I don’t know what is about this author, but she has the unique ability to leave me laughing so hard that I am practically crying one minute and then have me wanting to hug the main characters in the next. Like the Wind has a lot going on in it with the powerful, underlying message of letting go of your past and instead find your happiness – something that many of us struggle with.
Bohdi is a 24 year-old popstar that has lived his life in the limelight since he was a young child, but soon discovers there are family secrets. Breeze is a hairdresser and pet sitter who struggles with her love life due to a past heartbreak. The two find themselves in a near death situation as California wildfires rip through the houses they are staying at. Thus begins their wild journey together and the journey of self-discovery.
I adored Bohdi. He is sarcastic, jaded, and falling a bit into an early-live crisis. I loved his sarcastic inner monologues and I love how he was with Breeze. Breeze is a bit more easy going with a huge compassionate streak in her and the type of person I would love to have as a friend. The two of them are the perfect couple, but their worlds are so different that it frightens Breeze. Will the two be able to make it work?
Like the Wind had me on the edge of my seat with my heart beating wildly as the author described the wildfires and their big escape. There were several moments when I was laughing – at the banter between Bohdi and Breeze, the banter and actions of Breeze’s hippie parents, Sweetpea’s aka LD’s evil antics, and with the teeny bopper fan-girling – but I also had moments where I really felt for Bohdi when it came to his family. Like the Wind is a sweet, fun, sexy book with wonderful characters and an interesting storyline that sucked me in from the first page and kept me entertained until the very end.
Bodhi has been famous for as long as he can rem. He was an actor and then a musician in a boy band. All of this led and managed by his father. He’s been told his mother is dead until a strange letter is brought to security. After a downward spiral, his father tells him to get away for a while. Breeze is a hairdresser just trying to survive life. When someone asks her to keep eye on their pets and stay at house she agrees. She could use extra money and loves animals. Everything is going great until a wildfire starts, the house Bodhi’s staying at is already on fire and he is escaping when he sees Breeze. Will an attraction grow? Will they act on it? Is this woman really his mother? This book is amazing! I couldn’t sleep until I finished it!
Like the Wind by J. Bengtsson originally debuted as an Audible Original and now it’s officially released as an ebook April 16th. I listened to Like the Wind whenever I was not able to read the book, and it didn’t take me long to finish the book.
This was the first book I read from J. Bengtsson, and I’ll be checking out her Cake series now after reading this book. I was laughing quite a bit with this book due to the characters. The male character Bodhi Beckett is apart of a boy band, and his life is about to be turned upside down, so he ends up doing things he usually wouldn’t do, and his manager/father sends him away on a retreat to regroup for a while. Unfortunately, he ends up in a California wildfire and has to flee the retreat and ends up saving a young woman along the way with some strange creatures. The woman who goes by Breeze is going to teach Bodhi quite a bit about life. Although, they will banter with each other quite a bit and she may even make him deal with listening to country music and dealing with her parents in a retro house. These two together are funny together.
I love when books include characters that are different from each other, and that is what Bodhi and Breeze are in this book. Bodhi is a boy band wonder/former child star, and Breeze is a hair stylist who also is a bit pet lover. I love opposites attracting in books, and this is what this book is to me. I also enjoyed reading a book that wasn’t a rockstar book, but instead a boy band star. J. Bengtsson threw in the mania of teen girls, and even mama’s going crazy over boy band starts. Poor Bodhi was dealing with all of that and then Breeze having to deal with it too with Bodhi. I can understand her reluctance on getting with someone like Bodhi though.
Overall, this was a delightful book, and I recommend it. I will be picking up the author’s Cake series now after reading/listening to this book.
Story Rating: 4 stars
Steaminess Rating: 3.5 stars
Standalone or part of series: Standalone.
Do I recommend this book? Yes.
Will I read other books from the author? Yes.
Tropes/Elements: Opposite’s Attract
Yes, another great book by this author.
Reading Conceited made me change my feelings for Creed, the hero from the first book in the series, and although I usually remain faithful, I have to admit that Falcon made me cheat on Creed in a big way.
Never expected to love him so much for all the swooning and determination in getting his own longtime wish accomplished. That wish comes in form of Ariel, his sister’s friend and an acquaintance from his past.
Lots of laughs out loud moments and also a few moments when I wanted to slap him. I shouted out loud at him as well. And God I love Raven more than any other heroine.
Same great writing and a world created by the author that will keep you glued to your Kindle till the end to find out what happens next with these great characters.
This is a book to book to treasure!!
With a fabulous, fun, heart warming story, starring two lovely characters in Breeze and Bhodi, Like the Wind has completely won my heart. This is a story which I will return to regularly, especially if I need a pick-me-up. It starts with some heart stopping and vividly described, jeopardy and moves onto a delightful romance, filled with all the beautifully described characters, quirk and all, loony pets and fabulous, on-point dialogue, that I have grown to expect from tbis very talented author.
To add to the brilliant reading experience, Like the Wind is also available in audio and is absolutely fabulous!
