Like Father Like SonI said good-bye to my son. But he had one final request—a letter I’ll never forget.Dear Dad,If you’re reading this, it means I’m gone. I had one dream, growing old with Holland. Death won’t stop me from providing for my wife. And because you’re the best man I know, what I’m about to ask—my last request—I know you’ll do. Please take care of Holland. Take her back to California … back to California with you. It’s a lot—I know. But, I’m placing my most precious possession in your hands.
Love,
Scott
But the thoughts swirling through my mind are certainly not what my late son had in mind. How do I resist this woman in front of me?
After all, you can’t choose love, it chooses you.

Maguire lost his son Scott and Scott left a note for him to take care of his widow Holland.
Well that’s all fine and dandy until the two feel a forbidden attraction towards each other. But as they weather their feelings of attraction, mourning their lost love one and Holland being a new mom by the time they get their attraction together and try the whole father in law/grandpa vs. Daughter in law/ girlfriend they get the sting of betraying Scott so they hem haw around still growing closer only for Holland to start ignoring Maguire all together. He takes the step to try only for the most horrific cliffhanger of all time to end the story.
OMG! This was intense! Totally forbidden, totally taboo! This is the first book I’ve read by her and it was absolutely amazing. This story was so gut wrenching. I hurt for the characters. I wanted so bad for them to be happy. The angst and tension gripped me and I can’t seem to let it go.
I sure wasn’t expecting it ended with that cliffhanger and I can’t wait for the next part to see how it plays out! I can’t say much on this one and because I want to read the continuation so bad!
ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review.
I love everything Leigh Lennon writes.
She has a way with words that suck you in and you become invested in that story. I couldn’t put this book down.
Of course it left off on a huge cliffhanger one I did NOT see coming! Which means I can’t wait to read book two.
My emotions were all over this book. I was sad, then hopeful, then happy and then shocked.
I will read anything she writes even genres I don’t normally read.
Well, well, well. This is my first book from this author. I wanted to read it because of the blurb. I don’t read a lot of taboo stories, but I was interested to see how this one would be. Maguire loses his son, Scott and Holland loses her husband. Scott knew that Holland wouldn’t want to go back to her family, so he leaves a letter for his dad asking him to take care of her. Maguire and Holland both feel a mutual attraction, but they don’t act on it for a very long time. This book was a slow burn, but interesting. I guess, I think it felt more realistic because they didn’t rush things. I really enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to see what happens in book two!
Beautiful and Emotional read !!
This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I really enjoyed it. Great plot , great characters and that ending! This is a intense emotional read and now I am patiently waiting for book 2 please! Definite 5 star worthy and I definitely recommend
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced complimentary copy of this book
Q: She’s my responsibility and yet she’s become more than a simple promise to my late son.
Q: I’m falling for my son’s girl— she makes me a better person.
I’ve been reading Leigh Lennon for about two years now, and I love her stories. Like Father Like Son, the first book in the Father/Son Duet, was instantly enthralling and I read this book in one sitting. It’s a taboo story for sure—Maguire and Holland are incredibly drawn to one another, and their relationship is completely forbidden. After all, he’s the father of Holland’s deceased husband. The age gap between Maguire and Holland was another lure for me with this story since I love age gap romances. I loved reading the progression of their mutual feelings of grief which soon are overcome desire for one another. Although they fight it, those feelings grow and created a sexual tension that nearly jumps off the page.
Q: Tears fall on the beauty of the wood that holds my best friend, or his remains, I should say, when I swear his large muscular arms surround me— and I break. Every fiber of my being holds onto him because now that I have him back, I’ll never let go. Then I turn, only to see it’s not my husband. It’s my father-in-law.
Q: Maguire’s very nature sets my soul on fire. Is it that Maguire is my husband in an older man’s body that has me craving his touch…
Q: …it’s in his arms I can start living again.
