Holy cow!! This book was definitely not what I expected. I have to admit having the female mc be the bully was definitely different for me but Donna was so fierce and had to have control that I didnt think her and Hendrix would ever get along. All the twists and turns of this book had me on the edge of my seat!!!
Donna and Hendrix were at each other’s throats the entire read, but couldn’t step back from their mutual attraction to one another. I enjoyed the book but it didn’t wow me. Donna was a bully, despite knowing the pain and harm it could have on another person due to the way her cousin Mena had been treated in the previous book. She was reckless and immature in a lot of her actions/choices in Like You Hurt. I felt like she was so much smarter than her character behaved, which made it hard to enjoy her in this read.
Hendrix was a mess. The constant eluding to his “past” made it rather anti-climactic once it was finally revealed what exactly he was hiding. The tease of his bad choices seemed to pop up in every chapter which quite honestly became annoying. Just get to the point already!
I did enjoy the relationship that Donna and Hendrix formed. I enjoyed their willingness to open up to one another and I really liked seeing Donna finally stand up for herself and what she wanted. The read was fast paced and filled with all the angsty high school drama you’d expect.
Like You Hurt was an incredible read!
If you know me, and follow the blog, you know just how much I love these dark-bully, high school romances. Like You Hurt was certainly no exception. In fact, I adored every single element of this novel. It was beautifully written from beginning to end.
Donna and Hendrix are two characters that are the absolutely wrong person for the other. They are so incredibly different, and incompatible, and yet, you can’t help but want to keep reading to see if they end up together. You have this idea in your mind the entire time you are reading that you want them to fall hopelessly in love with each other.
I certainly enjoyed this novel, and I definitely encourage others to go and pick it up as well.
4.5/5 Stars
Like You Hurt is another winner from Kaydence Snow!
I was really looking forward to reading Donna’s story, and it exceeded all my expectations!!! Donna is a very complex personality…Snow gave her multiple layers that she peeled back with each chapter. In the first book, Like You Care, Donna appeared to be in control and nothing seemed to bother her. Boy, was I in for a shock. Donna does like being in control, and people depend on her, yet she doesn’t have anyone to hold her up when she needs someone to lean on…that is until Hendrix shows up.
Like Donna, Hendrix was quite the complex character too. He appears to be something he isn’t. Donna finds him arrogant and cocky, especially when he tells her he wants nothing to do with her or her little clique. However, there is so much people don’t know about him. He is carrying a huge burden of guilt with him, and he just wants to get through his senior year and move on. Too bad, Donna has gotten under his skin. He can’t seem to get the girl he should stay away from out of his mind.
Like in the first book, Snow chose the perfect title. Hendrix and Donna are people who hurt, but for very different reasons. They seem to bring out both the worst and the best in each other. It just depends on what day of the week it is. There is a tremendous amount of push and pull with these two, but there has to be for the romance to be realistic for this couple. They are both extremely strong and independent characters. Yet, there are vulnerable sides to each other who find it hard to trust others with their emotions.
Not only was this a steamy romance. The chemistry between them was HOT!!! As with the first book, there is some suspense as well that made the book even more difficult to put down.
This series just keeps getting better. Snow does a great job of drawing her readers in with her unique storylines and characters. Looking forward to more!!!!
Donna and Hendrix both have a darkness in them that needs an outlet, in one way or another. It’s intense -gutwrenching- witnessing their journey to freedom.
She is on the path to destruction, and he has been there.
Donna seems to have it all in life with the rich family, perfect grades, and rulling the school. In order to keep up the act she has to be able to let out a little steam. She likes to go where no one really knows who she is, and she can get her needs met without fear of being noticed.
Hendrix is at a new school where he doesn’t care what anyone thinks about him. He sees what no else does in Donna because he has been there. He has lived the perfect life that ended in tragedy. Should he step in, and help her out or leave her to crash and burn?
This story tugs at the heart strings of all of us who want to feel in total control while living in the chaos inside. The fact that this is a young girl trying to keep it together, but never quite hitting the mark in her mind left me wanting to wage a war with everyone who just couldn’t see past what she presented. Hendrix is the perfect balance for Donna. He calls her on her crap, and doesn’t let her get away with anything. She has never been challenged before in the way he challanges her. Together they are a great for each other. I can’t wait to see what else Kaydence has in store for us with her Devilsbend Dynasty girls! They are a strong tough group of girls who band together when everyone else would turn their backs.
Donna is a perfect princess… she has a wonderful family and friends that support her. Yet there is a dark side that no one sees but the new guy Hendrix!! Hendrix knows what it’s like to be in Donna’s place… he has a dark secret that ruined his old life… can he save Donna from going down the same path??
After reading like you care I couldnt wait for this and my God! It was amazing.
My heart fell for Hendrix straight away, a boy who had made a mistake and was doing what he could to change.
