The state police and FBI are baffled when an old man and a teenage girl are brutally murdered. The blind Navajo Listening Woman speaks of ghosts and of witches. But Lieutenant Leaphorn of the Navajo Tribal Police knows his people as well as he knows cold-blooded killers. His incredible investigation carries him from a dead man’s secret to a kidnap scheme, to a conspiracy that stretches back more … more than one hundred years. Leaphorn arrives at the threshold of a solution—and is greeted with the most violent confrontation of his career.

I very much enjoy the series started by Tony Hillerman and continued by his daughter Anne. The characters are interesting and their adventures are not the usual police/crime series.
I loved all of Tony Hillerman books and am sad he has passed away. Learning about native American culture and ideas is interesting and the plots are surprising while being realistic. The characters are always interesting. Many of the characters return in later books.
I have loved all of the Hillerman novels – by both father and daughter.
Tony continues to be in a class by himself when it comes to the four corners..
Tony Hillerman is always an enjoyable read. I really enjoy his descriptions of the landscape of the southwest.
Typical Tony Hillerman with all the actions and answers coming at the end. Would have enjoyed more character development.
Hillerman s descriptions of the terrain and characters never ceases to entertain the reader. Another good one
all of Tony Hillerman books are great mystery and you learn a lot about Navajo culture.
If you like books about Native Americans theses are the best books I have read on this subject. Well written and keeps your attention all the way.
Whenever I read anything by Tony Hillerman I know I should be ready to be surprised and educated. When you think you really know what is about to happen… better think again. Thank you Tony.
Hillerman’s books are always wonderful.
I love anything Tony Hillerman wrote.
A gripping story. Leaphorn’s investigative style is on full display. Lots of plot twists that I won’t describe so as not to spoil the fun. More action packed than other Hillerman books I have read, but, as always, filled with Navaho lore and Southwestern geology. A wonderfully entertaining writer.
Wonderful and interesting read.
I enjoyed this book.
Too much unrelated fill-in
Another great Tony Hillerman novel.
I loved this book and all the Tony Hillerman books. Great reading, a great loss for book lovers everywhere.
Excellent reading of Southwestern area of US.
I’ve long been a fan of Tony Hillerman and the Leaphorn and Chee novels. Like Hillerman himself, I would prefer to live next door to Leaphorn, and find Chee a test of my patience, so I particularly enjoy reading books like Listening Woman that focus on Leaphorn.
There isn’t as much that is specific to the Navajo culture in this volume as some of …
