Like Father Like SonI said good-bye to my son. But he had one final request—a letter I’ll never forget.Dear Dad,If you’re reading this, it means I’m gone. I had one dream, growing old with Holland. Death won’t stop me from providing for my wife. And because you’re the best man I know, what I’m about to ask—my last request—I know you’ll do. Please take care of Holland. Take her back to California … back to California with you. It’s a lot—I know. But, I’m placing my most precious possession in your hands.
Love,
Scott
But the thoughts swirling through my mind are certainly not what my late son had in mind. How do I resist this woman in front of me?
After all, you can’t choose love, it chooses you.

Oh my gosh. Leigh Lennon has killed me! This is the first book I’ve read by her and it was absolutely amazing. This story was so gut wrenching. I hurt for the characters. I wanted so bad for them to be happy. The storyline was all things forbidden and taboo. The angst and tension gripped me by the throat and still hasn’t let me go. I can’t believe the cliffhanger this book ended up on. I NEED the rest of this story right now!
What a book! Leigh Lennon has delivered a slow burn romance like no other that will leave you all out of sorts in the best possible way. Maguire and Holland are two people that are recovering from a huge loss and discover more about each other than they anticipated. They have this relationship that is fun, sassy and protective of the other. And let the slow burn commence! But be ready for the ending of all endings.
I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one. The story kept me spellbound. I loved how the author would provide memory flashbacks to help you understand what the characters were feeling. I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good romance.
Oh dear god I need more now!! This book had me going back and forth with my feeling from the first page to the last and now I absolutely need more now!!
What happens when the life that you planned for is destroyed and the one person that makes you feel again is the last person that you should feel something for?? This book will make you question right and wrong; it will show you the stages of healing, it will put some serious strain on your heart. But the beauty hidden between the pages makes me crave the angst.
This book leaves us on a crazy cliffhanger and I don’t like the wait for more. But I trust this author to bring us everything that I need for closure. If you are wanting to get started, jump in now so that you are ready for the next book!
Leigh has done it again! I could not put this book down.
This book I knew was going to be an emotional one. I was not prepared for how many emotions I would feel. I felt these emotions with each character.
Loved the interactions between Holland and Maguire. There is so real tear jerking moments but also some real laugh out loud moments.
I loved every second of this book and can not wait for then second instalment of this duet
Leigh has this ability to write an amazing story. Her stories pull the reader in and emotionally attach you to the character(s). I loved everything about this book. I swear most of the book I just wanted to cry for Holland and the life she could have had. Then there is Maguire, he changes everything. Their chemistry is just hot! This story is forbidden/taboo and it is such an amazing story. It ends on a cliffhanger but that’s to be expected with most duets I cannot wait for the second half of this story!
I just LOVED Maguire and Holland their story is definitely different and leaves you on the edge of your seat. I couldn’t stop reading cause I needed to know what happened next. A sad, sweet, emotional, comical, steamy and leaves you wanting more kind of book.
This is only book one of a two book duet, so prepare yourself for the cliffhanger. I enjoyed the start of this slow-burning, deeply emotional, forbidden romance. This is Maguire and Holland’s story and it is as epic as it is poignant. I found it impossible not to connect with and feel for these two. From their painfull pasts, to the horrible heartbreak that they are sharing at the moment, my heart just ached for these two. As the blurb says: You can’t choose love, it chooses you, and that is the unenviable and very difficult situation that they find themselves in. Do not go into this book thinking that you will get a lot of heat because you will be disappointed. However, I found this realistic, respectful and perfect for the story that is unfolding. You will get a little taste of the steam that these two will generate together towards the end of this book but mostly, you can look forward to plenty of long simmering emotions, denied desires and a ton of hot sparks. This well written story is powered by intense emotions. Love, loss, guilt, grief, regret, anger, fear, hope, angst, joy, friendship, jealousy and desire are all cleverly blended into a potent cocktail that will quickly have you hooked and leave you thirsty for so much more of it!! All I know is I need book two ASAP!!!
One of my top 10 taboo reads this year. A book that will make your mouth hang open and suck you in from the very beginning. Leigh Lennon – you are a master and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in book 2!
This book is one of my top taboo books I’ve read. It has all the angst, chemistry, undeniable feelings that you want in a bad way! I absolutely loved all the little moments – the touches, the looks, the deep feelings the author describes. She has taken taboo and made it beautiful and acceptable. I feel so connected just simply based on descriptions and all they’ve been through. It is one you don’t want to miss and will want to read again and again. I am absolutely blown away! Leigh Lennon has another masterpiece on her hands.
Holland, McGuire, Scott, and Christine all have major parts in this story. There is heartbreak, emotion, coincidences that are uncanny and an amazing story of love, support, and overcoming and moving on from tragedy.
