4 1/2 STARS….
This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. Little Morning Star by Erin Bedford and May Sage is the first book in their Wicked Crown Trilogy. This is an interesting twist to the Lillith and Lucifer mythology. Angels and demons alike are searching for the Heir to the Throne of Hell. The question is what they will do to her once she has been found. Lily Star Morgan is a young witch whose life as an outsider is about to take a left turn. This fun and slightly sexy read is a great anytime escape into a world on the brink of hosting an epic good vs evil showdown. Where what you think is good and what you think is evil may just leave you questioning what you thought you knew. This book does not resolve, it sets up for the next book… When Hell Freezes Over.

Heaven and Hell at it again!
This was an enjoyable paranormal read with good writing and plot. Filled with action, intrigue, romance and many surprises along the way.
Angels and Demons clash over Lily Star Morgan whose secret origins will soon be revealed.
Lily is unaware of her family history but has always known and felt different.
Looking forward to more revelations (no pun intended) and the romance between Lily and Roth aka Astaroth notching up even higher. HFN as the story will continue in forthcoming books.

Apart from the fact that this cover is incredibly beautiful, I was also quite curious to read a story like this cowritten by Erin Bedford. So, when I could get this book on BookSprout I didn’t hesitate. And after reading this book, and knowing that a big part of it is by May Sage, I’m really curious to check out more of her books too! I love how that works. How I get into the work by one author and discover new authors because of that.
The first thing that stands out in this book is the plot. Although we don’t get to see much of the bigger story arc that will surely span over the entire series, we do feel very clearly that there’s something going on, something big, something that can change everything. It’s amazing how this knowledge and promise keeps the tension and excitement in this book. There’s constantly a sense of danger, even during those moments the danger is not actively there.
On top of that I really enjoyed the world building and mythology. I’ve read quite a lot about angels, demons, heaven, hell and such and yet this interpretation of the lore felt really original and fresh. There were a few really nice details making the world and mythology quite unique. Since our heroine has to learn everything from scratch, it feels very natural for the other characters to explain things to her and therefore to us. I can’t wait to see the places we’ve heard about now and I can’t wait to meet all the characters involved.
And last but not least there are the characters. I would have loved to see a little more of Ash and Raven, but Lily is such a lovely character to follow. She has something kind and endearing and in a way also timid, and yet she doesn’t feel spineless. It’s not that hard to believe that she has quite a lot of power and only has to learn how to use it. In a way she feels a little naive at times, but considering her upbringing I understand that part. And then there’s Roth. I have the feeling there’s a lot more story to tell when it comes to Roth and I can’t wait to get to know him much better. He seems quite charming and protective at least.
Wow-I wasn’t sure what to expect from this story, but I was blown away by the world-building in this first book! The mystery and secrets that everyone around Lily is keeping from her is amazing! I am sure that when she finds out things are going to explode! I can’t wait for the second book in the series and to see how much more sensual torture Lily and Roth are able to endure before they break themselves!

“Little Morning Star” the first book in the “Wicked Crown Series” by May Sage and Erin Bedford is a great UF story that put a brand-new twist into the angel/demon mythology.
Lily Star Morgan has been raised by witches and handled like a catastrophe waiting to happen all her life. Lily is Lucifer daughter, daddy dearest and his brothers (Michael and Gabriel) came to Earth in the onset of humankind and decided to experiment to create the perfect woman (Lilith) creating shifters, vampires and witches in the process. As Lucifer married Lilith the brothers’ threesome disintegrated, with Lucifer, Lilith and Lily essence trapped into the Underworld for ages, until Lilith managed to broke Lily out and put her in the fosterage of a witches’ coven. Twenty years later Lily have enough of the coven’s ‘care’ and decides to go to New York, to NYU to be exact, where obviously she doesn’t really fit, but Lily is determined to stay at all cost, and goes through the motions, trying to find her own way in an alien environment, after all she didn’t fit with the coven anyway. The encounter with a group of supernatural is the catalyst that enables her to find out about her own provenance and her power.
The story is interesting and well-written, with a carefully crafted background story embedded into a paranormal urban fantasy story that blends mythology and folklore with teenager angst and coming-of-age elements into a satisfying action-filled page-turner that keeps the reader entertaining from beginning to end. Already looking forward to the next installment “When Hell Freezes Over”
