Senior year can’t come or end fast enough for Amelia Campbell. For the shy, nerdy girl-next-door that she is, high school is torture and all she wants is for it to be over. Having her heart broken by a popular, womanizing boy all those years ago doesn’t help the matters. Nor does his best friend who still has a habit of mercilessly teasing her. Now, she only has one year left, one year to be … invisible before she can move on with her life.
Derek King doesn’t do drama, but his life is all about drama once Maximillian Sanders steps foot into his town, his school, and into Amelia’s life. Max is always around, and he is making her smile again. But the boy who once broke her heart isn’t ready to let her go. Older and wiser, Derek isn’t about to let someone take away what he wants, and he wants Amelia.
She’s set on not believing in him and on not getting her heart broken once again. He is set on showing her wrong.
She says she hates him, but maybe the line between past and present, love and hate is thinner than she ever realized.

I have to say as a young adult book I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I do wish we had steamier moments between the main characters but that’s just me. I thought Derek was a jerk because he has had a crush on Amelia since they were little, but he has let his friends bully her and not stopped it for so long that he has let her slip through his hands. She has no interest in him any longer, well that’s what she likes to tell herself because she finds it hard to resist Derek and I think she wants to believe deep down he is a good guy and he really is but, he has let his immature friends dictate way too much of his behavior. When Derek finds out that she is interested he sets out to make himself a better man with the intentions of her being his. The push and pull kept me interested throughout the whole book and I adored Max as he became a great friend for Amelia to lean on. The things I didn’t like was Brook and Jeanette, these two have their own issues but the way they took their attitudes out on everyone else was annoying and disgusting. Brook was to me the worst friend Amelia could have and I know she comes from a bad home life, but she acts like she gets to dictate everything Amelia says and does, and that was beyond frustrating. I hope when I get to her story, we get to see the reasons why she is this horrible person even if she thinks she is helping a friend out. Friends don’t behave that way towards each other, yes they do help and give their advice yet Brook was just demanding and dictating their every move if I was around her I don’t think I could be friends with her especially when even Amelia knows nothing of Brook’s background just small things here and there. Also, yea the boys are said to be immature but what do we expect when they are immature boys in high school who don’t know how to handle their feelings or situations too well and they will act that way until they are forced to learn from their behavior like Derek does. Overall good read I just really wished it had more mature scenes with Derek and Amelia so that we could feel their attraction and passion. Great read but I really wanted some sexy and steamy moments with these two because I loved Derek and thought it would bring more to their story.
Amelia is the shy nerdy girl who has been constantly bullied by all the popular kids. And Derek was the king of the school that didn’t stop anyone from making fun of Amelia. When Max shows up and starts giving attention to Amelia, Derek tries to tell them both to back off but what he really needs to do is step up.
I was confused. Amelia kept saying Derek broke her heart but the only thing I remember was an incident when they were 8. So was that the heartbreak? Doesn’t add up to me. And Derek was a bit of a jerk and I am not sure he ever really redeemed himself. While I never felt the urge to walk away I just didn’t fully connect with either of the characters, didn’t really see/feel their connection. Wasn’t bad just not for me I guess.
This book was so good!!! Like I have no words to explain how good this was. I could not stop reading it once I started and it was a bad timing cz I started it at 11pm and could not close it till 1am or so. Had to force myself to close the book so I could get some sleep!!! It was that good.
TBH, this was the second book I read in the series but it’s the first one. And I think I made the right decision else I would have hated Andrew
.
Amelia and Derek knew each other since they were kids and she was bullied by both more by Andrew tho. And when in high school 2 new student join, and one catches feelings for Amelia, Derek’s jealousy starts to surface and he tries to win Amelia.
Derek was kind of an asshole to her, he didn’t stop Andrew from bullying her but also felt bad for her and makes up for it later on. Amelia was strong in her opinion and I love them both
This story was a sports romance and love that trope so it had me hooked.
I was excited to start this book and let me just say it definitely lived up to its excitement. I absolutely adore Anna B Doe’s books and her characters entirely. Its literally like watching a hallmark movie, but its all on pages that you read. You get the magical feeling of hope that there is love in the world.
Lines is an enemies to lovers story with the main characters Derek and Amelia. These two I love. I love the shyness and the timid personality Amelia has. I also love Derek’s attitude. Yes, there were plenty of times I wish I could tell Derek to get over himself and just be the good guy. These two have had a rough past full of bullying and being on different social levels in high school. They show how difficult it is in high school to over come the idea of groups and being categorized in popularity.