I need the next book! You will love this book as much as me and will be begging for Different As Night and Day like I am!!
Like Father Like Son Book 1 in the Father/Son Duet by Leigh Lennon
I really enjoyed this story! The laughter and the tears made me wanting more! Wonderful characters. Beautifully written!
“I honestly don’t know if there’s a clear cut answer, darlin’, it’s out of the realm of normal but hell, I hurt– I can’t breathe when you’re not near me. I need you like I need oxygen.”
“Your affection and dare I say, love for me, gives me the strength to put one foot in front of the other.”
Can’t wait for Book 2 in the duet
This first book in the Father/Son Duet by Leigh Lennon puts a unique spin on a dying son asking his dad to take care of his wife for him. I thought this taboo storyline would be hard for me to grasp and at times I did feel it a little forced but I did enjoy it quite a bit. I love Holland and McGuire very much and with their situation different than most I needed a bit of time to warm up to the two of them together. Throw in a few twists and an ending that makes you go “oh my” and you have a really great first book. I am definitely looking forward to the conclusion!!!
What can I say to justify how much I liked this book. The taboo of the 2 characters is there but warmed up to me as kept reading. This is the first time I have read a father/son’s wife/widow age gap and as it is stated, you don’t always chose those you fall in love with.
This one had me crying in the beginning, wondering how they will move on, to rooting for them, to HOLY CRAP why did you do that Leigh in the end. I will say this one ends in a doozy of a cliffy so be warned. If you don’t like cliffies then you may want to wait for bk 2 to come out. Leigh is really good at pulling out the emotional scale from 0-OMFG what just happened.
I mean look at that cover also….How could you not want to read this book and not fall in love with the characters. So as I patiently wait for bk 2 I will leave you with my review of bk 1 to think about.
This story grabbed me from the very first chapter and distracted me from everything in my life until I finished reading the last page.
At 21, Holland Parrish’s life hasn’t been easy. Her parents are neglectful and uncaring and the only family she could count on is her husband Scott, who is serving in the military. When Scott is killed in action, Holland is suddenly alone, one step from being homeless, and left with no one to turn to. At Scott’s funeral, Holland sees Scott’s father Maguire and gives him a letter Scott saved for him. That letter will change Holland’s life and give Maguire a chance at redemption.
Holland is such a quirky but independent character. I loved her purple hair and love of wearing crazy patterns. She’s the wild storm that completely surrounds Maguire’s controlled world. Maguire is such a good man, but he is filled with so much regret over his son. Now put these two characters together in a scene and, bam!, there’s fireworks. This is a slow burn romance but it fits the moment and really keeps you in the ‘will they, won’t they?’ suspense that I enjoyed. I wasn’t prepared for that ending, though! Gah! I’m now pacing and waiting until I can read the next book and find out how this duet ends. 5 stars.
What can I really say about this book without spoiling anything???? This is a intriguing taboo story with tons of feels. Holland with some of her quirky saying will make you laugh. Maguire is the man that most women dream of. The sadness will make your heart hurt. This is a Do Not Miss book. Can not wait for the next one.
This isnt my usual go to genre but I love Leigh Lennon! Like Father like Son has a strong storyline with a good flow and characters you will immediately connect with! I honestly wasnt sure if I was going to like this book when I started, but the rollercoaster of emotions and chemistry between Holland and Maguire had me liking this book very quickly! That ending though!!! Never saw that coming!!!
This heart clenching, steamy, angsty and forbidden slowburn gripped me from the first page and I absolutely couldn’t put it down until I had devoured every page.
I enjoyed the dual point of view and seeing everything play out through both of their eyes. The chemistry between Holland and Maguire sparked from the very start and only grew stronger as they each try to heal. Both Maguire and Holland made my heart ache as they tried to come to terms with the new realities of their lives.
I didn’t expect to feel so emotional while reading this book but Maguire and Holland’s story drew me in and made me really consider my view on love. Separately these two could not be more opposite yet together they absolutely squeezed and then stole my heart. After the ending in Like Father Like Son I am eagerly awaiting to see the conclusion of their story. If you enjoy emotional and angsty slowburn reads with a touch of the forbidden then do yourself a favor and dive into this book asap.
OMFG!! Leigh Lennon Did It Again with LIKE FATHER LIKE SON!! NEVER A DULL MOMENT & DEVOURED THIS BOOK IN ONE SITTING!!! This Book is so Different than what Leigh has written before and it’s So Beautifully Written by Epic Proportions!!
Definitely Must Read Book and there is A CLIFFHANGER That I Was NOT EXPECTING!!
