Before Dawn, What Dangers Lurk in the Darkness? For nine months, since a devastating solar flare caused a complete failure of the electrical grid, Shelby Sparks and her diabetic son, Carter, have been living at the ranch of Shelby’s high school sweetheart, Max Berkman. Mostly insulated from the chaos surrounding them, Shelby and Max discover that the Texas government has fled the capitol and is … fled the capitol and is barely maintaining control of the state. The governor needs volunteers to search for the new federal government, but no one knows exactly where it might be located–if it even still exists–or what perils await those brave enough to take on the mission.
Compelled by Carter’s desperate need for insulin and their God-given sense of duty, Shelby and Max answer the governor’s call and set out on a treacherous 600-mile journey, where they will experience the terrifying effects of unrestrained anarchy. If they have the faith and fortitude necessary to reach their destination, what will they find when they get there?
In this thrilling conclusion to the Remnant trilogy, America is left teetering between total collapse and the dawn of a new and vastly different reality.

Calling all fans of dystopian fiction, you must read this series by Christian fiction author Vannetta Chapman. You will not be able to stop once you open book one until you have read all three plus the prequel novella.
In book three, Shelby, Max, Bianca and Patrick answer the Texas governor ‘s call to find the Federal Government that is believed to be in Kansas to see what is being done to rebuild the USA after the solar flare. Will they survive the journey?Who will they meet on the way? Most importantly will they solidify their faith in God?
These books opened my eyes in so many ways. They got me thinking, what would I do in this situation? Could I survive? How strong is my faith in knowing God knows my path in life and I just trust if he takes me to it I will come through it.
I already plan on buying this series for a couple of friends and sharing the excitement I experienced while reading.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harvest House Publishers for an ARC to read and provide a review based on my own honest opinion.
I loved this book! Book one and two kept me wondering what was going to happen next…and book three did the same thing! We end up with a sweet and happy ending, and people are still continuing to live their lives after the solar flare by working together. I really wish there was a book four so we could see what else occurs in these characters lives!! I highly recommend this series!!! Vannetta writes so well, I love her books!!!
What I liked or thought of this book:
• The writer’s words painted clear pictures that helped me to visualize the scenes and the emotions of the characters. The author’s writing style was concise vivid, and clear.
• The descriptions of locations and emotions were well done, easy to visualize, and to feel. I felt like I was a part of the scenes with Shelby, Max, Patrick, Bianca, Lanh, and Carter on their quest to find the Federal Government.
• Shelby’s personality was rational again in this book of this series. She was likeable.
• There were many twists and turns to this plot, which kept my interest. There was lots of action and suspense. This book was not predictable.
• The pacing of the story was neither too slow nor too fast.
• There was a smooth, coherent flow to this book.
• This story had a satisfying ending fir this series.
• This was a clean read and I appreciated that.
• This was a Christian apocalyptic novel. Religion was a part of the characters’ daily lives. No religious lectures.
This is a series that is beyond the norm for Vannetta Chapman. When the world no longer has electricity, computers, etc it shows how family, friends and others try to survive in a world gone mad. Definitely a page turner and wonderful characters. I’s not your typical romantic suspense. This is a lot more gritty than what Vannetta Chapman normally writes. She is one of my favorite authors and while I love her Amish books this series and especially “Light of Dawn” will keep you up wanting to see what happens next. One of the best series I’ve ever read. Definitely 5 star rating. Highly recommend this to all readers of Christian fiction.
