I thought the story built nicely. Easy to see how the characters may develop in the future. Will read more of this author/series
Had good plot idea. Tedious movement. Characters not consistent with premise. Woman reporter in man’s world of 1880 journalism investigating friend’s death does not even read friend’s diary! Or follow up leads. I couldn’t believe how far I read before giving up. Guess I was desperate.
Just ok …. for some reason the plot location changes were not smooth & characters were stereotypical
It is a little unbelievable that a detective yard man would want a reporter to accompany them but I enjoyed the story and the ending was a surprise.
A tidy mystery that keeps you guessing.
Engaging characters and storyline. Heartily recommend?

Not a page turner but entertaining never the less.
Writing seems quite stilted, doesn’t flow nicely. But it’s interesting in a vague sort of way. Nice period detail.
I enjoyed reading this book. Surprise ending with a twist. The story unfolds slowly as the investigators do their work. Lots of red herrings. I’m still wondering how I missed the clues about the culprits. Pretty sure they were there, but my attention was elsewhere.
Sometimes an author gets lost in trying to do a novel set in a certain era, some achieve the balance of writing and intertwining the era, and the plot, sometimes not. At certain moments reading this I got the impression the mixture was just a bit off, and others it fit. Would I read this author again, yes, but would I go out of my way to search for another book by this author, no.
A good start to a new series. Interesting woman journalist fighting for women’s rights in the Victorian Era. Lots of twists and turns, and a bit of a surprise ending. All in all a good read.
really enjoyed this sweet book until the end. It just stopped. dead. I felt cheated. Then I realized that this is a lead in to another book. turned me off.
While I figured out the culprit pretty early on, (Hanse four stars instead of five) I nevertheless very much enjoyed the journey, and the unforeseen twist at the end. Looking forward to more in this series.
Surprising ending!
It’s a nice, unthreatening story of a murder. The twist? The victim has supposedly been dead for years. I enjoyed the book — good before-bed reading– but the dialog was a bit stilted, the action moved a little too slowly. The setting, late Victorian England, was well-described and nicely detailed.
Another piece of historical fiction with wonderful settings and atmosphere. Good characters!!
I admit that I approached this book with the same trepidation I approach all books that are part of a series, and especially Book 1. Sometimes the author is so involved in developing the protagonists lives’ and relationships with each other that the plot and those involved in it become secondary. (I wish BookBub had a “Satisfying Ending” for series which, by design leave the reader handing in one way or another to acknowledge this) However, the serial soap opera element doesn’t occur in Limelight. Set during the period when British women were struggling for equality, Elizabeth Organ portrays journalist Penny Green as a hard-working young woman trying to support herself. Unlike her sister, she has neither the time nor money to crusade for women’s rights. She has enough to do trying to work her way around the stumbling blocks created by a system that elevates not only men, but the wealthy of all classes. Following her adventures as she uncovers how her actress/courtesan/unlikely friend who supposedly drowned wound up newly dead in a cemetery five years later was truly a good read.
