Felix and Jocelyn are from two different worlds, almost. Felix will eventually take his father’s seat in the Lords. Jocelyn’s father has a seat in the Commons. These two houses have never agreed and have had a contentious attitude towards any that don’t agree with their philosophy.
When Felix and Jocelyn first meet in London, there are sparks from their bantering, but the more time they spend together, the more their feelings change and the more time they want to spend together. When their secret meetings are discovered, Jocelyn is painted in a very poor light and Felix just wants to fix it for her because he has discovered that he never wants to be parted from her. Is it possible for these two to have a happy ever after or is this relationship doomed from the start?
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were wonderful and the way their attitudes changed and they could see both sides of the “aisle” had a great deal to offer was wonderful. Our country could use that philosophy today. This is also a clean romance with no foul language or sex scenes.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
I loved this story, it was so romantic and sensitive. When Lord Felix Lockhart, Earl of Sutby and heir apparent to the Marquess of Ramport, first saw Miss Jocelyn Hunt it was at a musicale. He had hoped to hear some good music but that was not his lot in life. They had gotten into an argument. She had run into him again at the hot house where flowers could be gotten. She loved flowers especially Lilies.
Her father was the Head of Commons and his dad was very influential in the House of Lords. They spent some time together at the hot house even though they didn’t need flowers at that time.
A beautiful tale of two very nice people getting to know each other and their differences. The author made you anxious to see what happened next. Her mother was desperately ill and the Doctor did not know if she would make it. But she wanted her beloved daughter married and settled. The words flowed along with the page and kept you coming back for more. The characters were beguiling and charming. I highly recommend this wonderful book.
I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
Overall, I give this a 4 star because I was able to stay engaged, I was curious how the h & H would resolve their issues and would they come together. I like family series and it was nice to see what happens to other members of the family. Lud & gads wasn’t used as much as in the 1st book & I appreciated that. I did still wish other words were used besides those two. I think the story was creative and original. The book showed pride can come from all sides. Those with title and the “common” people. The use of flowers in the story was nice as well.
Lily for my Enemy is a classic case of enemies who are inexplicably drawn to each other in spite of loathing each other.
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet romance. The characters are believable and like Miss Jocelyn, I found Felix Lockhart intriguing. But ideology, class, and prejudice get in the way of them ever being more than admirers.
Luckily for them, and us! Author LG Rollins is able to pull them together and close as others had tried to keep them apart.
I loved this book and how unlike Romeo and Juliet this one has a happy ending.
4.5 stars
This story had elements to it that I don’t often see in clean regency romance. At least not the ones I read. It was very much based in politics and the love interests are very much opposites in political beliefs. So it was fun to watch how they navigate those differences and then you also get a Romeo and Juliet element because the families of course hate each other. Their relationship seems doomed from the start.
I liked both characters and enjoyed their banter and the growth in their characters over the course of the book. I also liked that they actually had good relationships with their parents. The politics is the source of conflict here. Not a parent trying to use their child to better themselves or some such thing. They all believe that a man should agree with his potential father in law’s politics and yet love is a curious thing. It doesn’t care what your politics are. If it strikes, it strikes.
No sex, language or violence (except the epilogue which sets up the next book. Some violence has occurred but the reader doesn’t see it.)
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This book was received from the Author/Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved this story and I finished it in two days. Even though this is the second book in the Lockhart series it can be read as a stand-alone. So far it appears that each book will focus on a different sibling in the Lockhart family. This is A Proper Romance novel.
I really liked how this book wasn’t just about how the Lady wanted to be loved for more than her dowery or advantage of her family but how the Lord wanted to be more than his title. I love a good enemy’s to lovers story and watching this unlikely pair come together and helping each other grow was just amazing. I enjoy each interaction we get with the members of this family.
The epilogue sets up for the next book in this series and I can not wait for it. I can’t help but wonder if one of the loose ends in this book will be tied up in the next.
This is a great story that’ll have you rooting for Jocelyn and Felix. Jocelyn’s father is a member of Commons and Felix’s father has a seat in the House of Lords. Can two people with different political leanings and backgrounds find a way for romance? They both have obstacles to overcome, but isn’t romance a great motivator? I loved the characters and the interesting world they lived in. This is the second in this series and I enjoyed it as much as the first one!
I really enjoyed this second book in the Lockhart Regency Series. Miss Hart and Earl Sutby really shouldn’t have any reason to spend time together but their first conversation caused a spark of interest. On opposite sides of the parliament divide there’s trouble for both of them if they spend any time together but their ‘chance’ encounters are so enjoyable.
I enjoyed the characters and the depth of thought and the way they both developed through the course of the book. I was on the edge of my seat when love seems totally hopeless for them … no spoilers here so all I can say is I was much more relaxed at the end of the book.
