preston family. They’re an amazing group of people who I wish would adopt me as they’re supportive, protective, with interactions that warmed my heart. I’m not normally a fan of children in romances but Lachlan’s utterly delightful! He’s the baby of the family but wise beyond his years and I treasured every interaction with him. I enjoyed getting an update on past couples and squealed in delight over a reveal in the epilogue as it was a long time coming. With each new installment in this series I feel like part of the family and can’t wait to see where the author takes us next!
