Englishman Lake Benson loaned his life savings to his dippy sister so that she could buy a shop. It was a big mistake. His sister has been steadily flushing his money down the drain – and now he wants it back. Years in the special forces taught Lake that if you want a job done, do it yourself. So he steps in to make the shop profitable, sell it and get his money back. The only problem is, the … business is an underwear shop. And all Lake knows about underwear can be summed up in how fast he can unsnap a bra. To make matters worse, the tiny highland town already has a lingerie shop. A successful one, run by an ex-lingerie model. A very gorgeous ex-lingerie model, who’s distracting him from his mission more than he’d like to admit. If Lake wants to get his savings back, and get out of Scotland, he only has one option – wipe out the competition.
Kirsty Campbell has spent years rebuilding her life after she woke up in hospital in Spain to find her body scarred, and her ex-fiance had run off with all her money. The last thing she needs is a cocky, English soldier-boy trying to ruin all she has left. Her home town is only too happy to help her fight the latest English invasion, although Lake is beginning to sway them with his sex appeal and cut price knickers. With the help of her mother, and the retired ladies of Knit or Die, Kirsty sets about making sure that her shop is the last one standing in Invertary.
It’s Scotland versus England as you’ve never seen it before. It’s lingerie war

This book is an amazingly funny, well written book. With crazy characters, romance all set in Scotland. So on a snowy winter day wrap up grap a hot drink and fall in love like I did with these characters and this series.
There are no bad points in this book. The little town in Scotland is fully realized, pacing is on point, plot is cute, characters are delightful, and everything is tied in beautifully by solid writing.
Great story! Must read for romance lovers.
3.5 bumped to 4 stars. This is my first read from Ms Henderson. I’m sure it won’t be my last. Lingerie Wars is a fun start to the Invertary series. It’s set in the small town of Invertary, Scotland, and comes complete with an English invasion in the form of one Lake Benson.
Lake suffered a midlife crisis, quit the Army, and bought a lingerie shop. Well, to be fair, the shop was bought for his sister, Rainne, but after six months it’s pretty clear that she can’t run it worth a darn and he’s got to step in if he doesn’t want to lose everything. Plus, there’s a security business that he’s looking forward to starting with an army buddy and he needs the money he invested into the lingerie shop. Before he can sell it, he’s got to get it showing a profit.
Kirsty Campbell is a hometown girl who made it big as a lingerie model, but now she’s home trying to rebuild her life after her snake of an ex left her, in the hospital no less, after stealing all her money. She knows lingerie, she just has to figure out how to make a different end of the lingerie business work for her. Did I mention that the lingerie shop Lake owns is right across the street?
And thus begin the lingerie wars. This book is a fun, zany, and often laugh-out-loud start to a series that looks to be pure entertainment.
I really wanted to like this book, I figured I’d be a great light read with some funny characters and hijinx but sadly I was disappointed. Two feuding lingerie shops. One run by a former lingerie model and the other an ex military man helping his sister get the shop off the ground. Of course sparks fly but in a way that makes them fizzle instead of sizzle . Betty is however a great character and steals the show whenever she walks in the room. All in all the book felt pages too long and the ending seemed a rushed after thought. Too much cake not enough cream.
The Invertary loonies are at it again! I can’t believe Ms. Henderson’s sense of humor. Her characters are off-the-wall crazy. I’ve had so many laugh out loud moments. A truly enjoyable read.
Great story-line, with crazy but fun characters. A page-turner from start to finish!
The leading man is a sexist abusive bully. This is not romantic. It’s scary. Abusive bullies should never be romanticized.
Janet Elizabeth Henderson’s characters are feisty, funny and make me wish I lived in the Scottish Highlands.
This book tried to be too many things. It was not enjoyable.
I liked this more than I thought it would despite the hero being the kind of man who does what he wants regardless of the needs of others. I kept waiting for him to ‘wake up’ and get past his big, self-centered, mission-oriented ego. I’m not sure he actually does. However, the heroine, the supporting cast of quirky small-town characters, and the amusingly outlandish events of the plot kept me reading and enjoying the book. The author is adept at characterization, plot, and humor, and that goes a long way to making this book a fun rom-com which would actually make a pretty good movie.
Underwear retailers across the street from each other makes a good humourous story.
this author always makes me laugh.
If you want a funny, romantic and entertaining book to read, pick this one up! I have read all the stand alone books in this series. You will fall in love with the town and the quirky citizens of this Scottish village!
Can two people on a mission to make their lingerie shop the best one in a small, quaint Scottish town fall in love? I thoroughly enjoyed Lake and Kirsty’s romance. Lake is a special guy despite his desire to beat Kirsty at her own game (selling lingerie). He gives Kirsty the time and space she needs to fall in love with him. **SWOON**. Several of the supporting characters are hilarious adding to this quirky, endearing story.
I enjoy this writer’s books. Love the location of Scotland and the characters.
The “evil” Betty is a scream!! I was laughing out loud.
Mildly humorous with happy ending, but you could see the ending coming allmost from page 1.
It was a cute story.
This story is so full of entertaining lines I even laughed out loud. Truly funny and entertaining reading. You will enjoy
