Adam:I might be into guys. Do you have any idea how terrifying that is? I’ve already run halfway across the country to get away from my abusive parents, and I really want to experiment, but I can’t even hook up without scaring myself away. I might look confident on the outside, but this is tearing me apart. Then my new roomie wins a trip for two to a gay resort in Hawaii. Darren wants to show his … wants to show his clueless ex that he’s moved on, and I want to help out. Darren deserves way better, and faking being his boyfriend is the perfect chance to figure out my feelings. But then what do I do when the man I really want turns out to be Darren himself?
Darren:
I escaped the regret-fueled hookups with my ex when I moved out. He’s not the worst guy out there, but now we’re going to be at the same resort for a week, and I want to make it clear that I’m off-limits. My hotheaded, impulsive, but surprisingly sweet new roommate is willing to help with that.
While I pretend to date Adam, I can’t stop imagining what it’d be like for real. I want to be more than Adam’s experiment, and suddenly keeping up appearances is less important than following my heart. I’m going to have to learn to trust all over again for this to work out once this week is over, though. Can we grow strong enough to build something that lasts forever?
Live Wire is book two in the Brooklyn Boys series, where good men find their happily ever afters in a hectic metropolis. It has an HEA and no cliffhanger. There will be one king-sized bed, confusingly real kisses, a broken heart healing, a lot of firsts, an awkward plane trip, and the prize of a lifetime: a heart to hold safe.

I loved listening to this!
Live Wire is the second book in the Brooklyn Boys series but it can be read as a standalone just fine. We did meet the two MCs in the first book, Electric Sunshine, but I don’t really think you’ll feel lost if you don’t have time to read it first.
I always enjoy listening to Nick J. Russo’s voice and he did a great job with this book, just like he always does. This is only the second book I’ve listened to/read by E. Davies but I am definitely continuing on with this series.
Live Wire is a great bi-awakening, fake boyfriends, roommates-to-lovers story. Adam is questioning his attraction to guys but he hasn’t yet acted on it. His new roommate thinks he’s straight. Darren has just moved out of his ex’s place and is now Adam’s roommate.
The blurb for the book is really good so I won’t rehash it. I will say that the story kept me engaged and I listened to it straight through. I’m really looking forward to listening to the final book in this series.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
Live Wire is the second book in the Brooklyn Boys series and can easily be read as a standalone, but there are familiar faces from book one. This is a contemporary romance series with friends-to-lovers and bi-awakening tropes.
Adam has come a long way from the lost teenager back in Tennessee. He’s making his way in New York City, working for a landscaping company and figuring out his life. Darren needs to move on from his ex-boyfriend and restart his romantic life. Moving in with Adam seems like the perfect solution, but he’s still hung up on his ex-boyfriend. A surprise trip to Hawaii for the both of them is exactly what they need to come to terms with the new changes in their life and in their relationship.
This book was so entertaining. I loved Adam’s exploration of himself as he figures out who he is all the while falling in love with Darren. The writing was wonderfully done and the plot was perfectly paced. There was a lot of character growth which also led to some incredibly hot sex scenes. I enjoyed this book immensely.
Nick. J. Russo narrated this audiobook and did a great job. He kept the character voices consistent and threw in appropriate accents to really bring everyone to life. I enjoyed his performance and was instantly hooked on this audiobook.
Live Wire by E. Davies is the second book in the Brooklyn Boys series. Well written and entertaining story,, well developed and interesting characters… this book had me fully engaged in the scenes and feeling the emotions. Sweet, heat, and humor mix well here.
Nick J Russo delivers a smooth and enjoyable performance. Well done!
Darn you Ed!!!
I knew I would be in for an amazing read. I knew that I would be pulled into the story. I knew my emotions would be everywhere with Adam. What I was not prepared for was Darren and his story.
From the previous book, I thought Darren was gonna be strong and settled. Maybe a bit unsettled at the moment but basically have his life together. Even though this was what I was expecting, I loved how he was just as vulnerable and unsure as Adam.
There were 2 scenes in the book that just stood out and had me laughing so hard. Ed really showed us that wall sex isn’t really that great and wrestling on 2 twin beds held together with a king size sheets can cause much laughter from all parties.
This book introduces us to a whole slew of new characters that could potentially be seen in a story of their own and has me curious as to which ones Ed has plans to develop. Enrique/Ricky is up next and should be interesting after his failed Grindr hook up with Adam.
This is the second book in the Brooklyn Boys series. Both Adam and Darren make appearances in the first book of the series and Adam was briefly introduced to us in the book, Tremble (a book in another series by this author). You, however, do not need to read either of those books to enjoy this book.
I loved this book! It’s a fake boyfriend trope with a fun tropical vacation thrown in. Adam has been struggling with his bisexuality and wanting to explore. Darren has never felt like he is wanted for who he truly is, always just convenient to his boyfriends. When these two come together it’s both hot and sweet. And of course, a fabulous HEA! I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series!
Another wonderful book by E. Davies. This author takes the fake boyfriend trope and makes it their own with all the traits I love so much: beautifully written, well-developed characters, hot and sexy times, snarky banter, dry wit, and a whole lot of tenderness.
We met Adam and Darren in Electric Sunshine as they became roommates out of necessity. An odder pair is hardly possible, but it is true when they say opposites attract. At first, Adam didn’t come across as a very nice person, but you could feel it is all an act. Darren, on the other hand, looked like he had everything going for him. But both men are hiding, hiding their fears and insecurities, their self-doubt and questions about their true identity. The growth of these two men is remarkable. Both individually and together as a couple. I loved how the author handled Adam’s bicuriosity and how Darren was so supportive without being pushy. And Darren coming into his own again, being the sparkling man he was before his ex did a number on him was lovely to see. It only shows that when you find the right person for you that you can be yourself. They were so sweet and cute together. They had me cracking up so much with their jokes and then swooning with their love and sweetness.
Add to that the setting in Hawaii and Brooklyn and some interesting secondary characters, and you have a fun, hot, and romantic book in your hands that you will love reading.
This story is the second installment in the Brooklyn Boys and can be read as a stand-alone.
5 stars for Darren and Adam. We met them in Kevs story and yay for their own story! I am absolutely adoring the Brooklyn Boys series and the writer does an amazing job and we feel like we are there as Adam faves his fears. And come on fake boyfriend if written well and this is is a wonderful trope
