Senior year can’t come or end fast enough for Amelia Campbell. For the shy, nerdy girl-next-door that she is, high school is torture and all she wants is for it to be over. Having her heart broken by a popular, womanizing boy all those years ago doesn’t help the matters. Nor does his best friend who still has a habit of mercilessly teasing her. Now, she only has one year left, one year to be … invisible before she can move on with her life.
Derek King doesn’t do drama, but his life is all about drama once Maximillian Sanders steps foot into his town, his school, and into Amelia’s life. Max is always around, and he is making her smile again. But the boy who once broke her heart isn’t ready to let her go. Older and wiser, Derek isn’t about to let someone take away what he wants, and he wants Amelia.
She’s set on not believing in him and on not getting her heart broken once again. He is set on showing her wrong.
She says she hates him, but maybe the line between past and present, love and hate is thinner than she ever realized.

LINES (Greyford High 1)

3.5
Release Date November 23, 2018
This YA book by Anna B. Doe is full of angst. What else would you expect from a story set in HS?!
“We’re like two lost souls. Searching to find something that’s been missing for a while.”
Derek is the typical HS jock who secretly harbours feelings for his childhood crush Amelia. Derek was popular and basically watch his friends make Amelia’s life hell at school without intervening. She carried so much hatred for him.
“Because the line between love and hate is thin, so-fucking-thin. And I love you more than I hate you.”
Amelia kept to herself until a chance encounter with a stranger. The guy ended up becoming her friend which made Derek jealous. He decided enough was enough and made his feelings and intentions known to Amelia.
“You can hate me all you want, little one. I’ll stand in the other side of the line and love you with the same strength and fierceness.”
I enjoyed all the HD drama and angst. The hero and heroine were great and were super sweet together. Oh how I adored Derek when behind closed doors with Amelia. The secondary characters were well written. I’m looking forward to their stories.
The push-pull, love-hate was spot on. What is a YA book without it? I recommend this book if you are looking for an angst filled, hs drama with great characters.
Lines is a story about “..the line between love and hate being thin..”
Lia thought her hatred toward Derek King was mutual since they were both eight years old. Now years later, and their last year of high school, she just wants to be invisible and get through to graduation. But lo and behold, in breezes a new student whose association with her makes her the centre of attention, especially of the King of Hockey of Greyford high.
As his last name suggests, Derek is the King. He is the captain of the Wolves, plays centre field and is looking forward to bringing home the trophy. Hockey is his life, and along with his best friend Andrew Hill, they rule the school. He is the typical jock, scoring goals, scoring girls and the life of the party. But in all that, one thing was a constant in his life – Amelia Campbell. And when that constant is threatened, he has to step up, take notice and find a way to cross that thin line between love and hate.
This is a sweet story of two people and misunderstanding, and boys being boys. There are secondary characters with issues that need exploring (hopefully in their own books), but in no way detract from the core issues between Lia and Derek. The writing flows beautifully and the dial POV shows what both characters are feeling.
I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a sweet read that will make your heart feel happy.
Seriously the cutest, most heartclenching book ive read as of yet.If this doesnt bring you back to those teen days..to your first love idk what will…i swear lia is me..the fuzzy sock love, gilmore girls reruns(i rewatch it every fall..Lorelei is my spirit animal)This book is everything!!!!With every chapter you fall deeper and deeper in love with each and every character but most of all derek and lia..A cuter high school couple has never existed…Filled with young love, heartbreak and teen angst this book will have your stomach filling with youthful butterflies..Classy and heartwarming romance with a hint of that teen dram..Cant wait to read Andrew and Jeanettes..please please please tell me max and brook get a book?!
Super cute and sweet YA romance that takes place during senior year in high school. This makes me miss my high school days!
Every character in this story brought something to the table, and I loved that! I really loved the closeness and friendship between Amelia and Brook, and I’m dying to know more about Brook, her life and why she is the way she is. I also really like Max and Jeanette, even though she can be a stubborn one!
And of course, I adore Derek and Amelia! This really is a perfect feel good YA romance that has the perfect amount of angst (without going overboard) and some drama, again without having too much! So like I said, perfect!
If you’re looking for a feel good, makes you smile from ear to ear book, this is it!
This book is adorable and heartwarming YA sports romance
I really liked the story it was very nice and quick to read. Even though I wanted to scream at Lia sometimes I loved her love for books and Harry Potter and her “My weekend is all booked” hoodie AND THOSE DOGGIES OMGGGG! But truly I fall in love with Jeanette she reminded me of April from Parks and Rec and I can’t wait for her story
Love, Hate or Both?
This was my first book by this author and I was not disappointed.
This second chance romance takes you on a wild ride of emotions with two high school seniors. Its full of hardships, heartache, hate, love and new beginnings.
How thin is the line between love and hate? Read Amelia and Max’s story and see how thin that line is for them.
While this was an enjoyable read, it didn’t really spark any emotion or connection in me. It was a pretty standard teen angst story, but it seems like the feelings and storyline are just from the surface and it didn’t necessarily dig deep into the characters or their feelings. I did enjoy that the story flowed well and it did have a level of entertainment in the secondary characters – I was dying to know what was going on with Brook and Andrew’s home lives, in addition to what was going on with Jeanette. I anticipate that I will enjoy their stories more than Derek and Amelia’s as their story was a pretty standard high school love story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The story takes place in the present, it can be read from changed point of view; the two protagonists are Derek & Amelia. In addition, we are gotten an insight into the lives of four other supporting characters. The story contains all the features of the romantic genre, and I think I would classify it in the second-chance romance genre.

