Crimson is in danger of losing her powers permanently… It’ll take a miracle to save her in the upcoming challenge. Add to that a confusing prophecy and a smoking hot demon, and Crimson hands are full.
I’m enjoying this fun paranormal romance series by Carrie Pulkinen. Grey humor, steam, and a touch of snark.
Hollie Jackson continues to deliver with another great narration. An entertaining listen.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
I like how all the books in this series follow the story, rolling right into the lives of the next character and still including the previous characters. Though each romance will stand on its own, for better enjoyment you will want to read this series in the order of release.
Angels and Demons and Witches, oh my! This was a laugh out loud kind of book. I loved every minute of following Crimson and her new found troubles. As a Paranormal Romance fan, I was thrilled about the happy ending. The Devil himself couldn’t even deny this sweet couple their happily ever after!
Life’s a Witch (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 3) by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Gail Guerrero
Four Stars
I couldn’t stop laughing through this whole story. The characters were hilarious and well written especially Crimson. From the first page she had me laughing. Her filter is missing. She is a clumsy witch but it hasn’t stopped her from being who she is. The demon anonymous was funny. I couldn’t help but to enjoy this story. Mike is an interesting character as well. I have fun with this one and can’t wait to read more. It put a twist on the supernatural. In most stories you hear about the paranormal not interacting well together. Here it’s a beautiful grouping of diverse characters. Rosemary can suck my toe with her serious control issues. She just did too much for me. Overall a good read with it serious moments but still making you laugh.
Life’s a Witch (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 3) by Carrie Pulkinen is a delightful little story. Great characters, unique situations and a really sweet love story. There is a very hot and steamy adult situation that some might find uncomfortable, but any book that can make me laugh out loud is a book worth the read.
I have read a few books from this author and she continues to blow my mind with her storytelling. This is the third book of the New Orleans Nocturnes series. You should read these books in order to understand what is going on. I was so excited when I got this book I stopped everything and started to read it immediately. The storyline kept me so addicted I read the book all the way through in one sitting. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this awesome series.
Crimson Oliver was a bad witch but not like you think. She was bad because every spell she does goes wrong. Crimson gets into some trouble that brings her to the high priestess and she ends up challenging her into a magic battle. She knows there is no way she is going to win but she is going to give it her all. Crimson looks for some help and she runs into a hot demon, Mike Cortez. She feels a connection to him that she has never felt before but she was told by her dad to stay away from demons. Crimson is starting to get to know Mike but she gets them both into a deal that only the devil himself can get them out of. Will Crimson be able to save her soul or will will this be a deal she can’t get out of?
Life’s a witch, what a perfect title to grab your attention.
Well, Carrie Pulkinen has, yet again, out done herself. She has, again, created another soul grabbing masterpiece.
Honestly, the amount of creativity and feels Carrie puts into her stories and characters leaves me completely speechless. It is more than just words on a page but a sense of realness and perfectly done story telling. This story had me on the edge of my seat, burying my face into my hands while I laughed and fanning myself.
But seriously – it yanks you in with a ride or die friendship, recovering demons that go to AA meetings, a ‘kind of’ witch that is more than just what she can or can not cast, a spontaneous lust turned into love… what more could you ask for?
You will not regret diving into this gem. My only warning is this story will grab you and hold you captive until the very last page.
This is the story of Crimson Oliver, a witch who just can’t catch a break with her magic and everytime she casts a spell, something goes wrong and Mike Cortez, a demon in rehabilitation who makes deals with the devil and owns a restaurant all at the same time.
The story starts with Crimson as she is about to go in front of the Council of Elders of her coven, which is in direct relation to her latest magical mishap. As the Council convenes and Rosemary takes her place as head priestess, she asks one of the other witches to read out the charges against Crimson which, if they are found to be true, will .end up with Crimson having her power bound and a life in exile away from other witches for the rest of her life and Crimson has no intention of letting that happen as she is not guilty of any of the charges and given the result of her questioning, it looks like that is exactly what will happen, that is until she invokes the goddess and the right to challenge the high priestess to a magic battle and the goddess deems that it shall go ahead, much to the amazement of the rest of the coven, especially Rosemary. It is decided that the two witches have one month to prepare for the challenge and the winner takes the role of High Priestess and the loser has their magic bound and must live in exile, but Crimson is sure that Rosemary only rules the coven without their respect and decides that there must be more to Rosemary than meets the eye and that she will both find out and win the challenge, all she has to do is practice, practice and practice some more.
