A SEXY STANDALONE ROMANCEI don’t do relationships. I’ve lived my life hiding my scars, revealing myself only the in the scripts I write and the characters I voice. Few people know the real me. I’m too careful. Too afraid of getting burned all over again. Enter Beverly Martin. A movie star. A woman so beautiful and caring she makes my heart ache. She says she wants me—and her touch almost makes me … ache. She says she wants me—and her touch almost makes me believe that a girl like her could love a man like me.
But being with her would mean letting the spotlight of fame shine on me, too. And I’m not sure I can do that—even if walking away means losing the woman I love.
“With each novel featuring a favorite romance trope—beauty and the beast, billionaire bad boys, friends to lovers, second chance romance, secret baby, and more—this series hits the heart and soul of romance.” — New York Times bestselling author Carly Phillips
Each book is a STANDALONE romance with an HEA and an overarching story about a group of friends and the local bar they love. Totally hot and utterly binge-worthy!

For Griffin to have his own book makes me happy! This is the 11th book of this series and I am so glad we see Griff happy! What a great story about inner beauty and not looks! I love Griffin! Even if you have not read the last 10… this is the book you need to read! Makes you realize everyone should have a chance of happiness no matter what! Thanks Ms Kenner LOVE LOVE THIS ONE!
Light my Fire is about a character that I have been wanting to read about for a long time and this story was everything I wanted to learn about the character. This was a great story for the character and I really loved the two characters together because they were really great together. I cannot wait for the next book in the Man of the Month series.
4.5 stars
This is the eleventh book in the Man of the Month series and it is a page turner. Griffin has no desire to be in the limelight because of his severe disfigurement from when he was a child. Beverly is a sought-after Hollywood actress currently doing her mc duties for the Man of the Month contest held at The Fix on Sixth. She is thrilled to be a part of a new movie written by Griffin and is even more excited to spend time working on revisions with him. The more time she spends with Griffin, the harder she is falling for the man. Griffin would do anything to have a woman like Beverly. However, he is guarding his heart against heartache as he does not believe that Beverly could be attracted to someone like him. Will Griffin get the courage to act on his feelings for Beverly? Can Beverly be with Griffin if he wants to maintain a long-distance relationship? Can they find a compromise that will placate them both? This is one heartwarming read and I highly recommend it along with the other books in the series. I look forward to reading Brent’s story coming up next.
I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book.
4 Stars
Griffin and Beverly have both appeared in the previous titles in the series, so I was eager to read their stories. Griffin has always been quite elusive, and although he’s a survivor, he hides from the world. In this title we finally get to see more of this endearing character.
Beverly may be a movie star, but she’s very easy going, kind, caring, compassionate, but most of all motivated and loyal.
I liked that although this story is emotional, and has elements of indecision and drama, this pair communicate really effectively and their is no unnecessary angst.
A well paced, quick read and another great addition to the Man of the Month series. It’s hard to believe the next title is the conclusion to the series.
4.5 Beautiful Stars
I believe J. Kenner has save the best for the last. Griffin & Beverly’s story is beyond all the feels of what a quick romance needs to be. I have enjoyed the Man of the Month series, but Griffin’s story in Light my Fire has been the icing on the cake and then some. His appearance has been in almost all the previous novels, knowing he is scarred and is a private man, we know it would take an emotionally strong woman to break down his walls to get to his heart would be an adventure for all to see.
“Too bad he still couldn’t make himself believe that he could have her.”
I loved this book so much, but I only wished it was longer… more content. Maybe because I was so consumed with the emotionally charged chemistry between the characters and the inner obstacle that Griffin had to overcome to let love and Beverly into his heart.
Its sad that this series is about to come to an end, but I know more greatness is in store for us by the talented Julie Kenner and to end this series, I am waiting on the edge of my seat for Brent’s story.
Light My Fire by J. Kenner is Man of the Month book 11. Griffin Draper is a writer and he recently has been spending a lot of time working with move star Beverly Martin and with her help his script is about to be picked up for a hit movie. The chemistry between Griffin and Beverly is undeniable, but Griffin has a problem. Scarred by a fire at age 12, he never lets anyone close or anyone see him. Beverley knows that Griffin is hiding himself but what they share is something that will not be deterred by scars.
These are characters we know from the past books, with others from J. Kenner’s diverse and complex Stark World. The meaning that is hidden in Light My Fire about letting people past the surface and scars being more than just skin deep, make this more than just a romance. This book was more Griffin’s story about letting love in, including his own for himself. The character’s click together and make for a sweet, passionate and loving story.
Overall I enjoyed Light My Fire by J. Kenner, both as part of the series and the overall world, but also as a story about finding yourself and not letting past scars stop you from future happiness.
