Sometimes you just have to ride the wave you’re given.
Brady Samson wouldn’t say he’s lived a charmed life. His brother, Bo? Now that’s a different story. For the most part, Brady just wants to surf, eat, and surf some more. Nothing feels quite like the freedom of being out on the open water, chasing one more perfect break. He missed his chance at the last woman he was interested in. Now, … in. Now, he’s content riding solo. His entire world exists in the curl.
Until Lo Fredericks.
Lo is fearless, funny, mysterious, and one of the best athletes Brady has ever met. Her passion for surfing rivals his own and Brady finds himself intoxicated by her thirst to learn and inability to back down.
It doesn’t hurt that her kisses are outrageously perfect as well.
Lo only needs three things in life to be happy: sunshine, surf, and tacos. Then Brady Samson crashes into her life and takes her on an adventure so addicting and so inspiring, it turns her dreams on their head.
They travel the globe on a dare with only passports and surfboards — a journey of discovery about their sport, themselves, and each other.
Two wild spirits. One wild ride. Can they hold on to the end?
PG16 for language and light heat.

I was so surprised at how much I liked this. I’ve never been much of a contemporary fan but I am finding ones that really appeal to me lately. This is the story of 2 pro surfers who learn what love is. There was a passion and honesty to the writing I just loved. I will be reading more of Heidi’s books.
This is a different book then I normally read. There is a PG 17 rating that goes along with the book. There is one F word and a couple other colorful words spread through the story. There is some great kisses and chemistry, but it all fades to black with very little detail. These are adults who sleep together before marriage. There is some alcohol drinking and putting themselves in dangerous situations.
I panicked when Double Blind Study Series came to an end. Instead of fading into the library, Heidi has brightened my days with her latest book. I got to travel to some of the most beautiful beaches. I got a peak into the life of a surfer. Best of all it was wrapped up in a beautiful story of love.
Brady Samson grew up with a silver spoon. With age it has become tarnished by lack of motivation and desire. Surgical parents want a surgeon for a son. Samson would rather ride the waves.
Lo Fredericks acts as if success and money is everything. She has definitely earned it. She is a successful pharmaceutical representative that would rather be riding the waves. Brady’s parents see her as just what their son needs to become responsible. One kiss destroys any possibility.
Brady is offered his dream job—travel the world surfing, promoting Soaring Bird, a company owned by Shane and Greta. Unbeknownst to Brady, his partner/competition is Lo. How can he do his job, and not wipe out. There is something between them, but then there is the bro code. His brother and Her best friend are worst enemies.
Riding the waves is a great metaphor for their love life, their travels, their friendship. Drama, sweet romance. Their romance made me feel AWESOME!!!!! I was satisfied. It was a zen moment.
And then the wipeout. Jealousy can be destroy everything. It almost took Brady’s dream job. The solution created tension, excitement, thrills and chills. The pages kept turning with more satisfaction, addicted, need for resolution.
4.5 stars
“I believe you, Lo, can do anything you want. Other people don’t have that option. Other people are just people.” “And what am I?” “A mircale.”
Like the Back of My Halo was my blind date for October and as usual I made a perfect choice by chance. It was a light and carefree read but at the same time loaded with worries and self doubt. The living style and mind set of a dedicated surfer collided heavily with the problems only existing within our mind. The story was refreshing and thrilling at the same time.
“To love a free spirit is to never cage them.”
What I liked most about this book was that it got me yearning for the ocean and the beach, watching surfers surf and explore the freedom only the sea can give. I enjoyed the travelling part in this book and how well Heidi described those places and the waves.
The insta love and attraction between Lo and Brady was easy to believe and to feel. I admired Lo mostly because of how she stayed true to herself, fighting for what she wants and going for what she believed is good for her.
Brady was almost too good to be true. If I would meet someone like him some day, I’m pretty sure I’m dreaming. Brady walked a tightrope between the perfect boyfriend and the obsessive a-hole. But I really liked how he fought for Lo and their undeniable love.
“If Lo was the equivalent of a big wave, he could survive her wildness. And if e couldn’t… he would die happy in the crush of her existence.”
The side characters were really captivating and I can’t wait for book 2 and 3 coming live so that I can continue the story of this unique clique.
Only two small things are preventing me from giving 5 stars:
1. The characters should have acted more like their age. I sometimes felt like they were teenagers instead of almost 30.
2. There are some problems which should have been exploit more deeply, like the parents thing going on with Brady (so why exactly didn’t his mother come to help?) and the confusing almost non existent relationship between Lo and her parents. Because both seem to have a deep impact on how Brady and Lo see themselves and how they love and define love. But these topics were cut short. So were some others, which only scratched on the surface.
Nevertheless this book is a great adventure which brought sunlight into my heart and made me smile and sigh a lot.
“It was as if he became a live wire and she was a waterfall.”
“Sometimes when their eyes connected it was like looking directly at the sun.”
“You and I know better. Surfing is the only life that matters.”
