Reviewed for Sweet Spot Sisterhood
This captivating romance had me under its spell right from the start. This love story was powerfully raw, suspenseful, very emotional, romantic and beautifully inspiring. Maverick and Einstein are two broken souls. One fateful encounter sends their lives careening down a path they never even imagined possible. I was not prepared for how deeply and emotionally this story would impact me. The twists and turns along the way were an intense rollercoaster ride of emotions and I could feel every emotion the characters experienced. The emotions just bled from the pages; some scenes literally stole my breath leaving me in tears and others had me on the edge of my seat. I loved watching Maverick and Einstein fall in love. Their attraction is magnetic and their chemistry is undeniable. Their passion is explosive. They share a soul-deep connection that is unbreakable; no matter what life throws their way their connection remains unbreakable. Witnessing what they endure to be together and how they fight for one another was breathtaking. The characters are well-developed and relatable. The storyline is very well-written and flows poetically. This story left a mark on my heart and soul and stayed with me long after “the end”. I highly recommend reading this book!
5 Gripping Stars!!
The minute I started this book I knew I was in for an emotional, suspense filled, sexy ride. Einstein and Maverick are a puzzle that needs putting together, but there are so many pieces to their story and everyone has a role in it!
This book moves between past and present to get us where we need to be to understand the who’s, what’s and why’s of activities taking place. And when I tell you I was on the edge of my seat for most of this book, that’s no lie. Around every corner there’s a revelation that had me gasping.
Ms. McAdams has written a book that is dark and gripping in all the right ways. Her characters have so many layers to them and just when I thought I had them figured out, BOOM!! I’m thrown for a loop and I’m literally waiting for the next shoe to be dropped.
One of the things I loved most about Maverick is that he presents this façade of being this big bad mobster, when in reality he’s got several soft spots inside of him especially when it comes to Einstein. He’s determined to make her his no matter what it takes. Oh and the story that leads to the climactic, and shocking truth had my heart literally beating so hard and fast I had to take several deep breaths!
What it all comes down to is that Ms. McAdams has written a story that drew me in, chewed me up and spit me out wondering what the heck I just read. I’m not sure I’m recovered yet nor how long it’ll take me to stop being obsessed about this story and Maverick and Einstein!
Holy Hell, Lock is one hell of a crazy ride!
Einstein and Maverick – how cool are those two names?! And, the fact that their cool factor describes the kind of people they are as well only adds to how intriguing this hero and heroine are.
I haven’t met a heroine like Einstein in quite some time; her intelligence, her perseverance, her courage cannot be matched, and my heart felt her anguish and her suffering when nothing seemed to go as planned. I truly don’t know how someone is supposed to carry the load that she had to and the fact that she didn’t break until she did, speaks to exactly the type of person she is. Einstein’s personality is complex and what I loved most about her was that, just when a character or even me as a reader felt like we had her all figured out, Einstein would expose another layer and we’d need to analyze what that one said about her and her life, which was not an easy challenge.
It’s expected that if the heroine is multifaceted than her hero would be as well, and that is so the case with Maverick. Outwardly, his mobster persona reigns and he owns that part of who he is masterfully, but Maverick is so much more than a kingpin, and much of what he is, is illustrated through his love and devotion to Einstein – the woman he has loved from afar for so long…the same one who tried everything she could to push him away, but still, he persisted and broke down her walls. The complexity of Maverick’s character is what will allow readers to see beyond his powerful and deadly position, and his love for Einstein and what he does for her will endear him to readers regardless of how they feel about his other activities.
There is so much to unravel in Lock, but the key to all of that information is not in the readers’ hand, which means that keeper of the key, Molly McAdams herself, is in total control of what pertinent insights she’ll reveal and when, and while I should be used to that process, for some reason, it drove me beyond nuts and put me on the brink a time or two. My mind is one that requires inferences; it just the way my brain is wired, so the fact that I felt in the dark for much of the first half of the story line and
I couldn’t get enough of Einstein and Maverick; I couldn’t get enough of Molly McAdams’ storytelling and character development; I couldn’t get enough of the romance, the suspense, the desire, and the love that resonates from the pages, and the fact that McAdams didn’t make anything easy or simple for her main characters speaks to how strong Einstein and Maverick are and how much faith the author had that her hero and heroine could endure…could overcome…could be victorious with the cards that they were dealt and what they were up against from the very beginning.
