With autumn in full brilliant color, the Amish of Promise Lodge celebrate a successful harvest—and a community rooted in deep friendship. But as cold winds of judgment cast doubt and fear, residents will need each other more than ever to weather the storm . . . For abandoned wife Annabelle Beachey, Promise Lodge is a refuge where she’s gained confidence and self-sufficiency. But she and others … self-sufficiency. But she and others are dismayed when newly arrived Bishop Clayton King claims the community is too progressive and sets out to change its ways. Worse, her husband, Phineas returns, expecting her to give up her faith as he has. And he won’t leave Promise Lodge without her . . .
But little by little, Annabelle’s determination and new forthrightness make Phineas realize his mistakes—and truly hear his wife for the first time. Meanwhile, Annabelle finds herself feeling compassion—and even renewed love—for her newly humble, more caring husband. And as Bishop Clayton’s attempt to control Promise Lodge threatens everything its residents have built, Phineas and Annabelle must work together with unshakeable courage to save their new home—and their opportunity for forever happiness.
Praise for Promise Lodge

I enjoyed this series as it showed a side of strong Amish woman that you do not see a lot in Amish fiction. Light Shines on Promise Lodge is a great ending to the series. You are not left with any cliff hangers and as with every book in the series, it is a clean read.
I really enjoyed seeing Gloria’s character grow up through the series and come into a fine young lady. She is a character that will stay with you and make you see the younger generations in more understanding light. She reminds us that we were all younger at one time and might not have made the best decisions.
Each book can be read as a standalone but I think you get more from the series reading in order.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Kensington, through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
This story tells us about a estranged married couple trying to see if they still could get back together and if their opinions about life could become compatible.
Another visit to the Promise Lodge, worth the read. Love continues to grow throughout the community despite a new threat to the leadership. I loved how Annabelle grew as she realized what she was truly missing. This story included a few life events, life lessons, and life-long loves. It was a detailed look at the Amish life with some excitement to be had and things to celebrate. I enjoyed it.
I received a copy of this story through Goddess Fish Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
This book has been in my kindle for a week or so, and not that I didn’t want to read it, I knew I would love it, and loved the anticipation.
This story did not disappoint, and loved being back at the Lodge, and reuniting with old friends, and there is a bonus of meeting some of the folks we haven’t been with for quite awhile [previous books]!
Trouble is brewing here with the arrival of a mysterious Bishop, how will these people respond? Then there is a character that I previous did not like, that is now refreshing, and might just find a guy that is really interested in her.
The worse part of this book is having it end, I loved this peaceful community, and the author does a great job of bringing it alive, and I enjoy looking around and just being here!
I received this book through the Publisher Kengsington, and was not required to give a positive review.
Light Shines on Promise Lodge by Charlotte Hubbard is the fifth novel in the Promise Lodge Series. I do recommend reading the series in order. It is the best way to understand the people and the community. I enjoyed reading Light Shines on Promise Lodge, and I did not want this delightful story to end. I thought it was well-written with steady pacing and a good flow. The characters are developed as well as endearing and continue to grow as individuals. All our favorites are back (Bishop Monroe, Christine, Preacher Amos Troyer, Gloria, Allen, Laura, etc.) plus we have the addition of Annabelle and Phineas Beachey. Annabelle’s husband left her to become English. She only knew he left because she caught him searching for her egg money. After her brother-in-law took over the farm and made Annabelle feel like a charity case, she relocated to Promise Lodge. Annabelle develops a backbone along with loving friends who care and support her. Phineas is determined to stay, but he will need to change his ways if wants to win back his wife. Cyrus Helmuth and his older brother, Jonathan make a wager that will end up causing hurt feelings. Hopefully, the pair will do some maturing along the way and learn a life lesson or two. Bishop Clayton King shows up at Promise Lodge claiming their community is too progressive. He is intent on making changes. Trouble has come to their peaceful community. Light Shines on Promise Lodge was an interesting story with its various storylines. I like how everything played out including the appearance of some special guests (I cannot say too much, or it will spoil it for you). I especially liked the mystery surrounding Bishop King. I have enjoyed watching Gloria go from a girl chasing boys to a woman who manages the cabins and apartments at the lodge. There are recipes from the Promise Lodge kitchen at the end of the book. Light Shines on Promise Lodge is a story about forgiveness, love, friendship, family, community and second chances. Charlotte Hubbard is a storyteller of the highest caliber. She weaves a tale that will capture and hold your attention from beginning to end. I hope there will be many more stories in this charming series.