Like Father Like Son is well written with a storyline that feels very much like a second chance romance. Primarily because Scott (Holland’s deceased husband) and Maguire are so very much alike, leading Holland to feel like she’s in a holding pattern with an older version of her husband. The story is told in dual POV and as always, I loved diving into these characters perspectives and innermost thoughts. Scott was in the military and ss a military spouse, I will say there were a few moments that I was teary eyed and had to take a few deep breaths. I think Leigh did a beautiful job of layering the grief, desire, and angst that a story like this one deserved. As the first book in a duet, of course, Like Father Like Son ends on a soft cliffhanger, as I expect with any duet or trilogy. This book is set to a slightly slower pace, but the storyline dictates such and combined with the emotional draws the story brings, I was compelled to finish reading the same night I picked up Like Father Like Son. The conclusion to Maguire and Holland’s story releases in about two weeks, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. One-click Like Father Like Son immediately so you can be prepared to dive into Different as Night and Day as soon as it releases!
Q: “You’re right, darlin’, there’s nothing normal about this. It’ll be hard. But we lost the most important person to us. A second chance at love rarely comes around. And we have it within arm’s reach.”
This was a new to me author and I definitely wasn’t disappointed! Forbidden romances are one of my favorite tropes. I loved the slow burn chemistry between Maguire and Holland. My emotions were all over the place, I felt their pain, grief, guilt , and the attraction between Maguire and Holland while trying to navigate their very complicated relationship. That ending nearly killed me, I kept trying to swipe after the book ended. I need more!
Shitake mushrooms I knew Leigh Lennon can write amazing books that will keep you hooked from the beginning until the end but with this one… Just wow.
I love to read slow burn tabboo romances and once that are not in your face obvious are even better and that’s what happened here.
“Like father like son” is a first book in Father/Son duet and the second book will release on August 8th so you won’t need to wait long for the conclusion of this addicting story.
So what will happen when father buries his sun and wife buries his husband and they will be connected by their grief? And what if son as his last wish will leave a letter to ask to take care of his wife who he loved the most? That’s how story of Maguire and Holland starts and let me just tell you that they are both amazing, well written characters perfect for this story. Are they perfect? No. They both have flaws and grief in their own way but all that make them more probable characters and that will make you fall in love in both of them even easier. And I won’t tell you more her cause I don’t want to ruin this amazing story here beside one more thing that is really amazingly written. That thing is dealing with grief when basically for both characters the funeral is the beginning of new lives and learning how to live after such enormous lost.
As always Leigh Lennon did wonderful job with book that you won’t be able to put down and that cliffhanger will make you count days until second book. So I definitely reccomend both books to you as the July and August must reads.
Maguire and Holland find themselves getting closer as they grieve the loss of Scott, Maguire’s son and Holland’s husband. In my mind, I was really hoping this would be a steamy, angst-ridden taboo romance. There was some sexual tension, but not as much as I was expecting. Part of this was because of the plot twists, but also because of secondary characters like Kat and Jase. This book ends in a big cliffhanger, and I’m really looking forward to getting to the meaty part of the romance.
This was a forbidden trope that I’ve never read before and I had quite a few doubts before I even read the first page. It didn’t take long before all those concerns were put to rest and I fell completely in love with Holland and Maguire’s story. My heart ached for Maguire beginning in the Prologue as he is separated from his six year old son, Scott, due to divorce. In the first chapter, later down the road, we are introduced to Scott’s wife Holland. I love her character so much! She is definitely up there with my favorite heroines since I began reading so long ago. My heart broke for her and then Maguire when Scott is killed overseas while fighting for our country. Having a son myself made it a reality I hope I never face. Scott leaves his father a letter asking him to do one last thing for him and take Holland home with him and take care of her. She is only twenty-one but seems to have an old soul. She also has incredible strength and spunk. They each begin to grow closer as they each grieve losing someone so important to them. This is where I worried how the author would tell the story so their grief is realistically portrayed along with the closeness they would share while still being respectful to Scott’s memory. The author accomplished that feat and did it in such a graceful and real way. I was blown away with how seamlessly she brought all the very sensitive issues together. It ended on a bit of a cliffhanger but only a small one. I will be counting the days until the second book in this duet is released. I’m so glad I don’t have long to wait. If the author writes the second half of the story with any of the talent that she did part one then it will be well worth the wait!
Absolutely loved this book from page one to the last. Their love was real and thought out. I need to follow their journey and see it through to the end. Amazing writing.