This is what romantic suspense is supposed to be – I was literally on the edge of my seat as I dove deeper into the story line; it gripped me in such a way that I wanted to read faster, but I knew if I tried to push forward too quickly that I wouldn’t savor when the secrets were revealed or when the darkness was no longer so overpowering. I needed to be patient and absorb all of the words and sentences that tell a story unlike one I’ve read in a long time.
Lock is a story and Einstein and Maverick are characters that will stay with me for some time – that’s how addictive and consuming it was!
5 Poison Apples
Breathless. Blown away. Dumb freaking struck.
This book! God, my mind is still reeling and my heart is still hammering inside my chest from the intensity of everything I’ve just read. Lock was such an emotionally poignant and vastly captivating romantic suspense that consumed me every single second I was immersed in the world of the Borellos. Only Molly McAdams can rob me of my breath, make my heart squeeze and skip a thousand beats, and drown me in a heap of emotions like this. She’ll make you feel like you’re watching a film the entire time, seeing every scene play out in your mind’s eye, and have you on the edge of your seat, clutching anything you could just to hold on. And she’ll definitely push you to the brink of insanity, wanting to flip the pages as fast as you could, just to be able to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Here I thought Lyric was phenomenal, but this… this was beyond what I could’ve ever imagined for Einstein and Maverick’s story.
“Our first kiss had shattered all the walls around my heart. That first spoken I love you freed my soul.”
Einstein is this quirky, mad computer genius who’s so easy to love. Her jovial spirits and buoyancy were so infectious, you won’t be able to help but smile and laugh at her antics. But Lock will also show you a different side to this girl that even you’ll be left to beg for her to catch a break already. After all, there’s only so much a person can take before they fall to pieces. The things she’s gone through? They’re so heartbreaking, you’ll need to stop so many times in the duration of this book just to take deep breaths, regather the shattered pieces of your heart and will it to calm back down.
“I don’t know how to live in a world where she doesn’t love me.”
Maverick, on the other hand, might be a tough, menacing mobster who could kill you with one shot, but this man has one of the biggest and most tender of hearts too. He has the patience of all the saints put together—waiting on the sidelines, loving his woman quietly for over a decade, and never giving up on her on the most trying of times, even when she did everything she could to push him away. But that’s only scratching the surface on why it’s inevitable to fall so deep and hard for this man. These two will only continue to surprise you at every turn and won’t stop until the dust has settled.
“When you look at what we’ve gone through just to get here, it isn’t important. Being able to actually have a life with you is.”
Maverick and Einstein together were nothing less than compelling and magnetizing. Their connection ran deeper than a bottomless ocean. Their bond has been tried and tested through the roughest and most turbulent of waters. Their relationship has braved and weathered almost anything you can ever imagine. And they might’ve even been on the brink of breaking at one point, but if you have the kind of love and chemistry that these two have? It’ll ultimately take so much more than that to rip them apart. They’re just that meant to be together.
“My heart will never stop beating in time with yours. Don’t you get that?”
Explosive. Addictive. And downright intoxicating. This book had so much heart and soul and grit so potent and raw, you’ll feel vulnerable and flayed wide open even after you’ve reached the end. Lock was absolutely nothing short of a gripping, mind-numbing, soul-shattering and heart-crushing whirlwind of a story that will leave you obsessed and engrossed with every chapter you pass. You’ll get so completely lost in Maverick and Einstein’s world, there’s no chance you’ll want to put the book down once you crack it open. There’s no question that after this, I’m certainly more than looking forward to the next book in the series.
Every time I read a Molly Mc Adams book I feel like her writing has surpassed everything I’ve read by her before. Lock was an incredibly emotional and challenging read. Some parts of the book were so heartbreaking I could feel the ache in my chest. Other moments were so harrowing I could only set my kindle down and allow myself a moment to breathe and recuperate. Einstein’s story wasn’t easy, but it was beautifully told.
