Widows are safe for this rakehell to bed… He’s the opposite of what she wants, but exactly what she needs.
And her heart leaps before her head can catch up.
Rupert Willoughby dedicated his youth to becoming the worst possible candidate for Earl, a title he never wanted.
Not only does he have a reputation for drinking, and frequenting ladies of the night, but he has the muscles of a pugilist. Most unbecoming of a gentleman.
He thought he’d secured his freedom, but nothing can scare away the matchmaking mamas and eligible ladies of the ton.
Society expects him to marry. He needs a wife he can wed, bed and forget.
Then Lizzie enters his world and stamps herself onto his heart.
Rupert’s found a woman he wants to love forever… but can he be the man his beloved Lizzie deserves?

Archie’s story is better. This is a typical steamy romance. He’s a horndog who sleeps his way through half the female population, and has the emotional maturity of a 12 yr old. She’s naive and has never known pleasure in bed. And it’s love. But it’s not. She gets him to be true to himself, but he is ready to settle down. She turns him into a better man, and all he does is gives her orgasms.
Meh. I liked that in this book, the heroine was a widow rather than a virgin (the whole rake and virgin thing can get old fast) but the hero’s seemingly pointless resistance to falling in love and getting invested seemed forced and I found myself really irritated that the whole plot was driven by something pretty meaningless. I mean, you know he’s going to decide he loves her and wants to be with her in the end because it’s a romance book, so why must I suffer through his unoriginal “oh, no, but I’m a rake, I like having lots of mistresses and affairs, I don’t want to fall in love, blah blah blah”.
There were also many frustrating, sudden changes in perspective which just felt like sloppy wiring. Perspective changes in the middle of a paragraph. I can forgive little typos, but these errors were distracting and confusing.
So overall, decent sex scenes, meh everything else.
Silly … I didn’t finish it.
This story isn’t very deep or very long, but it is fun. The characters are engaging; the heroine a bit less shallow than the hero who has some growing up to do.
He was reluctant, but her love won out. The steamy parts reveal much in a relationship besides sex. The author featured many aspects of personality, trust, doubt and friendship. Supporting characters round out the story nicely. Happily ever after explained and the reader can cheer. A very pleasant story to read and re-read.
Although predictable, it was a quick read.
John is determined not to be like his father, love someone to distraction. Until he meets Hannah an American who is like no other woman he has ever known. Against everything he has set his mind to as far as women are concerned, he can’t resist her.
Loved this (double) romance with its twists and turns!
Fun exciting and full of emotion!
Kept me reading
So-so read. The book ends on a “cliff hanger” which I did not expect. I also didn’t expect the story to be so dark.
Such a great book! You find yourself rooting for the characters. A very touching, romantic, realistic book. It shows how love really can change the heart. Even a rake set in his ways!
Okay run of the mill diversion. Graphic in parts. Lots of anachronistic dialogue.
I enjoyed it and will look for the next in the series
Great book. Easy to read and hard to put down. Gets you hooked on the entire series. Good character and plot lines with a little twist to make it interesting.
As the third installment in this series of four books, I didn’t know what to really expect as the last two spares were rakes, which women will be enough crazy to want to marry them.
Here is the story of Ruppert and Lizzie.
He is in search for his next mistress, she is seeking for a husband.
So when Ruppert thought he has found his new interest, he is dismissed because of his way of life. For the first time since long he is the one who has to work to gain some favors he never had been denied before.
Lizzie has already experienced a marriage missing of something, so now she wants more, if possible the whole package. The awesome rake is a walking temptation but he is also so far away from her own hopes. And can she indulge herself without losing her heart?
Lizzie was good to Ruppert, she made him understood that he could be faithful to one woman and still be himself. He needed sometime to comprehend that leaving his old habits won’t cost him his soul if it is for the right woman.
A lovely sexy read about the woman who tamed a rake.
This is the third in a series of books about four “Sparesl,” second born sons who ordinarily would not inherit their father’s title. In each case, it becomes obvious that the heir is not going to produce a son for the next generation.
The curious thing about this book is that while Lizzie has decided she won’t marry a rake, when she meets a rake he falls head over heels in love with her. The book takes twists and turns until the hero is able to convince her that his love for her has changed him from being a rake.
Overall a pleasant afternoon’s read.
This was my first book by Ms. Miers but it definitely won’t be my last. Very steamy love scenes that left me breathless. Interesting storyline (SPOILER ALERT) to see how H dealt with being afraid of love, and indeed not even recognizing it, because of his parent’s and brother’s mariages. I need to go back and read the previous two books in the series now!
Rupert is a second son and refuses to wed any time soon. That till his brother makes him an offer he wont walk away from. As arake he is use to getting whatever widow he wants till he meets his match in Elizabeth.
Elizabeth a widow and childless is looking for a husband . Upon the season she meets Rupert handsome as sin but he only wants her in his bed. Finally she get there where he intended but he starts breaking all his own rules.
Good book