I absolutely love this story and think everyone should read it. I can’t wait to continue to read more of the Greyford High world. I have a feeling its going to quickly become one of my favorite series.
This was my first book by Anna B. Doe and I loved it. It was a sweet, swoony romance with just enough angst thrown in to keep me turning the pages. The characters grabbed me immediately and I can’t wait to read the other books in this world. The plot was a quick pace and I could not put it down. I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone.
“The line between love and hate is thin. Thinner than one strand of hair. Thinner than paper. Thinner than the petal of a flower.”
Lines is the first book in this series and my first read from the author. This is a contemporary, YA story with bully romance and told in multiple POV.
It’s the story of Lia and Derek, who have known each other since they were kids. She is your shy girl, likes to keep to herself and always trying to blend in. Lia is in her senior year and can’t wait to escape and go to college. She wanted to get away from the bullies of her school, mostly due to Derek and his bestfriend’s doing, Andrew.
Derek has always noticed Lia. He liked her so much since they were young but he was scared that he will be teased about it by his friends, so he hid it from everyone. He tried to cover it by teasing her mercilessly. But when a new kid came to their school and seemed to pay attention to Lia, he found himself a competition. And he is not one to share.
The author did the high school angst real good and setting up this world for the other characters that will have their own book. This was a pretty good read and brings back high school memories for me. A sweet, enjoyable read and highly recommends it to YA readers.
Rules does a beautiful job putting all the pieces together in the Greyford High Series. All three books are stand-alones but you REALLY need to experience all of them. SO AMAZING!
Brook and Max might be my favorite couple. I have said that with each new book in this series and totally mean it. Sigh. These two took me on an emotional ride. It is crazy how I get choke up thinking about them.
The injustice and horrible childhood Brook experienced makes me want to sob. Her need to harden herself and not trust gets explained as this story continues. Her saving grace was her friends but even that she didn’t trust to last.
Max as the perceived golden boy, shines especially when you feel his love for his twin sister.
Max and Brook have this amazing love/hate thing going, bring a realness to this story. Wink! They fight it but boy are they spicy together.
All kinds of revelations occur as you travel down this story’s telling. My heart breaks several times and I want to hurt a couple characters that don’t deserve the amazing children they have.
Love how all my questions are answered in this book. So worth the wait, tying all the Greyford stories together. Definitely 5 star worthy. Happy Reading Everyone! XOXO
Lines is Amelia Campbell and Derek King’s story. It is a YA sports romance full of drama, rivalries, and hockey. Amelia is set on not getting her heart broken ever again but her walls start falling down once Derek decides he will stop at nothing to prove to her he’s not a bad guy anymore. With Max Sanders giving Amelia attention and always around Derek loses it. Derek has to change to get what he wants. Amelia hates him but the line between love and hate in there relationship is becoming thin.
Will Derek end up letting Amelia down and breaking her heart again?
A 5 star read for me.
Anna B Doe really knows how to tell addictive romance stories with wonderful characters. I absolutely loved Lines.
Derek and Amelia
Senior year is here. Amelia has always been in the background. Always the one people seem to run into or rip accidentally. Especially Derek and his friends. When new guy Max shows up and shows an interest in Amelia, Something shifts– especially within Derek. He finds it extremely hard to contain the emotion we call Jealousy. Emilia’s dynamics at school change. Find out why Derek and Amelia have kept their distance from one another. Find out how friendships and relationships can be defined by a thin line. I truly enjoyed this book and can not wait to read more about GHS.
This is a really sweet YA/ Sports romance which is book 1 in the Greyford High series. Amelia ‘Lia’ Campbell is the sweet, shy, girl next door who has been crushing on Derek King forever only to be bullied by him and his friends. Derek is the quintessential high school king, captain of the hockey team and all-round gift to the women. Even though Derek has a thing for Amelia, he isn’t willing to take the risk against losing his best friend and also apologising for the way he has treated her for so long. This all changes when a new boy comes to school ready, it seems to claim Amelia’s heart.
This is a slow burn romance and has quite a lot of characters that you have to follow (all of which will have their own book). Oh, to be a teenager again! There is definitely a lot of teenage angst, sarcasm, emotions and moodiness in this book, but also great friendships, good parents and some dogs thrown into the mix (I love the dogs!) It is a feel-good book which has a HEA between a nerd and a jock (very Breakfast Clubby), but if that’s your thing, then you will totally enjoy this book!
ARC received for a fair and honest review.