Lines by Anna B. Doe is book one of the Greyford High series. It is full of high school drama, the misunderstanding of young love, witty banter and old grudges. Maybe the line between love and hate is thinner than anyone ever realized.
Derek King is used to having all the perks of popularity and wealth. He has no problem getting the attention of girls, but there is only one that has caught his interest. He’s made sure that no one else will notice her.
Amelia ‘Lia’ Campbell loves nothing more than to have her nose in a book or to be doing her homework with her best friend. She enjoys being invisible, it’s her safety blanket. Her peers at school mostly ignore her unless they’re tormenting her.
Maximillian ‘Max’ Sanders starts at a new school and shakes things up. He is immediately drawn to the beauty that is Lia. He can’t fathom why the other students treat her with such disdain. That is until he notices the way Derek looks at her like nothing else exists. He sees something precious to be appreciated and decides to do something about it.
It’s the first day of senior year and Lia is already counting down the days ‘til graduation. The rivalry between Max and Derek is immediate and quickly becomes heated whenever Lia is involved. So used to being the butt of jokes Lia doesn’t know what to make of the new kid Max. He’s kind, considerate and quite stubborn. Tensions run high and the waters at school are murky at best. Can they make it to graduation with their hearts intact?
The story is fast paced and an emotional whirlwind. We get to see the story from Lia and Derek’s POV. Seeing their motivations and how their minds work, adds a great depth to the characters. There’s a passion that burns just beneath their skin. A mere kiss sets it free. No matter how hard they try, there is no denying the connection they share and fight as they might, they may never break free. The drama of youth and the doubts that plague their minds make for a fun and entertaining read.
This was a nice quick read. It was full of drama and humor, and kept me entertained. It was very relatable to me. I enjoyed it. .
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
I devoured this book!! It hooked me from the first page and I couldn’t put it down!! Love/hate and redemption stories are one of my favorite tropes and this book is one of the best. Derek and Amelia are fantastic characters! The subject of bullying and peer pressure are covered very well. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!! Derek is definitely going in my harem!!
This is a cute YA Sports story. I know this is going to be part of a series, so I can’t wait to see who is next. Overall there were many layers to this story, the writing was amazing, and I really liked the characters and some great secondary characters…I’m looking at you Max.The interaction of the characters was amazing, it really kept this story moving as a page turner, and I couldn’t see what was going to happen next. This story was told in dual pov.
Lines is a quick, mature YA romance. It’s also enemies to lovers. I found it to be low drama, fun, funny in parts. The characters are all interesting and I would love to know more about them, and hopefully I will be able to read about them in coming books in the series. I read this book really quickly.
Amelia is a little bit of a nerd, girl next door type girl. She isn’t part of that in crowd. She kind of reminds me of myself as a high school student actually. I can relate to her in a lot of ways.
Derek is a jock, and is popular like all jocks are. He only starts playing for Amelia when Max enters the picture. Dereks friends are not exactly nice to Amelia. I would have like to have seen him stick up for her a little better. I was disappointed in how he acted in some scenes.
This book held my interest and I never got bored reading it. I would really like to know more about this series and who is next! I want to know all of Brook’s secrets because I think she has a lot that are not going to be pretty! I look forward to discovering more
Lines – Greyford High book 1 By Anna Doe
5++ Stars
Lines is really really amazing!! Loved every second of this story! So beautiful! Very well written! Loved the characters! Really kept my interest. Felt like I was back in high school. It brought back a lot of memories with the drama and the emotions.
“The line between love and hate is thin. Thinner than one strand of hair. Thinner than paper. Thinner than petal of a flower.”
VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! F*** LOVED IT!!
Derek and Amelia push and pull from beginning to end was everything. They were sort of enemies to lovers kind of relationship. Derek broke her heart once and Amelia wanted nothing to do with him. Amelia was the only one that made Derek heartbeat with wanting more; the only girl worthy of introducing to his parents. Enter their senior year. Amelia thought she was invisible especially to Derek but that wasn’t the case; especially when the new guy seems to be interested in her also. Let the drama and the jealousy begin.
These two had a complicated relationship. Derek best friend seem to always bullied Amelia and Derek did nothing. She was also insecure and didn’t know how gorgeous she was. She drew so much attention that she wasn’t even aware of it. When Derek finally got his girl back ,which by the way was not a walk in the park, he wasn’t going to let anyone or anything mess it all up.
The secondary characters played a huge roll in this story and I can’t wait to read more on these crazy teenagers especially the Sanders twins and Brook.
Lines is the perfect YA book. It’s sweet and saucy and keeps you wanting more. Her build of the main couple has you fighting for them to the end. She does a great job with the side characters as well and makes me excited to read the rest of this series when it releases. Great job Anna!
Lia never expected her senior year to start with a broken down car, but it does. She also didn’t think she would get a ride to school on the back of the new kid’s motorcycle, and then end up walking to homeroom with him. This proceeds to start a whole new journey and changes the senior year that Lia had planned to something completely different. When Derek sees the new kid with his hands on Lia, jealousy is all Derek can feel. It seems that now is the time to make a statement, and make sure that Lia becomes his.. but only if he can get Lia to trust him.
I am not really a big fan of YA romance, I prefer there to be naughty bits with my romance. BUT, this was a really good story and I couldn’t put it down. This was a very enjoyable read filled with drama and I am looking forward to the next book. I give this 4.5 stars.
I received an advanced/review copy of this book. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content and honesty of my review.
This was a cute, sweet story about shy, emotionally withdrawn Amelia and popular, king of the ice Derek. There’s plenty of friction and sexual tension within this book. I enjoyed the story, even if I did feel like it fell a bit flat in certain places. I also was a bit more team Max than team Derek, though I have a feeling the author has a plan for Max.