This is the fifth book in Charlotte Hubbard’s Promise Lodge series. Set in a unique Amish community in Missouri, it follows Annabelle Beachey, whose husband abandoned her to become English. Now he wants her back and has traveled to Promise Lodge to reconcile with her. And he won’t leave without her.
There’s the mystery of Bishop Clayton King, who arrives in Promise Lodge, claiming that the community is too progressive and is determined to change its ways, much to the dismay of everyone.
And two brothers who make a five hundred dollars bet on which one can be engaged by Thanksgiving.
This is a beautifully written and heartwarming Amish story about love, hope, faith, forgiveness, and second chances. The plot moves at a steady pace, and the unexpected twists and turns kept me engaged until the end. I really liked the peaceful setting of Promise Lodge, and the cast of characters was wonderful and so realistically described that they pulled you into their lives from the very start. The ladies of Promise Lodge were a caring and supportive bunch. I found it very refreshing that they were independent and owned businesses.
This is a lovely and inspirational read, with plenty of romance, wonderful friendships, an intriguing mystery, and mouthwatering recipes. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
I received an ARC from Kensington Books through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Charlotte Hubbard continues to pen wonderful and heartfelt stories in her novels and she certainly wowed me in the 5th book in her Promise Lodge series. She is an author who draws me into her novels with her complex characters and her compelling storylines. Her characters are filled with love, faith, fun and forgiveness and they will need all of that when newcomer Bishop Clayton King arrives in their community.
Clayton started trying my patience with his demands and his attitude to the point where I wanted him gone.
The founders and residents are much nicer than I would have been but the longer he lived there the more interesting he became to me so I was glad he stayed because he was quite a surprising twist to the story.
I love how the community rallies around each other by offering a safe caring environment to those in need and how they encourage each other to be successful by making the best of their lives.
I really enjoyed meeting Annabelle and Phineas Beachey and I found their storyline touching.
Overall, I have loved the entire series and this book shows once again why Ms. Hubbard is one of todays best Amish fiction authors. I love her descriptive writing, her flawed characters and no matter where she places her characters they always are on the rocky road to where they are meant to be. I happen to like a story that has its ups and downs and some things are worth fighting for.
I received a complementary copy of this book but was under no obligation to write a review. All opinions are my own.
Once again Hubbard delivers a sweet story about forgiveness, love and happiness and all sorts of good stuff in this novel!
This book y’all!! It is full of surprises!! Wonderful surprises at that too! That will keep you on the ball to see what happens next!
I think my favorite part in this story is the forgiveness part. Forgiveness is awesome y’all and makes you feel so much better for it.
My favorite character is Gloria. I enjoyed reading and watching her grow into the person she is now.
Sometimes it just takes a little growing up and the love of the Lord for us to see the shinning light at the end of the tunnel.
Gloria is like me in little ways. Like her, I love observing people without their knowledge. It’s fun watching them to see what they will do.
I love how she tries to do the next right thing to help others. She really is an awesome person.
I felt her heartfelt prayers whenever she ask God for help. I found myself praying right along with her.
At times we all need a little divine help.
All the characters are loved in this story.
But my second favorite is Preacher Monroe.
He’s friendly, kind and loves to socialize and he especially loves gatherings so he can eat
I can see his eyes light up whenever a certain food shows up lol!
But, all of us loves to eat and socialize especially me. There’s nothing like being around other believers. That’s the best kind of company!
I did get a little upset when I found out what was going on though and I wanted to give a few words myself. It wasn’t right and it shows us that Satan is strongly at work even in the Amish world.
I was also cheering for the people of Promise Lodge and they didn’t disappoint!
I just love Hubbard’s story! She’s an awesome storyteller and I really enjoyed staying at Promise Lodge and I hated to say Goodbye.
I highly recommend! You’ll not want to leave Promise Lodge!
My thanks to the author/Netgalley for a complimentary copy of this book.
I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Another book in this series. Enjoyed reuniting with all the people in Promise lodge and meeting others. When a mysterious Bishop comes to promise Lodge things start to change. Also Phineas comes to find his wife Annabelle Beachey who he abandoned in Lancaster Pa to leave the Amish faith. This was a great book with a mystery behind it. I loved the characters and enjoyed the mystery behind Bishop Clayton. It was a book that was hard for m to put down. The author Charlotte Hubbard knows how to draw you to her books.