I CANNOT WAIT TO READ PART 2 of this Suspenseful Dual Series!! I NEED IT LIKE MY NEXT BREATHE!!
Oh lordy! Is book two out yet??
I cannot express how much I have absolutely loved this book!! This story exceeded all preconceived expectations that I had going into it. I thought I was getting one thing and was rewarded with something else entirely.
When I say I devoured this book I mean I DEVOURED this book. From the moment it landed on my kindle I could not put it down. This one blew me away and has quickly become one of my favorite books of the year, and favorite books of all time. I whole heartily loved this book and both of the characters.
This was my first Leigh Lennon book and I must say the writing was phenomenal! I was hooked from the moment I first heard about this book I knew I just had to have it immediately. Just the title alone made me want it, then I read the blurb and knew this was the book for me.
The chemistry and between Holland and Maguire was there from the very beginning and only grows stronger throughout the book as the two heal.
This story is about two people finding love in a very unconventional way. It is taboo and forbidden and just plain beautiful. The very definition of a slow burn.
These two characters find love in the mist of heartache and become each other’s rocks. Without one another they would both be lost. The letter Maguire’s son leave’s him gives his dad a sense of purpose in his life and helps fill the void that his son’s death has left. Taking care and providing for Holland helps heal the both of them and a unbreakable friendship and bond is formed.
The cliffy at the end took me by complete surprise and left me needing the next book Different As Day and Night ASAP. I cannot recommend this book enough.
I was kindly given a book in exchange for an honest review.
I love a good romance, and when there’s a taboo element in play, I’m the first to sign up for release dates and waiting not so patiently for the boom to come out!
That was no different with this book! From the blurb, I was immediately intrigued, and wanted to know how Holland and Maguires story would play out!
We first meet Maguire when he’s forced to say goodbye to his son, thanks to his not nice (for lack of a better word) ex wife, who is moving the two of them across the country after their divorce. He’s a devoted father and wants to be with him, but because of the money he’s sending his ex every month, and the startup from his new business, be doesn’t have the capital to pick up and move with them, so he puts aside his true feelings and watches his ex take off with his son. Fast forward to the present, and we find out that even though Maguire and his son aren’t as close as either of them would like to be (thanks to the ex) they still very much love each other and maintained a healthy and loving father/son relationship from opposite sides of the country. Maguire doesn’t keep in contact with his ex outside of what his son may need, but one morning he gets a call from her that turns his life upside down: his son has been killed in the line of duty, and now he must go bury the one person he loves more than anything.
When we meet Holland, she’s ready to start her life with her husband, and have a family with him and create everything they’ve ever dreamed of. That all comes crashing down when his commanding officer comes to tell her that he’s been killed, and now she has to face the impossible: A life without the man she loves.
Holland and Maguire reunite at the funeral, and while they are trying to hold the other up through the painful process, Holland gives him a letter from her husband. After reading it, his sons last wishes was for Maguire to take his wife home with him and look after her now that he’s gone. Holland doesn’t have much of a family to go back home to (they didn’t even show up to her own husbands funeral!!) So after some convincing, she agrees to move with him and into his home while she puts herself back together.
On the road trip to Maguires home, they become each other’s confidant in their own grief, and when Holland learns that she’s pregnant, Maguire convinces her to stay and to help raise the last remaining piece he has left of his son.
I’ll be honest, as much as I really enjoyed this book, I didn’t feel their love connection until towards the end. I felt that Holland was placing her feelings on someone who was just like her husband, and not the man that Maguire was. As their story slowly progressed however, I saw how she did really love Maguire as his own person, and how she felt guilty that she was moving on with her dead husbands father while raising their baby.
And THAT ENDING. Dear lord, that was one hell of a cliffhanger!
Overall this was a really good book, and I would definitely recommend it!
**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**
I can not even begin to tell you how great I think this book is. When I first heard the premise of it I wondered how I would feel about the taboo-ness of it all, but hey I will give it a shot….. I am so glad that I did! At this point, I am a little mad because…. damn you with that cliffhanger! There were some total alpha-male make me swoon kind of moments. Maguire is absolutely a man! And he calls Holland darlin’!!! If you have read many of my reviews, y’all know how I feel about men that use the term darlin’….all the . You know from the very beginning that these 2 are going to have some major bumps in their road to a HEA….the question is are they willing to face them head on, or turn tail and hide? It is absolutely a slow burn kind of book…. but I am betting that the fireworks will be worth the wait! I am on pins and needles waiting for Different as Night and Day . The cliffhanger leaves you in freak out mode! If you can handle the subject matter (a woman falling in love with her deceased husband’s father) you will most definitely want to pick this up!!! I have so much love for Holland and Maguire! They get 5 “flip flop polly wop” stars!!!
