sweet book with great characters
Kelsie Rae has done a wonderful job with her debut book, Liv! This is a friends to lovers story with a heartbreaking twist. I highly recommend this book. It is well written with memorable characters and a it is a beautiful story. I am looking forward to what Kelsie has coming next.
Okay, this was fixin to be a 4 star read, because our H, Luke, is w/ another woman for the first part of the story. And it’s not detailed or anything, he & Liv are just friends – she has just suffered a loss & blessing all at once & he’s there, as a friend, to help her out. And he has a GF already when they reconnect. But, here’s where my issue comes to play – he claims to still be in love w/ Liv. His thoughts are all about Liv. And yet he stays w/ his GF, and takes Liv up on her suggestion that his GF STAYS OVER while Liv is living there.
Again, this is not a steamy, over-sexualized story. But I just couldn’t respect Luke for a bit there. I can’t wrap my head around having sex in the next room knowing the woman you love can hear you. Nope.
NOW, on to why this became a 5+ star read for me.
The writing style is fun and refreshing. The story itself is w/in a couple particular tropes, but also feels unique and is told well from both POV’s. And once Luke realizes that his love for Liv is not going away, and that maybe – just MAYBE there is a chance for them, he is ALL IN. I once again believed in the love he has for Liv. And Liv! Despite her complete cluelessness about some things, I really enjoyed her character. I think she handles all the hurdles and choices thrown at her really well and mostly believably, and I just enjoyed the hell (I mean heck! LOL) out of her personality.
And goodness the last couple chapters & epilogue – SO GOOD! This was a highly enjoyable story, and I recommend it as long as my issue mentioned above won’t bother you to the point of not being able to enjoy the story. It was touch & go for me a bit w/ that, but I’m so glad I pushed through it to read their story! And I’m looking forward to reading the next book about Luke’s sister, Breezy. <3 : )
3.5 stars
I love this kind of books, sort of a forbidden love.
Luke was the sweetest. I loved him. Although he was too good to be true, everything he passed through was so relatable.
I enjoyed the pace of the story, it was believable to me given the situation. It was emotional, sweet and so daring, all at the same time. I just have the feeling of needing something more to wow me.