Next we meet Mike as he is about to go to his meet with a group of like minded demons and remembers to take his angel cake with him, a way to sweeten the evening, he also knows that he is late with his freedom payment when his hand starts to burn and his spine tingle, a sign that the connection between himself and Satan is itching for it to be paid. As the meeting winds up, Mike heads back home, he passes a few guys who he could read and see whether there could be a deal to strike, but he figures that it isn’t worth sending Satan yet another testicle as payment of the deal, he already has enough of those! He also sensed no malice in them and as he normally only made deals with those who would already be damned anyway, he passes on the opportunity, however, as soon as he gets past the restaurant downstairs and into his apartment, Satan is waiting for him, although it isn’t because he is late on a payment it is because he has a job for him, he is in need of a new assistant as his jealous girlfriend has gotten rid of the last one and he will only accept a witch, if Mike can manage it, then he can be free, so now the only thing Mike has to do is find one.
As Crimson and Mike decide to go to the same bar for different reasons and unbeknown to the other, they run into each other and the old flame ignites between them, but soon they have to go their separate ways before one of them decides to do something they would regret. The pull between them is too strong and they decide that they want to see where things will lead, but there are mishaps along the way and when they talk about it, they accidentally make a deal and Mike manages to damn Crimson when she agrees to give her body and soul to the devil in exchange for winning the contest against Rosemary.
This is a romp from New Orleans to Hell and back again, but will everything turn out to plan, or will history repeat itself? The only way to find out is to join the ride and find out.
I loved this book! I haven’t read anything by ms Pulkinen before but I am adding her to my must read list!
Life’s a Witch is the third in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. One of the many great things about this book is that it stands on it’s own. I haven’t read the others in the series, but they are now in my to be read list!
Crimson is so relatable! She is a witch by birth but her magic just does not work quite the way she expects it to. Overthinking? Not thinking? The plot twists and turns as she tries to figure out how to win a challenge and keep her powers.
Along the way you meet up with Mike, 1/2 human, 1/2 demon. And wowza! The chemistry between the two is mind blowing. You’re going to love the scene… well, no I won’t give you spoilers! But trust me you are going to laugh so hard!
This book has it all. A well thought out plot, characters that pop off the page, laughter, embarrassment, and sexy. What more could you want?
Read the book, you won’t be sorry!
2020 has been unreal. And if you’re anything like me, reading (which was already a passion) has become a wonderful escape. And you can definitely do this with Carrie Pulkine’s New Orleans Nocturne series. Light, funny with a touch of angst and a good romance, Ms. Pulkinen has quickly become a go-to author for me.
Life’s a Witch (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 3) is my latest read by this fun author and I was not disappointed. Now, keep in mind, all of Ms. Pulkinen’s books can be read as stand-alone reads but you will get oh so much more enjoyable if you read the books in order. One of the good things about doing this is that Ms. Pulkinen keeps the story moving through each book. There aren’t any “story gaps” between the books (which is AWESOME). You’ll be engaged in each story from the very beginning and pick up more and more details and nuances in each book, so yeah, read them ALL. But back to my review…
This is the 3rd book in this fabulous series and follows Crimson and Mike. And what a pair these two are! The sparks fly between these two from the get-go (and it’s not because Crimson had another spell go awry, lol). I fell in love with these 2 characters so much! I think they might be my favorite couple in this series so far. The shenanigans and circumstances that these two find themselves in are so crazy but hysterical. And the romance – WHEW!! Steamy but sweet! With the added benefit of the wonderful sub-characters and great story, this book was a true pleasure to read. I will definitely be picking up the next book in this series!

I really enjoyed this book!! It made me laugh quite a few times whilst I was reading it, the story was fun to read and I really liked the characters. The author has a really fun and engaging writing style and the story was so easy to read. I thought that Crimson was just such an awesome character to read about, I think she is probably one of my favourite characters this year, she made me smile and laugh so much – I absolutely adored her and her clumsiness! I loved Mike as well – they were so perfect together!
I would recommend reading this series in order but they can also be read as standalones. I am definitely loving this paranormal romantic comedy series and I would highly recommend it to other readers!
This is the third book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. This story follows Crimson, a witch, and Mike, the devils advocate. Crimson cannot cast a spell right to save her life. The High Priestess has about had enough and is ready to flip her over to being human permanently. Enter Mike. He wants her. She needs to cast spells. Mike does an oops and now they must trick the devil himself to save her. What a great read! I seriously cannot get enough of this series!!