(I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book I received for free from the publisher in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)
Griffin had a terrible accident as a child that left him scarred on outside. He did his best to hide from the world. He didn’t do relationships or intimacy. Then he met Beverly and she turned his world upside down. He has to decide if he’s willing to pull mask back or stay hidden? Can he have the woman he loves? This may be my favorite in series!
I have been waiting for Griffin’s story ever since he was introduced in a previous series and watching him in the background of the other books in this series he has that special something and now he has found his special someone or I should say his special someone finally broke through his walls and took him down. Beverly Martin is a rising star and when she was slipped Griffin’s script to read she fell for his words and had to meet him and once she did she found the man behind the words was someone special. She saw behind the scars until the scars were no longer visible to her. This was a beautifully told story of healing and learning to love not only someone else but to love yourself. This one can be read as a standalone, as all of this series can, but do yourself a favor and read them all. I cannot believe there is only one more left!
“He’d let her live too long in his fantasies, spinning movies in his head where she was in his arms, her hands touching him, her lips kissing him. Her face revealing only love and not the slightest bit of disgust.”
So bittersweet getting my hands on this book. I couldn’t wait to meet Mr. November and then I just kept thinking slow down and enjoy there is only one book left in the Man of the Month Series. Couldn’t this be a weekly contest instead of monthly? I’m not ready to have this series end. Hopefully The Fix couples can appear in later J Kenner books…hint, hint! Just a slight mention of the Starks in any other book puts a smile on my face…the calendar men would do the same in later series!
“She couldn’t be in the same room with him without fighting her way through an electrical storm of attraction, all the more intense because he never let lightning strike.”
Kenner has a way of taking an emotional struggle within someone and bringing beauty and light to the subject. I love the gentle, real exposure of the physical and emotional turmoil that lives within many and then she turns it into hope, love and light without dismissing the daily struggle it causes many. She brings awareness and healing while never underestimating the intensity, fear and insecurity it holds on the owner.
“…living inside a snow globe while the outside world shook him up…”
A snippet of Mr. December appears as though a possible taboo subject may be headed our way…knowing J Kenner she will shed light on the subject from a new direction and leave us cheering for this couple. Walk the Line is sure to bring us controversy and challenge. Lucky for me I don’t back down from a good challenge.
I have anxiously been waiting for Griffin’s story. I have been intrigued with his story ever since his sister’s book. I would have loved to have seen Griffin’s story in a full length novel though versus a novella. Beverly and Griffin’s story was so touching, but I felt like it could have been so much more if the story was more developed. I continue to enjoy this series though. I have really enjoyed meeting all of the couples. Griffin and Beverly’s story was a good one, I just would have loved so much more.
This is the eleventh book in the Man of the Month series. I have been waiting on this story. I fell in love with Griffin Blaise’s story in Wicked Grind. I couldn’t wait to see him find someone who would love him for him.
Beverly Martin has been in some of the past Man of the Month books. She is a Hollywood Star that has hosted the contest for the Man of the Month, to help save The Fix on Sixth.
Griffin has hid his face from many people because of the scars he got when he was young. In comes Beverly who sees past all his scars. But will Griffin finally let someone see the true person? I love Griffin.
This book was a hard one to rate. So probably really I’d give it 3.5 stars. While it took half the book for them to really get together, as soon as they did, it was a night of sex and then they were a couple immediately the next day. Which, yay, it should always be like that, but it made quite a jump for me to believe. I liked the connection between Beverly and Griffin, and even though we’d met them before in other parts of this series, it still felt like we missed out on a lot for this. I wanted a whole book dedicated to all of their time together. More with Griffin’s back story. More with Beverly’s story before they got together. Missing out on those things, or at least feeling like they were missing made the ending feel a little off as well. I had trouble believing that Griffin would go to quite the extreme he did without more.
This was a very quick read, almost felt shorter than the others have been. It’s definitely worth a read. I liked it, don’t get me wrong. If you take one thing away from this review, know that I would be happy to read this story again, fleshed out with all the things that I felt were missing. I’d love if the author had time for that!
After reading each previous MOTM books, Griffin’s story had me the most intrigued. I think because his romance story with Beverly reminds me of my favorite fairy tale story, Beauty and the Beast. Griffin has hidden in the shadows, but his beautiful work keeps bringing him back into the spotlight. When Beverly enters the picture, she falls in love with what is behind the scars. Their journey for a HEA will have your emotions all over the place. Light My Fire had me holding my breath until the very last page! I can not believe we are already with book 11! This series is a whole lot of sexy and fun! These characters help this series bloom into something magical!
I couldn’t wait for Griffin’s story since the first book and it was worth it! I loved every minute of Griff and Beverly’s road to love! He the writer, her the movie star, he has scars and she’s beautiful. Now his screenplay is being made into a movie and Beverly wants and gets the leading role. This book is full of emotions. It’s a beautiful story!!! I’m so sad to think there is only one book left in this series.
