This is a sad, sad book. It dwells on the cruelties inflicted on the Walker children as they are reared by parents who have been badly damaged by their own childhoods. It breaks my heart to think that any child has had to live through these horrors. Thankfully, YAYAS IN BLOOM is more upbeat and hopeful. Maybe there is hope for the Walker …
I wish that I had read this book before its sequel, “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood”. Richer, darker and deeper than the second book or the movie, this book truly is a ‘must’ read if you want to understand the Walker family, especially the mystery who is Viviane “Vivi” Abbot Walker.

This book gave further insight into the family Ya-Ya Sisterhood main character. Although the book deals with emotional and physical abuse, there is redemption in how emotional support and time can help ease the pain. The characters and their relationships drew me in and stayed in my mind long after I finished the book.
This and Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood are 2 of my alltime favorite books!
A great follow-up to the Ya Ya Sisterhood. Inventive and a joy to read
To be fair I only saw the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and did not read the book. But I loved it, so I assumed I would live this as well. Sadly, I couldn’t stand another minute of it and abandoned ship about halfway through.
