I’ve been Carissa Lynch’s fan ever since she began writing and what I love the most about her books is that she never ceases to amaze me! This newest creation of hers is very different from the others, even though it’s the same genre; yet, it has such a different vibe that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t understand where it was going until the very end. It’s written using an unreliable protagonist technique, which is my favorite for I never know whether to trust such a protagonist or not, and that’s what makes such stories even more mesmerizing.
Camilla, still not fully recovered from a horrific accident that took the life of her husband, is definitely such a protagonist. Even though the story is told through her eyes, I kept questioning myself whether all this is really happening or her mind plays some sort of tricks on her due to the emotional trauma and all the pills and alcohol she consumes, or if something different altogether is at play here. After all, why a popular girl, Valerie, who has seemingly mysteriously disappeared, suddenly resurfaces and asks Camilla for help? And why is Valerie’s supposed stalker strangely resembles Camilla’s late husband? Once I picked up the book, I literally devoured it in one sitting because I just couldn’t go to sleep until I found out how exactly it will all play out in the end. This book will mess with your brain in all the best ways and you will love every second of it, I promise. Profoundly dark and deliciously twisted – a must-read for all fans of the genre!
Disturbing, chilling, and featuring a damaged, obsessed heroine, LIKE, FOLLOW, KILL delves into the darkest side of social media and its influence on vulnerable people. It was hard to step away from this fast-paced read because I was desperate to uncover all of the twists and turns, which lead to a shocking ending. A very compelling suspense. I received an advanced reader copy.
I read a whole bunch and this book was phenomenal! I was up until 2 am to finish it.
Holy spoiler alert Batman!!!
So I absolutely love first person narration because of how unreliable they are. Most authors I’ve read, barely embrace this concept. They touch on the preceived slights, but not in this book. Holy cow she spins a web of deception and lies through the mental impairment caused by a car accident. I was so not anticipating the ending! I’m so impressed with the writing and the plot!! Oh my goodness! I cannot get over how phenomenal this was!!
Valerie Hutchens was that horribly perfect girl in middle school, the girl everyone fawned over. Camilla watched her from afar. She never had that kind of charisma.
Many years later, Camilla is disfigured by the car accident that left her husband dead. Traumatized and afraid of showing her scarred face to the world, Camilla isolates herself, spending her days staring wistfully at Valerie’s Instagram account. Valerie is a pharmaceutical rep now, photographing herself all over the country for her thousands of followers. Camilla obsesses about her, longing for the life that looks so beautiful from the outside.
But Valerie has another stalker, one who shows up behind her in photos and videos, one she posts about being afraid of. Camilla drops everything to come to her rescue and journeys south to retrace Valerie’s steps, desperate to save her from this unknown man, desperate to protect this perfect life she’ll never have.
LIKE, FOLLOW, KILL is absolutely chilling, as much a journey through the maze of a tortured mind as it is down dark and lonely roads. One word of advice when reading this book—trust no one.
This was a carefully crafted story with plenty of twists and turns. I enjoyed how you little by little where able to discover what was going on. One thing is for sure this story really puts social media into a different light. Nothing is ever as it seems on social media.
I enjoyed this story very much. Thank you to Netgalley for complimentary copy. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
After Camilla’s accident, she secluded herself, blaming herself for killing her fiancé. To pass the days, she stays on social media, living vicariously through a girl she had met in middle school named Valerie. When Valerie’s social media posts take a dark turn, Camilla sets out on an ill-fated trip to rescue her. However, Camilla has more reasons than one for wanting to seek out Valerie.
There was not a single bad thing to say about this book.
While at first Camilla is a character who I strongly emphasize for, it becomes quite clear that she’s not the broken person she appears to be. There is fire in her yet, one that will destroy everything given the chance. The unreliable narrator of Camilla made the story all the more compelling, and the twist ending left me staring dumbfounded at my kindle.
Probably the best psychological read I’ve encountered all year. Highly recommend!
Woah – that is not what I expected!
As I read through the story, I totally saw this going one way, even as the twist was happening, I kept telling myself that it wasn’t going to go like this and WHAM!
The characters in this story are amazing and real. I absolutely felt for Camilla and what she went through. The story will definitely keep you second guessing everything you thought you knew.
Wonderful!
From the prologue until the very last page, Carissa Ann Lynch kept me glued to the pages. Her writing style, imagery, and original flow of words was utterly captivating. The narrative is unique and full of that eerie, understated motive books of this genre need. Absolutely one of the top reads of 2019. 5 stars!!
Thank you to #NetGalley for this ARC of #LikeFollowKill, which was read and reviewed voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own
To slow
Surprise ending and an easy quick read. Had a bit of a hard time connecting/empathising with the main character, an alcoholic who killed her husband and injured herself while drinking and driving yet continues to drink and drive.
If I could give this book a 10 Stars instead of 5 I definitely would this book kept me on the edge of my seat every single page and blew my mind at the ending Carissa Lynch is such an amazing author I’m so glad that I tried her out and I cannot wait to read more of her books.
Camilla thinks that she has found a perfect friend as she tries to put her life together after horrific crash, but nothing is what it seems read the book to follow Camellia on a trip that will leave you saying oh my God I didn’t see that coming!
it was not good
What in the whacked out, body odor having, internet stalking, Paducah visiting heck did I just read???
This book is nuts and I loved it.
Just amazing. Another book by Carissa Ann Lynch that I could not put down. Page-turner from the beginning. I recommend a thousand times over.
3 Stars
This book was really good until the last 2 chapters and then it sort of went off the rails. I really sympathized with the main character until then. She needed therapy no doubt, but was still likable. This book would have been a solid 4 stars if not for how it was wrapped up. I had to suspend all belief and even then nope. Oh well better luck next time Carissa!
