Lily’s Homecoming Under Fire Calla Lily Mystery #1 by Anna Celeste Burke is the first book in a new series. I cannot wait to read more about Lily, the B&B, her friends and Austin. The bullets fly from page one in this exciting tale. I found the characters very engaging as well. There are many plot twists to keep the reader guessing. This is an exciting start to a new series.
Which Wine Goes Best with Murder?
Author Anna Celeste Burke is starting a new series with this novel which was introduced as her contribution to the 21-book “Love Under Fire” box set put together as a seasonal fundraiser for Pets for Vets. That box is no longer available but this story is.
Lily is literally under fire from the first sentence of the book! The family dynamics of dysfunction play a major role as an actress returns home to claim her inheritance. Action-packed and lots of humor! Looking forward to book 2 =o]
Lily’s Homecoming Under Fire by Anna Celeste Burke grabbed me from the first page and I didn’t put it down until I was finished.
Ms. Burke’s descriptive writing of the setting and the characters made me feel right at home. I loved Lily’s independence, intelligence and heart as the story reveals more of her aunt’s life that she missed while in Hollywood. The action was almost non-stop from the beginning and the reveal was both nail-biting and shocking. The fun seems to just be beginning for Lily since her gal pals, Melody, Zelda, Carrie and Julie from Hollywood showed up and I’m eager to read more about them. It’s probably a good thing that Lily’s Aunt Lettie had remodeled the home to be a bed and breakfast. The plot was tightly woven with just enough twists to keep me guessing. I can’t wait to know more about Lily, Austin, Judy and Jesse as this series progresses.
I originally read this book as part of the Love Under Fire boxed set. Readers familiar with Anna Celeste Burke’s books will love it.
Awesome Action Packed First in Series
Lily’s Homecoming Under Fire is the first book Anna Celeste Burke’s Calla Lily Mystery series. This book is a quick and easy read. The storyline is well plotted, the characters are well developed, and the mystery is intriguing. The characters in this fast-paced book are well developed and three-dimensional. Twists and turns, and red herrings and are abundant, and there’s no shortage of potential suspects to keep the reader engaged and guessing until the reveal. I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series and seeing how the characters and their relationships grow and develop.
Lillian “Lily” Callahan is an actress whose acting career took a nosedive, so when her aunt, Letitia “Lettie” Morgan, passes away she packs her bags and returns home to California’s wine country with Marlowe, her obedient and protective Miniature Pinscher. Lily went to live with her aunt when she was twelve-years-old and nicknamed her Calla Lily. Aunt Lettie’s attorney, Franklin Everett, arranged for Lily to stay in a local resort’s private cottage in the woods, but is moved to one of their hotel suites after hired hitmen try to kill her. Deputy U.S. Marshal Austin Jennings had been tracking one of the men, and while the cottage is a disaster, he manages to save her life. One of the responding officers is Denny Saunders, who was Lily’s first serious boyfriend. At the reading of Aunt Lettie’s Last Will and Testament, Lily learned that she not only inherited Aunt Lettie’s home, but also the majority of her estate, including the land the house was built on, her personal property, and the vineyards and her shares of the Calla Lily Vineyards and Winery, LLC. Her mother and three half-siblings weren’t thrilled, but her stepfather, Edward Callahan, and a non-family member, Alexander Davidson, who oversees the vineyards and winery’s financial matters, were more than a little discontent. There’s an instant and mutual attraction and chemistry between Lily and Austin, and they work well together trying to figure out who put a hit on her and why.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Great start to a new series. The book starts off with a bang and keeps on running. I enjoyed this book but thought the main Character Lily didn’t really do any investigating to solve the mystery she just reacted to the situations around her and everybody else brought her clues, so from that point of view the book was a little disappointing. The characters were fun and the plot complicated enough to stay interesting.without getting confusing, a lot of family members. I liked the unusual setting of the vineyard for a home and the author does a very good of describing it, so you have no problem picturing the story as it unfolds. I am off to start the next book so see what fun Lily and her friends find themselves in next.
Lily’s aunty has died and left her everything, as long as she lives long enough to hear the will reading. Her aunt owned a very profitable vineyard and this causes friction between the family, a family Lily is already estranged from. But could they really be the ones responsible for hiring the hitmen that attack her on her first night back? Lily’s aunt had made some changes since Lily last came home and had big plans to expand the business but there was also something rotten in the company and she was trying to weed it out. Was Lily’s aunts death a timely death for someone or was she helped along so she couldn’t find out someone’s secret? If Lily wants to stay a live she will gave to get to the bottom of who wants her dead and what really happened to her aunt. Then another body is found and everything leads back to the vineyard and Lily.
This is a fun read that starts with a bangup shooting and keeps the dead bodies coming in this wine country mystery.
Lily was an actress and is now home after inheriting her Aunt Letty’s estate. Before she can find out about the will, someone tries to kill her but Austin, handsome and playful saves the day. He proceeds to follow her and protect het as she finds out that Letty’s death might not be accidental.
Lily has good instincts after living and surviving as a soap star in Hollywood….she feels capable till she realizes her mother and stepfather are hoping to inherit from the will.
Her aunt’s best friend Judy is along for the adventure as is an old friend, Jessie, who is interested in Lily.
Between Marlowe, her dog, Judy and Austin, Lily has her work cut out solving murders, shootings and even a dead body in a wine vat!
This is funny, lively with quick witted dialogue. Won’t take anytime to read …great read on a busy day as you can pick up easily on plot and just relax.