Ok, the beginning of this book was not my favorite. I was so frustrated with the characters and thought about throwing my kindle a few times…but I kept reading and began to fall for Amelia, Max and Derek and all of their friends. I loved the strength of their friendships, the ties that everyone had from the “small town” vibe. Also seeing how the characters grew and matured throughout the story was heartwarming. I’m looking forward to the next book to see where the characters go from here, there were some hints along that way that not everything is what it seems and not everyone has a picture perfect life.
There’s a fine line between love and hate… Lia is a smart but quiet girl who prefers to stay in and hang out with her friends. Derek has always liked Lia but early on didn’t want to disappoint his friends so he started bullying her along with them. Two new kids move to town and the new guy starts showing Lia attention. This gets to Derek. It’s a now do I go against the grain of my friends to gain her attention or keep admiring her from afar.
Anna has good character development and you can feel how Derek gets to Lia. There is of course drama and angst as all good NA/ YA stories should have. I will definitely be reading the next book
A good read
A cute story. I agree with other reviewers that the book is in need of major editing. I can take some misspelling and small grammar issues, but the issues in this book detract from the flow of the story.
As far as the characters, They aren’t as developed as I would have liked. But the two change enough to make the happy ending believable and cute.
This is the first book I have read from this author. This was a sweet, drama filled, high school romance. The bad boy hockey player Derek has always had a crush on good girl Lia but has always ignored it and let his friends make fun of her. All that changes when a new student Max shows up and starts paying attention to her and he realizes if he doesn’t act he may lose her. This was an entertaining story about all the drama of high school. Loved the characters and can’t wait to read their story too.
“Because the line between love and hate is thin,” I murmur softly. “So-fucking-thin. And I love you more then I hate you.”
This is my first book by Anna and I enjoyed every single word.
I like her writing style. She drag me in the story so easy that I couldn’t stop reading till the end. I like that we got both point of view in one book, because I really love to know what the main characters think, what they feel, what or who they like/love.
This is lovely YA sports romance that introduces us with Amelia, sweet nerd girl who loves Harry Potter, TV shows, books and dogs. I completely find myself in her, even though I’m more cat person. And there is Derek the king of high school, he wants Lia only for himself, but he doesn’t know how to convince her that he loves her. I’m glad that Max shows up and mess his plans. He needed someone to shake him up and make him fight for a girl.
A very loveable YA story by Anna B Doe. This is the first time reading anything by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. Amelia is the nerdy girl that loved a jock and got her heart broken. She is also the one mean girls like to tease. Derek is the jock that feels like he has to show face in front of is friends but secretly he wants Amelia back and will do anything he can to convince her of that. When Max moved into town and stole Amelia’s attention, Derek was not impressed.
Great story and great characters, however, I wished Amelia stood up for herself a little more. I am looking forward to book two Habits!!
4.5 stars
The first book in this series and a great way to introduce all the friends and enemies.
Amelia is a shy and nerdy girl that wants nothing to do with her past, a past that includes Derek, the boy who played with her heart and broke it in a million pieces.
Once a new boy comes along in the play and Derek realises that he might lose Amelia for good, he starts to act and try to get her back ,but even if he gets what he wants as a jock and the most popular guy in the school, life is not that easy and Amelia has her own feelings and won’t give up that easy but as usual love has her own agenda and it will make a way in their hearts to find that happily ever after or at least a happy for now.
Can’t wait to read the next books in the series as the other characters are quite intriguing.
I hate/loved my trip back to high school with this story. Admittedly, I must have been under a rock when I was in school – so many of these themes just didn’t exist and I’m not THAT old. ha.
My desire to truly love the story was overwhelmed by my nitpicky (and not so nitpicky) issues with it. I don’t love that Amelia’s agency is constantly stepped on both by Derek and Max. It’s not sexy or dangerous to continue on after a girl says no. It’s not cute or sexy to be turned on by her refusal of you. There’s a thin line, to be sure, and these characters cross it with regularity and some of it just feels icky rather than ‘hard to get’.
That said – I like this world. I like these characters. I wish that the issues of consent were drawn with a bit more finesse, but it is what it is. Amelia is a character I struggle to relate to – she’s too much of a pushover for me to really love her. I felt overall apology and redemption for the hurt done to her by basically everyone was lacking as well.
I will be continuing on, but with the same concerns in the back of my mind.
I’m not a big fan of YA books, but I have to say that I really enjoyed this one! I like how Amelia & Derek were drawn to each other even though they had a rocky past. And I like that Drew had his realization that he was hurting both Derek & especially Amelia with his nasty attitude. I’m hoping we get to see Brook & Janette get books!