Life’s a Witch is book 3 in the New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen. This series is hilarious and I highly recommend it. As you can see from the titles- the author has a great sense of humor. Super natural is not my normal genre of book, but I love these. They are about witches, vampires, demons, etc but they are not dark and super paranormal. They take place in New Orleans in modern day and are so light hearted and funny. This book focuses on Crimson and Mike, a witch and a devil’s advocate. It does contain Crimson’s friends, characters from the first two books, but their involvement is so minimal is it is not necessary to read in order. You could start with any book and go back and read the others if you wanted, or read as a stand alone. I love the author’s writing style, she is great at describing the situations and people. She also had me in near tears several times due to laughing so hard. There is a scene that takes place in the bathroom after too many bean burritos- I was dying! Highly recommend this series, its a quick read and it will keep you engaged from start to finish.
Lifes a witch is the third book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen. This series gets better with each book you read. In the third book we get to know more about the witch Crimson Oliver. I really liked her character i found her very entertaining. When she starts dating demon Mike Cortez the book gets even better. I loved mike and his character i felt him and crimson were perfect for each other. I found this series very funny and entertaining and the relations between characters were really fun to read about. This series is really worth the read if you havent yet make sure to add this to your TBR pile 🙂 Thank you Carrie Pulkinen for writing this wonderful series and i cant wait to read more of your books.

Crimson is a witch whose powers don’t work well. Crimson is on trial for some minor mistakes she made. Then when the evil high priestess is about to bind her powers, Crimi decides that she will call a Supremacy Challenge. Meaning whoever wins will be the High Priestess of the New Orleans coven. The one who loses will lose their power and be exiled from New Orleans. Then enter recovering demon Mike. Mike makes a mistake where he ties Crimson’s soul and body to the Devil himself. Find out what happens next!!!
LIFE’S A WITCH is the third book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series and it is Crimson’s story this time. She is the witch with malfunctioning powers we met in book two. Due to that story, she is brought before the coven and told her powers will be bound. In a reckless desire to remain a witch, she challenges Rosemary, the high priestess. What follows is chaos and mayhem with a little bit of brimstone and love thrown in for good measure.
I loved how there was a Hellions Annonymous meeting for all recovering demons and that they ate angel cake to help curb their urges.
Although I liked Ethan, book one didn’t do much for me. Book two with Sophie and Trace was better. This one is the best of the bunch so far for me. It has the same humour and similar situations as the others but it flows more freely now.
Absolutely recommended by me.

This was a sweet and fun story! I love Crimson and Mike together. They have a good flow to their relationship and I was rooting for their HEA from the start. I so recommend this series for anyone who enjoys lots of humor mixed with their paranormal romance. I can’t wait for book four to come out!
Life’s a Witch is the third book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series.
I voluntarily received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Final Rating: 5 Stars
Book 3 follows witch, Crimson, as she falls for half-demon, Mike. There are some seriously funny moments. The devil is hilarious. I love how Crimson gains confidence. I really love Mike and his guilt over his job. I love that Crimson goes from bad to bada$$. I love that they are both willing to sacrifice for love. The funny twists, and the help from her friends made this a very enjoyable, quick read.
Crimson is a bad witch. She’s not wicked, she just isn’t very good at magic and can’t cast spells very well. Now her coven’s high priestess wants to bind her magic and ban her from New Orleans. So…Crimson challenges the priestess and now she needs a miracle.
Mike is a demon and is the devil’s advocate. He wants to date Crimson not damn her but Satan needs a new witch. Can Crimson and Mike learn to trust each other and work together to keep her out of the devil’s hands?
I’ve really enjoyed this series and this book is no exception. It’s a fun, well-written read with wonderful characters. Full of intrigue, romance, and humor, I was caught up in this book from the beginning and kept hooked until the end. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.
Crimson is a witch you can’t cast a spell that does exactly what she needs it to do. No, instead it fails or never happens at all. She’s gotten herself into one mishap after another and now has to face the music so to speak. In this case, it’s having to deal with the one witch who has it out for her. In her moment of weakness, she calls upon a demon to help her get through the challenge. What she doesn’t realize is that you should never trust a demon, no matter how hot and sexy he is! Now she’s in a jam she can’t get out of and has no hopes of doing the right thing and having things go right. I loved the humor that has plagued each book in the series! The author has done a fantastic job of creating fun, likable characters who are a bit of misfit and in need of help. I loved the whole book, a winner!