Readers who are up-to-date with J. Kenner’s Man of the Month series are no stranger to Light My Fire’s leading man, Griffin, but even though we’ve seen him in the background and in his interactions with the other couples of the series, it’s not until his own story that we’re introduced to the ‘real’ Griffin, the one who prefers to work and live behind-the-scenes…the one whose internal and external scars dictate how he lives his life and who he allows inside his inner circle. That’s the Griffin that readers have been waiting to meet and that’s the man who deserves his happily ever after, just like all the men of the month that have come before him.
But while The Fix on 6th has become Griffin’s home away from home, allowing him to become friends with a small group of people, who feel more like family, accept him as he is, there’s still something missing from his life, and even though he’s not one to put himself in the spotlight nor does he feel worthy of a beautiful woman like Beverly Martin, there comes a point where Griffin cannot deny his attraction to her or his need to be by her side, even if it makes him feel
J. Kenner paired Griffin up with his perfect girl because despite the fact that Beverly is a movie star and used to being in the spotlight, she’s a caring and down-to-earth woman who has been enamored with Griffin, first through his words and then through the man who he is beyond the scars, and while it’s not an easy challenge to take on, Beverly understands its importance and willingly takes on this difficult role because it’s one that will ensure her the best life and partner possible.
It amazes me how much story J. Kenner packs into these Man of the Month stories; it’s a fast-paced read that builds a complete plot and develops the personalities of its main characters and while I’m sure there would be even more development and characterization if the stories were a bit longer, the texts are meant to be quick, standalone steamy romances with a ‘guaranteed happily ever after,’ and each one definitely fills that role.
4 Poison Apples
I have been looking forward to Griffin’s story for so long and it didn’t disappoint! I loved Griffin and Beverly’s story. Griffin the damaged on the inside and outside, but oh so talented guy and Beverly the beautiful movie star are drawn to each other and develop a great friendship and working relationship. They fall for each other more and more every day they spend together. When they finally work up their courage and admit their feelings to one another, it leads them to love and happiness. Griffin never thought he’d have a relationship and I loved that Beverly saw past his physical scars to the wonderful man on the inside. Truly loved their love story!
Light My Fire by J. Kenner is one of those sweet stories that reminds us all that it doesn’t matter what you look like on the outside, it’s what on the inside that counts. And for Griffin Blaize, a horrific burn as a child had left him to be a man who hid himself from the public eye. He is a man who lives behind his computer and hoodie that is until he meets Beverly Martin. Beverly is unlike any woman he met. She fell in love with his writing and saw Griffin for who he was. A man who was beautiful on the inside as well on the outside. A man whose is worthy of love. As Griffin and Beverly’s love begins to deepen, will Griffin be able to stand the spotlight? Or will he get burned?
Griffin’s book was definitely much anticipated and J. Kenner did not disappoint as she delivered a story that was sweet and most importantly had heart and character. So if you are looking for an easy, enjoyable and worthy summer read that was beautiful then this book is for you.
She took a breath for courage, then lifted her hand, moving it to his hoodie. Gently she pushed it off his head.
“Don’t,” he said, his voice tight.
“Then stop me,” she said cupping her palm over his scarred cheek.
Is the mysterious and damaged Griffin Draper finally getting his happily ever after? The devoted friend and loyal brother has made an appearance in nearly every book in the series, including Wicked Grind, but never had a love interest until now. Severely burned as a teen, he hides his scars behind a successful writing/blogging career and his ever present hoodie. Few people are allowed to see the man beneath the facade and gorgeous movie star Beverly Martin wants to change that. As their friendship evolves into more, Griffin realizes getting involved with a celebrity will throw him into an unwelcome spotlight. Is Griffin ready to reveal his scars to the world to stand beside the woman he loves?
Griffin was in a terrible fire when he was a child and it left him with a lot of scarves. He has always been hiding himself with clothes. Now he is in love with Beverly a famous actor. The chemistry between the two of them is intense. But can he have a normal relationship or does he has to let the women he loves walk away. a beautiful story. it was so emotional and exciting. I loved every single minute of it and I can’t wait for the next book in the series
This is the best one yet – absolutely loved Griffin and could not wait for his story. This was not your typical Beauty and the Beast love story. Scared from a childhood fire accident, Griffin has always hidden behind baggy clothes and never let anyone get close, that is until Beverly, a beautiful actress is cast to be part of his screenplay. With the two working so closely together to get he script where it needs to be sparks fly. The love between the two cannot be denied, but will the scars from his past not allow him to be the man she knows he can be? Or will this be only an infatuation and slowly dim as time moves on? With a heart wrenching storyline and honest, beautiful characters this story should not be missed. This is a couple I would love to read more about!!