I absolutely was immersed in this book once I started reading. It puts you through all kinds of emotions but has you wanting more. You really feel for the main characters (Holland & Maguire) and get to experience what they’re going through when faced with a shared heartbreaking loss and they forge a strong relationship that has potential to be more. I highly suggest reading this book. I simply can’t wait to see what happens when this story comes to an end.
Wow just wow. I cried when i first started the book. Its a great story about what happens when you lose someone who was in the military service. It shows you who your real friends and family are. I love the chemistry between Maguire and Holland.
Another one click from author Leigh Lennon.
Anyone who knows me, knows I’m not a fan of slow burn or cliffhangers. But, when I saw the cover, and read the blurb, I knew that I wanted to read this duet.
Maguire is exactly the type of hero that I love. He’s loyal and intense in his feelings, and when he loves, he loves deeply.
Holland was dealing with heartbreak from losing her husband, and her feelings for his father. She’s both sassy and sweet.
That ending though! I need the second book really soon, because I have to know what happens after that cliffhanger!!
This is a new to me author so I took a chance on this book and I was very pleased…. I didn’t know what to expect but I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the second book of this story….HoThislland and Maguire have so much chemistry that they could start a fire!!!
Awesome story!!!
Oh boy does Leigh Lennon know how to bring on the waterworks, the laughter and the eye rolling moments with her words!! Hands down, she is a master with her words!!
Holland just got word her best friend/husband was killed in action and has 30 days to vacate the home they shared on base. She has two place she could go but knows she’d be living in hell there so when she is offered a place to stay with her father in-law in Cali she can’t refuse it. The two last things she ever expected turn her life upside down once again.
As Leigh Lennon said, “You can’t choose love, it chooses you.”
I can’t wait for Different As Night and Day to see what happens with these characters.
Oh my goodness, this book!!! I couldn’t put it down. I love taboo romance and this book kicks it out of the park. It’s a slow burner with an emotional build and incredibly different from other romances in this trope.
The writing is fabulous, the emotional turmoil in both Holland and Maguire had me eating up the pages- I wanted to know what was going to happen with them next. This book is angsty and a heartbreaker but leaves you with hope and a spark of what’s to come. I cannot wait for the conclusion to this duet. LOVED THIS BOOK!!
What an amazing story! The chemistry and connection that Maguire and Holland share is so strong yet “forbidden”. They are both grieving and fighting the attraction they feel towards each other. Leigh Lennon does a phenomenal job at making you feel the emotions and pulling you into their story. I’m very anxious for book 2!
Like Father Like Son is a book filled with heartbreak, love and understanding.
Maguire felt he let his son down as he grew up thousands of miles away after a bitter divorce, and unbeknown to Maguire his son Scott loved and admired him so much! When Scott married Holland he promised to love and protect and that’s what he did, he joined the military for provide for her.
Sadly, tragedy’s strikes and Holland finds herself driving 3000 miles in Scott’s truck with Maguire, a letter from Scott asking his dad one last favour! And what father can turn that down.
But, when two people spend so much time together sparks are bound to fly, but Scott left them both with a special package, and they both feel like a line cannot be crossed. Can they overcome the feelings and find happiness or can fate pull them apart.
This ends on a cliffhanger, so I look forward to seeing how this story ends.
If you read the blurb you know that this is a taboo story with a cliffhanger ending. It is the story of a 21 year old military widow named Holland. Her 22 year old husband has been killed in action and now she’s not sure what to do with her life. She has absentee parents, a mother in law that is a nightmare and a father in law that she barely knows. What she doesn’t know is that her husband left a letter for her father in law Maguire to take care of her. Maguire loved his son dearly and would have done anything in life for him so he will honor his wishes in death. Maguire is 42 and hasn’t had a real relationship with a woman since the ugly demise of his young marriage. Holland and Maguire have a lot of differences. There is a 21 year age gap and their styles and personalities are as different as night and day. It is hard to rate a book when I haven’t read the full story but the end comes out in a month. I gave this 4 stars because it was well written and kept me engaged until the final page and I do look forward to reading the end. This trope may not be for every reader however if we were living in the year 1800, this wouldn’t have been shocking but a part of real life. The book is told from dual POV and as one can expect has angst, tears, a few laughs and just a tiny bit of steam.