Avery, aka Einstein, has been a huge question mark for me since we first met her in Firefly. There was an inherent melancholy around her I needed to understand. Her story ended up being far more tragic than I could have anticipated. Her huge heart had been battered and bruised by the worst kind of human, all the while it was reaching for someone else entirely. Then, just when I thought her story was going to turn a corner life took that damaged but healing heart and obliterated it. God, my heart broke for her. Watching her experience that, then continue to wallow in that devastation while also subjecting herself to more pain was heartrending.
Andrew, aka Maverick, was a perfect and beautiful partner for Einstein. He was supportive and selfless, and I fell irrevocably in love with the way he relentlessly loved her. The pain and suffering he and Einstein experienced was 100% worth it because of him. As much as they had been through Maverick always had a light and hope that shone through his pain. Even in the greatest devastation of his life, there was something in him that allowed me to feel there was nothing he wouldn’t do to ensure he and Einstein find the happiness they’d earned.
Lock was intense, both in Einstein and Maverick’s love story and in the plot. There were so many moving pieces, so many points of interest to distract from figuring out the endgame; I was on edge through the entirety of the novel trying to understand how everything fit together. Written by any other author Lock may have had too many plots and subplots, but Molly McAdams wove each part together seamlessly and produced an intricate and sublime story of pain, heartache, suspense, and love.
Lock is the second book in Molly McAdams’ Rebel series. These books are interconnected standalones, each focusing on a different couple, and can be read independently. However, I would highly suggest starting with the Redemption series in its entirety, then moving on to the Rebel series and reading both books, in order, to fully understand the intense, crazy world Ms. Mc Adams has created. Lock is written in dual first-person perspective, alternating between past and present, and is narrated by Einstein and Maverick.
Molly McAdams is a true wordsmith. She takes these words, bends them to her will, and fabricates a story that is sharp, solid, and stunning. I am taken aback again and again by the sheer artistry she produces with the brush that is the English language. I continually find myself eagerly anticipating the next time I will be able to lose myself in her words and her worlds, as they always leave me with more emotions and things to consider than I could ever imagine.
This was my first Molly McAdams ARC! I already have some of her earlier paperbacks, and a couple of her e-books in my iPad.
To be honest, I wasn’t able to read it’s predecessors. I had to check the blurbs of some of the books to have an idea who the characters better.
Overall, you can read this book as a standalone…. but trust me, it’d be much better to read the previous books so you’ll have a smoother integration into the next book… Some of them were already in my TBR list—a TBR list that probably consisted of 500 books long… I only bump the ARC’s up since they have a due date… I think most of us, bookworms, have that same problem, lol… Anyway…
I have mixed feelings about this one, and I’m probably the only one… I don’t know…
I know emotional rollercoasters are the author’s trademark, but man… this one felt like the longest rollercoaster ever. I felt beat, tired, angry, anxious, gutted and wrangled—and this is neither good nor bad, its just (sigh) I don’t know….
My heart still hurts. My chest feels heavy. Is that even normal? Am I the only one who feels this way?? I didn’t ugly cry at all but I was very sad, drained and very frustrated… both main characters frustrated the h3ll outta me, especially the female lead.smh…
All the freaking time I kept yelling at her in my head, “Just tell him! Just tell him!” because for me, the secret wasn’t worth all the anguish… it wasn’t worth draining the life out of her and him. I know it was explained in story why she did what she did, but for an acclaimed genius, it wasn’t a very intelligent move. He loves her so much. He’d take a bullet for her, but why won’t she do this for him? For the both them? and this goes on and on… smh.
After all this time, after all they went through… to finally be together, just to be separated again; not because of other people, but because of an accident neither of them want to happen…. Accident’s happen all the time. They both work for the mafia for crying out loud! She should’ve just told him… what she did drained him, drained her and in turn, it also drained me.
Yeah sure we all have our reasons, but come on! At least she did acknowledge she was a coward… and she may be annoying but at least she wasn’t a hypocrite… A lot of characters frustrate me, but Einstein (Avery) is one of those at the top… I cant relate to her much. I think I can relate more to Maverick (Andrew) than her… He was just so patient and loving and practically a saint to be the way he was with her. Nobody exerts that much effort or sacrifice anymore these days. He was the martyr and she was the emotional aggressor.