I definitely recommend reading this book. It is best read after book 1 in the series but can be read as a standalone book.
Enjoyable read! This is the second book in the Lockhart series and although it can be read as a standalone, reading the first book provides more background to the characters. I really enjoyed this book as much as the first one! I loved how Felix and Jocelyn’s relationship grew and it was a very believable and natural progression. I also enjoyed watching Felix grow as a person throughout this novel. I am looking forward to the next book in the series! I would recommend this to anyone who like clean regency romances!
Regency romance is one of my favorite sub-genres of historical romances to read. I have said this often, but I love imagining what it was like back then. I have a fascination with the English ton, the Lords, and Ladies. So, when I saw that this book was available for review, I jumped on it.
Lily for My Enemy is the 2nd book in the Lockhart Sweet Regency Romance series. It can be read as a stand-alone. As always, I do suggest reading book one to familiarize yourself with the world. But in this book, the author did a great job of keeping the previous books characters in the background.
The plotline for Lily for My Enemy was medium paced. There was a bit of lag when Jocelyn went to the country, but the author was able to get the book back on track. I did notice that there was a dropped secondary storyline that involved someone paying the urchin to spy on Jocelyn and Felix and then put an unflattering article in the paper. It was never named who, and that storyline was dropped. I wish that it wasn’t. I wish that the person was named. I have a feeling who it was, but now I will never know.
I liked Felix’s character progression in Lily for My Enemy. At the beginning of the book, he was an immature boy who had little regard for people’s feelings. By the end of the book, he matured into a man who was willing to fight for the woman he loved. It was beautiful to read.
I loved Jocelyn. She wholeheartedly supported her father’s causes and his seat in the House of Commons. She viewed the House of Lords as something evil and corrupt (and she wasn’t wrong). I loved how she wasn’t afraid to go toe to toe with Felix. She was a spitfire, and I loved it.
Lily for My Enemy is a clean romance. There is no sex, and you know what, I enjoyed that. I enjoyed not reading a book that had only a couple of kisses in it.
The main storyline about Felix and Jocelyn’s romance had me on edge. I didn’t think it was going to go anywhere because of their father’s animosity towards each other. There was a point where I compared it to Romeo and Juliet. It was when their father’s found out, and the newspaper printed that article. My heart broke for both Felix and Jocelyn. But, I did admire Felix’s guts in going to Jocelyn’s father and asking for her hand in marriage. That took guts.
The end of Lily for My Enemy was your typical HEA. I cannot wait to read the next book!!!
This lovely story boasts witty banter and earnest characters you sympathize with. The conflict, that of being together seeming impossible, is well handled. The characters’ growth to deal with this challenge, as well as growing to fulfill their responsibilities, makes for a satisfying conclusion.
While the story is self contained, it is best when read as part of the series – references to minor characters’ backstories are sprinkled throughout.
To say Jocelyn had an unusual upbringing would have been an understatement. Her House of Commons father had no qualms discussing politics with his daughter. Felix is the heir apparent to an Marquise, but has never taken an interest in politics or following his father. Sparks fly in more ways than one. What do you do when the young lady you wish to pursue father refuses to allow you to court her? Felix does get creative. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading about Cassandra’s romance.
My favorite thing about L. G. Rollins’ book, A Lily for My Enemy, was the character’s ability to see past their own beliefs and listen to someone with a different viewpoint. I think the characters were well-written and showed diversity and strength of character. This was a sweet and clean love story between two people who started as political enemies. The progression of their relationship was lovely with a wonderful happy ending. Great book!
I received a complimentary copy of the book. All opinions are my own and are expressed voluntarily.
Such a fantastic regency romance! The writing is crisp, the characters are engaging, and the plot is unique. It has a great mix of humor and romance and the dialogue between the main characters is so refreshing. This is a clean and charming read – I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
Really nice regency era unlikely-friends to more story. This is one of those stories that shows how hard it was to live under the rules of such a structured society.
Lily for my Enemy was incredible! I really enjoyed the first novel I read in this series, Wager for a Lady’s Hand, but this book just blew me out of the water in delight. I loved Felix and Jocelyn and how even though they were on opposing sides to begin with, they didn’t compromise their core beliefs, but found a way to compromise and come together for everyone’s betterment. Oh man was their chemistry fantastic and I truly enjoyed how their relationship grew until suddenly they just knew that they were deeply in love with one another!
Seriously, this book was amazing and I cannot wait to read what comes next (hopefully Cassandra’s story). If you are a Regency romance fan you need to read this novel.
I LOVED this book. I stayed up till 2 A.M. to finish it. I enjoyed hearing about the Lords Vs. the Commons- I didn’t know much about them before reading this book. The characters were funny and relatable. It had a happy ending which I always want and also a intro to an upcoming book (I hope). I would recommend this book- it was a very good read.