Donna was the perfect daughter but not everyone is perfect surely.
I couldnt put this down, I devoured it in one sitting.
Cant wait to read more from this author.
4 Stars!
After reading Like You Care last month I’ve been looking forward to the next Devilbend Dynasty book! I’ve been wanting Donna’s story and I had to pick this up as soon as I could! I was glad that I got to jump back into this world and pick up another one of Ms.Snow’s books! I enjoyed this story!
Donna and Hendrix’s journey wasn’t an easy one. I liked how these two got under each other’s skin and how there was more to both of them than meets the eye.
I so enjoyed getting to see their realness through their minds. These two made me feel so much! I wasn’t sure what all was going to happen with them.
Ms.Snow has created a great read with Like You Hurt! I can’t wait for more Devilbend Dynasty books!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
Like You Hurt is an enemies to lovers na romance.
I loved Donna from reading Like You Care and did not expect her character to go the way it did in this book. I honestly wasn’t the biggest fan of her for a while but eventually realized how damaged she really was.
But I loved Hendrix’s character. He was the hot guy that had the potential to be popular but instead he was a guy who just wanted to be left alone.
While these books can be read as a stand-alone, There is a small underlying plot throughout the series so it’s best all books be read in order.
Like You Hurt is the second book from the Devilbend Dynasty Series. Both this and the first (Like You Care) can be read as standalones, but I would definitely recomend reading as a series to fully appreciate some of the character dyamics
.
So lets start with Donna, I’ve got to say I was NOT a fan of her in the early stages of this book. After Like You Care I loved her as a secondary character, she’s a really girl power, loyal to a fault friend! That doesn’t change neccessarily in this book, but seeing things from Donna’s POV means it is hidden in her murky depths because she is spiralling internally and sometimes for me she came across as hypocritical
.
BUT Hendrix sees what Donna is so practiced in hiding because he recognises himself in her and thus ensues the push and pull between them. They ride the line between love and hate (mostly hate ). They have an undeniable connection, the kind that calls out to each other and says ‘I See You’. Hendrix has seen the error of his ways before Devilbend and doesn’t want to see Donna spiral in the same way.
.
They are both flawed and have secrets, but the journey they go on not only reaffirms their connection by accepting each other, but also allows them to truely find and accept themselves.
.
Donna thankfully redeemed herself to me in the end of the book and I adore the scenes with the Devilbend Dynasty girls towards the end, I love how these girls are so brutally honest with each other, yet loyal and protective too
.
I could go on but I’m rambling! In short…Donna and Hendrix are perfectly imperfect
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Donna’s first glimpse of the new transfer intrigues her. Too bad he seems to hold her in as much contempt as she holds him. But they shouldn’t be so quick to fight each other considering they will end up having the same goal – take down the people causing so much havoc in their community, the same people who were so horrible to Donna’s cousin Mena in Like You Care.
I remember being really fascinated by Donna’s HBIC attitude while reading Like You Care, but I had no idea how deep her backstory or why she had that sorta entitled attitude. Quite frankly she was bitchy, both in Mena’s story, and here in her own, but if anyone deserves that attitude, it’s her. She had a lot of pressure on her from all around, and she just did not know how to deal with it.
I love that Hendrix is absolutely 100% her perfect soulmate. He had demons as deep, or deeper, than hers, and dealt with them in different ways, and that’s why he got Donna, why he understood her so perfectly. I loved Mena and Turner together, and I’m happy to read that Donna and Hendrix are just as good, just as delicious and damaged together as her cousin.
I am loving this series, although I will admit that Like You Care is still my favorite out of the two. Okay so in Like You Hurt we have our female lead Donna. Who is a definite Queen Bee who runs this school how she likes it to be run. Enter Hendrix, the new student who does now bow down to the queen. So a lot of the story is the push and pull between the two. Which was highly entertaining. Hendrix was my hero, he knew how to handle Donna. He is what you would look for in a book boyfriend.
I would definitely recommend this series to read. Not only for the plot but for the characters. They are a fun crowd and I enjoyed getting to see Mena and Turner.
Like You Hurt is the second book of the Devilbend Dynasty series, and it’s Donna’s story. Donna was in Like You Care as well, and I was sure she’d be an interesting character to read about, since she is totally the opposite of Mena from the previous book.
Donna is the perfect girl, the queen bee of her school, Fulton Academy. But fret not, she’s not what you believe she is. Yes, it’s true she’s a bitch and seems to “rule” the school, but underneath, Donna is fragile, vulnerable, and she’s tired of this perfect life. Hence she likes to live a sort of a double life, and when she’s “Dark Donna” she likes to have all the fun she can’t have while she’s perfect Donna. Not even Mena, Harlow and Amaya know about this side of her, but you know what happens when you try to hide something: at some point the truth comes out.