The relief of the heaviness in this story is Diggs (Evan). He was what the story needed to balance the load full of feelings it squeezes out of you… He made me smile and he lightens every situation he’s in. He is the epitome of what brother should me. And when push comes to shove, he’s got his brother’s back 100%.
This is a “heavy” read… a romantic suspense, action and drama.
It is gripping but it’s very angsty, and definitely not one of those rainbows and unicorns, lovey-dovey sh!t most romantic saps eat up.
Ohhhh my goodness!!! I think my heart is finally beating normal again! Because it definitely hasn’t been since I started this book! The minute I started it I was sucked right in and HAD to know what happened!! I couldn’t flip the pages on my kindle fast enough. Einstein and Maverick stop my heart right along with the rest of their family. Add in the suspense of this story and needing to know what happened and just dang!! I work long hours during the week anymore and I don’t have time to read. I MADE time to read. I HAD to know what happened! And I needed to know if there was going to be a happily ever after. Being on he edge of my seat for the last two days was totally worth it and then some!
I. Loved. This. Book! It was such a rush and I was sucked in from the very first word. I’d been wanting Einstein’s story for so very long. I was thrilled to meet Maverick. He’s just what I would want for Einstein. He was so friggin sweet with a pure heart of gold and the patients of a saint… they deserve each other!
Anytime I get a chance to read a Molly McAdams book I seriously devour it. She writes as it it can go straight to my soul, to my heart. Lock is full of thrilling romance, and I mean that literally, it was thrilling and so full of romance. Everything about this book entrances you… it so sexy and dark. That’s it…. I can’t write more because I want to say more so I’ll stop!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
4 Stars
With each book in this series the suspense level rises a little higher. The unconditional love that Ms McAdams brings to her characters is souls touching. The two together and you have yourself a book you just can’t put down.
Einstein was a big part of book one and you truly fall in love with her character then. But as we flashback to the past her trying to heal Johnny, and falling in love with Maverick even from a distance. But as we watch her lose her heart and push everyone away, it is painstaking.
Maverick has nothing but his brother. He slowly accepts this new family the longer they work together. He quickly falls for the one woman he can’t have, but he is willing to stand by her and wait as long as it takes. When life feels like it has finally turned for the better it is short lived. But he never gives up on them, for every push she deals out he pulls to bring her back.
Can there be a happily ever after for Einstein and Maverick.
Excited to see where the series takes us next.
Where do I begin with this book. We know Einstein and her genius, we know Maverick and his assassin ways. In this book we see a side of these two we never saw before.
We met them in the redemption series ( firefly and nightshade), now we finally get to know them. Einstein has had so much happen that no one knows about. Maverick is the one who knows more then the rest of the family. This story unfolds over time and I had moments of laughter and moments where I felt the emotions bleeding off the pages from these two. Twists that were unexpected but will keep you reading. I had to stop a few times to regain my emotions.
If you read the redemption series, you need to read this book. My recommendation..read the redemption series. Then start lyric, the first in the rebel series.
This book was so much more than I was expecting. Tears I wasn’t expected to shed. I recommend this book.
Talk about PINS and NEEDLES!!!!
I couldn’t wait for Einstein and Maverick’s story. And McAdam’s didn’t let me down. She had me on the edge of my seat. Flipping the pages. And then she GUTTED me! Molly McAdam’s style.
This book gives us flashbacks from the past. From when Einstein and Mav first met. And takes us through their relationship over the years. It was sweet at times and extremely painful at others. But the love and passion between the characters is powerful. And will have you catching your breath at times. It was emotional filled with lots of angst!!!!!
I found myself wanting to reach through my tablet so I could wrap my arms around the characters to give them comfort. LOL!! I can’t get enough of this series or characters.
Molly McAdams has done it again! I absolutely love this series! I have always wanted to get inside Einstein’s Brain and I finally got the chance! I think she is my favorite in the Borello group!
