For fans of Kate Daniels and The Dresden Files comes a new breed of urban fantasy heroine. One who might not survive an endless day. When the FBI releases supernatural bounty hunter Ruby Callaway after 20 years, the terms are simple: put down the necromancer killing public officials in return for amnesty. But then the necromancer plunges a blade through her heart, and Ruby reawakens at midnight, … heart, and Ruby reawakens at midnight, back in jail. Alive.
Which means one thing: the necromancer has thrust the world into an endless time loop that only he and Ruby can see. And Ruby is the only one capable of stopping him before the world burns. But as she unravels the necromancer’s sinister plan, two questions repeat in Ruby’s mind: Just how dangerous is a vengeful serial killer with nothing but time?
And what if the necromancer isn’t the worst thing lurking in the shadows of this brave new world?
Lightning Blade is the first book in the Ruby Callaway Trilogy, mixing dark, gritty urban fantasy with a sprinkling of futuristic sci-fi & cyberpunk. Not your typical bounty hunter. Not your typical urban fantasy.

Ruby Callaway is in prison, in a time loop. She keeps re-living the same day, where an FBI agent releases her from prison in order for her to assist with the removal of a Necromancer. But Ruby and the Necromancer are the only ones that know about the time loop and every time she relives the day she has to convince the FBI agent that she is the one who can do this, but that they need to work together. Ruby is in a race against time. The longer the time loop exists, the harder it is to break out. So she must find a way before she is stuck forever. She needs to break out of the time loop, in order to break out of her prison.
Groundhogs day of the worse variety.
The book was fine, had all the ingredients for a great urban fantasy. Relatable MCs, nice plot decent backstory, but it just doesn’t have the same sort of hit that I was expecting. Decent read overall but I wouldn’t buy book 2
Couldn’t wait to finish but was sad when it ended.
Its a little hard to read about the same day over and over again, even when the action of each day is different and adds to the plot line, but this one could have used a little more information rather than quick action. I still liked it and would like to finish the story in the upcoming books, but, it may take me while to go back there.
A little difficult to follow the plot, but entertaining none the less. May buy next one in series
Sometimes hard to follow
Not a very memorable read. I just finished it and I can’t say anything either good or bad about it
Temporal aspects make the book a little cumbersome to read and only allows for superficial character development. Interested to see where the series goes.
hard to follow – you didn’t know if they were going through a time loop or not
I enjoyed the futuristic twist and creativity
I really wanted to like this book. Have still not been able to finish it but will keep trying. My only issue with it is that there are spots in it where I feel like I have missed a bunch of back story. Maybe I just was not paying enough attention but I don’t usually have a problem following what is a flash back in a book and what is current. Like I said I really want to like it but I get jarred out of the story occasionally and have to backtrack in order to figure out what I missed and sometimes I never can figure it out.
This book was a well developed treatment of the “Groundhog Day” situation, which served to make the origin of the heroine clear and distinct enough to make me want to read the next book. As the first book in a series it did the required job, making the reader want to read the next book. In terms of the characters and the powers displayed it was good, but not great. I liked it, but it could have been better. It was worth far more than I paid for it, as I got it free.
Can’t wait to read other works by this author
loved the story. remencent of patricia briggs & laurell k. hamilton styles, but with a twist. totally recommend for anyone that loves fantasy stories & is tired of the multiple vampire stories out to date
Too much bad language and weird.
Hard to follow…not much to the story.
an Ok story but mixing futuristic and the past isn’t always a good way to go didn’t always hold my interest
Decent read, kept me interested until the end
STORY LINE WAS DIFFERENT IN A GOOD WAY.
NEEDED PROOF READER.