The narration by Callie Dalton and Zachary Webber is also warm, convincing and of a quality that ensures your concentration and focus is maintained throughout. A complete delight.
Like the Wind by J. Bengtsson was phenomenal. It hit all the right notes for me. Boy-band troubled pop star and quirky loving hairdresser. A California wild fire and daring rescue. Quirky pets, humor, danger, anticipation, attraction, and chemistry. Bodhi was the equivalent of a wide-eyed innocent babe on his own in the big wide world once he escaped the fire. With Breeze at his side to calm his fears and share in the simple things he never got to experience as a child she opens his eyes and his heart to more than he ever thought possible. Especially when he learns of his father’s deceit, his mother’s apparent resurrection and all the drama wrapped up in that nugget of betrayal. Well-written, well-paced, romantic, funny – I adored this book and how engaged I was while reading. Enjoy!
I can’t wait for this to come out on ebook. The audiobook was addictive. And with all of the fires that have occurred in California over the past few years this story is completely plausible. Breeze is a wonderful character that has so much love to give. Her compassion for all of the pets she is caring for when their lives are threatened by the fire.
Poor Bodhi doesn’t know what has hit him when he stops to rescue Breeze. She is the girl he didn’t know he needed or wanted.
Loved this book a lot. My only regret is that is won’t be available in paperback in February when I go to meet the author. Oh well, I can’t wait to go all fangirl over this and the rest of her books.

Oh, the words in print, how beautiful they are. The amazing glow of the words shining upon the screen were wonderful to see. I will admit that I worship the words of this amazing story, they weaved a tale I could picture, smell, hear. I was drawn into the hills of Southern California, flames blazing, sparks flying, the heat roaring, warning Bodhi and Breeze to flee, don’t look back, keep moving. My heart beat loud. My fear grew as I waited for them to drive to safety. This was definitely a nail biter. The author was able to take simple words and create a fear I did not know possible. And just when I thought all would be fun and easy the author took her words and wrapped them into challenges, realities, and shocking surprises.
By the time I got to the epilogue, Brodhi and Breeze had earned their Happily Ever After. By the time my eyes glanced down on that sweet epilogue was beyond perfection. I closed the Kindle, a happiness in the knowledge that true romance, true love are the perfect way to reward characters for surviving a natural disaster that took so much.
I really enjoyed this audiobook. This story started off and I was worried that it was going to be super emotional, crying my eyes out type of story. But then it actually turned quite comical. The characters are pretty quirky, which is really my jam. And there are hilarious side characters including some furry friends. Bodhi starts off as a troubled boy band member who holds some hostility towards his father and decides to take a time out. He meets Breeze as they are escaping a raging wildfire. I loved the chemistry and ease at which these two travel. Bodhi never had a chance to be a regular guy and we get to watch him live experience life as a “normal” person with Breeze guiding the way.
This Audiobook was fantastic! From the characters to the narrators to the story itself. I absolutely loved it!! It is a sometimes scary but fun journey Bodhi and Breeze take us on and I am very happy I tagged along for the ride!!
WOW!! I’m so impressed…

I have had the best bloody day today. For Christmas, hubby bought me an outdoor setting for beside the pool. For years, I’ve had dreams of reading/listening and lounging beside the pool with a glass of champagne in my hand. My dreams have been answered and that day has finally arrived. With an audio to listen to, a bloody hot day, a clear schedule and a bottle of champers calling my name, I was one happy camper. Like the Wind was perfect for my dream day, and I smiled, sighed and squirmed in my very happy place.
J. Bengtsson is a new author to me and I absolutely loved my introduction. I was completely sucked into this story and hated every time I had to pause my listening experience. My heart was pumping in the beginning and then all the fluttery, smiley parts came next. Of course, the journey can’t be complete without the clutching my pearls…how will they sort it out…angsty bits of the story. I needed to see Bodhi and Breeze survive the bushfire, get explanations as to the lies he was told and for her to find happiness after betrayal. The journey to see all these things play out was awesome and I loved every moment.
Honestly, and I don’t say this very often, I would have preferred this one to be narrated by Zachary Webber alone. I looked forward to his parts and felt that he carried the story well for both the male and female characters. His voice is easy to listen to and I never once struggled. Unfortunately, Callie Dalton sounded too young for the character she portrayed and gave Breeze an immaturity that I don’t think suited. It wasn’t bad, I just think it could have been better.
An awesome story that took me on an emotional journey. My heart was pumping as they escaped the fire. I laughed out loud numerous times and listened to most of it with a smile on my face. There were times that I was a little sadder, but it was more about sympathising with Bodhi and the chances he missed out on for the fame he learned to hate. Breeze is such a happy person that it almost seemed out of place that she let her ex’s betrayal upset her for so long. This story was a lot about moving on from the past and finding happiness in new love and life.
I finished with a big goofy smile on my face and convinced that Like the Wind is one of my new favourite Rockstar…if you can call a boyband, rockstars…Romances. I will definitely be reading/listening to more from this author in the future.