Seeing through Donna’s façade is Hendrix Hawthorn, the newest guy at Fulton. Hendrix gets on Donna’s nerves on the first day of school, not only because he annoys her and does what he pleases, but because she’s attracted to him. Hendrix moved to Fulton from New York and is carrying a great deal of guilt because of something that happened back in his hometown. He wants to keep his distance from everyone at Fulton and just graduate high school, but it seems impossible, especially when he realizes what is Donna doing and starts caring for her. He is also somebody to appreciate because despite what happened in NYC, he tries to be a better person and atone for his sin.
Donna and Hendrix have hot chemistry. At first they believe their attraction to each other is purely sexual, but then they realize that there is something more, that the fact that they could read through the lines and really understand each other’s personalities is not pure coincidence. They provided great angst and managed to keep me on my toes. The plot also had a slight suspense element that we also saw in Like You Care, and it kept things interesting until the end.
I would say that this was a high school romance from the side of the bully, even if Donna isn’t a real bully, but she holds so much power over the student body that other people are willing to do things for her. This isn’t cool, of course, especially during some moments where I really felt sad for how Hendrix was treated. Thankfully, it all ends well.
If you are looking for a high school romance full of angst, then this is the perfect read! I’ll surely read the following book of this series.
I‘m a huuuuge fan of enemies to lovers books so it was obvious that I needed to read this book. Kaydence is a new author to me and this book definitely won‘t be the last one I read from her.
The cover is amazing. I just love it and the models are representing the characters alot!
Since I didn‘t read book 1 I really had no clue what I was in for. I was certainly not disappointed. Donna is a fierce, strong and indipendant woman but she struggle with the expectations from everyone around her. Enter the new hot guy Hendrix and her world is turned upside down. Hendrix has a dark past and is trying really hard to stay out of trouble but Donna doesn‘t make it easy for him.
For me the beginning was though to get into but after a while it certainly picked up and I really couldn‘t put the book down. Donna and Hendrix have a very angsty and complicated story. But ultimately it suited them really well.
I also couldn‘t predict the outcome of the subplots in this book which was great and gave the book an edge of surprise.
4.5
5 TOUCH MY HEART STARS!! OMG….This one touched my heart with so many emotions all the way through. Hendrix and Donna will grab your heart and squeeze it, but you will love every minute of it. This is one book your will want to read, it is so worth your time and money.
Donna Mead is a girl you don’t want to mess with, she wields her power over her fellow classmates with an iron fist, and you don’t dare cross her or she will make your life miserable. But she also has secrets, ones that she guards close to her heart, and if anyone ever learned them her reign as queen would be over. Good thing she is darn good at covering her tracks… or is she?
The moment she met Hendrix Hawthorn she was drawn to him, but he on the other hand couldn’t care less about her presence or shown interest. She knows his kind, the sexy, arrogant, trouble-making kind… and she doesn’t plan on letting him get the best of her.
But now that he is close to discovering her dirty little secret she knows she needs to prepare for a fight!
Like You Hurt is a dramatic little page-turner that will steal your attention from the very first page… wow what a story! These two were quite the pairing, both carrying a chip on their shoulder, both powerful in their own right, and both determined not to fall for the other. But sometimes that whole part about “keeping your enemies” closer can come back and bite you when you least expect it. The push and pull between these two kept things intense and climactic, I couldn’t pry my eyes from the words! Their attraction to one another may have been certain, but their liking for one another wasn’t that quick to come around, these two fought each other at every turn, and kept anticipation levels high. I loved what I found between the pages here, it had emotion, drama, angst, excitement, and steam… all the perfect ingredients for a thoroughly satisfying literary escape! Highly recommend!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
The stories in this series are really intriguing.
I really enjoy that alongside the romance element there is always something bigger going on.
The layers add an air of mystery and suspense.
I knew Donna was going to be an interesting character after reading about her in book one – and I wasn’t disappointed.
Fierce, loyal, headstrong, independent – these are all words that easily describe her.
Another word (that rhymes with witch) also came to mind earlier in the book but I quickly realised that was a front.
Hendrix sounds delish and their chemistry was INSANE.
I have so much love for this series and am super excited to read the next instalment!
I am really liking this series and am glad that I read the first book, Like You Care, before starting this. You are introduced to the Devilbend Dynasty girls. Donna is fierce and you don’t want to cross her or mess with her friends. I knew her story would be good but Kaydence took it to a whole other level! Enter Hendrix and the angsty goodness! There is a definitely pull between them and crazy chemistry. You will be taken on a crazy ride. I love how these books are not only interconnected but also a continual story.
Really enjoyed Donna and Hendrixs story. Donna is queen bee at her school and has a life most envy only it’s smoke and mirrors and when Hendrix shows up at her school at impressed by Donna or her antics she now has a target but when they spot each other in the only place Donna can find solace all bets are off!
