What is it that they say? Life’s a witch and then you die. Change and I have never been best friends, something that’s only gotten clearer from my transfer to the Guild of Guardians. Aka punishment for stealing a magical object. Now I’ve got to hunt down criminal supernaturals to pay off my sentence. The men in my new team don’t want me around. Neither do the other inmates. They just want to push … inmates. They just want to push me to my limits, test me, thinking that I’ll fail. But they have another thing coming. I’ll pass everything they throw my way, and I’ll prove I’m worthy.
Life’s A Witch is book 1 in the Guild of Guardians series, a supernatural prison academy reverse harem with plenty of action, swoon-worthy men, and a heroine determined to end up on top.

Welcome back to the incredible world that Andra built during the Guild of Shadows series with Luna. This time we get to follow Astra Luna’s BFF. Astra attempts to steal the information back that was stolen from Luna’s mind without her permission but she is caught during the act. As punishment she is sent to the Guild of Guardians which is made up of other criminals all tasked with going after even worse groups that break the rules. Astra struggles with this thanks to her autism but her assigned team is not helping anything as they each have their own issues to work through. Makes for some tense situations as they try to figure everything out while staying alive. A fascinating paranormal prison reverse harem romance that will keep you hooked thanks to the incredible world building along with intriguing characters. I cannot wait to see what happens next. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
A great start with action, plot, and interesting characters as they developed in their own way. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I enjoyed reading this first book about Astra , I can’t wait to see how her relationships develop and am definitely hooked.
Couldn’t put it down. I love this author and I thank her for her work. I loved the title of this book
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4219506863Life's a Witch was quite the pager turner . This book had action, comedy, hot guys and a never give up female lead. This book definitely left me wanting more. In this book we’re just getting to know the team and their relationships are still forming. It had a nice progression, not too slow and not too fast. I gave the book 4 out of 5 stars and. I would recommend this book if you like slow build reverse harems. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
*WARNING* contains sexual content. This book was okay. There was a lot going on. That was a problem for me, at times there was so much going on the the story seemed busy….forced. I like some of the characters even though I have no idea how or why any of them have “gifts”. When the story started, Astra had a ” Guardian gargoyle “, but as the story went on, it’s not mentioned again. So busy that I became confused.
While reading this book I kept thinking of the Willy Wonka line, “The suspense is terrible. I hope it lasts.” The tension between Astra and the guys, plus between the guys themselves, is very compelling and I’m definitely ready for the next book/s. Only a touch of spice, but the hints and promise of so much more is exciting!
When Astra tries to help a friend, things go south very quickly. Blamed for theft, she ends up in prison at the Guild of Guardians. Together with other convicted criminals, she is ordered to hunt down criminal supernaturals as a way to pay off her sentence. The team she gets assigned to struggles with their own demons though, making it even harder to adjust to her new life.
This book is the start of a new series. Because it is set in the same universe as a previous series by this author, it is necessary to keep a clear head while reading the first two chapters. Things are explained very quickly, and I had to slow down my reading for those chapters, but once you’re at the third chapter this book becomes its own story and flows more naturally. I love atypical heroes, and this book is filled with them. The geeky interactions between Tor, Pascal and Astra brought a big smile on my face each time they talked comic books. I like the vulnerability these characters show, and the way they all have their own demons to battle. Knoxe honestly deserves a few knocks to the head (pun intended), but the author still makes him into a redeemable character. The spice is low in this first book, making the book focused on a decent storyline, but I did like the spicy interactions that were described. They had a different feel to them then a lot of other books and I’m looking forward to find out how they develop in the rest of the series.
I do recommend this book if you like something different, and especially if you’re interested in atypical heroes with a certain vulnerability.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Loved the different POV’s. Astra gets in trouble helping out a friend and finds herself in The Guild. There she is assigned to a team that lost a previous member. Can she fit in? Knoxe can’t get over loosing his best friend. Tor is trying to be the clown to hide his feelings. Raze has some secrets he wants to stay hidden. Pascal is a sweetie and just trying to get by. Will they all make it as a team?
I love Astra! Sure it took a while for me to warm to her, but I got there lol. I love how her mind works, and the fact that she has a the ability/power to break things down to a molecular level, that is some cool stuff right there! Who knew science could be fun!
We get to meet the team, and get an idea of the power play at work in the prison. There’s some world building, and teasers of the characters backgrounds, without giving too much away. I do like a secret or two! Bring on book 2 already!!
Meet Astra and her Guardian, Obsidian. Astra is smart, stubborn, loyal and on her way to prison for trying to help her best friend. As she tries to come to terms with her new life, she rapidly learns that life really is a witch when you’re only trying to survive.
Follow Astra’s journey as she, along with her team of oh-so-sexy men, undertake a manhunt of epic proportion in their efforts to regain their freedom and stop a monster.
When all is said and done, her life will never be the same!
This book was spectacular in so many ways!!! I loved the characters and how there all so violet ery unique and to add autism and Aspergers to it makes this series standout in amazing ways and more appreciative and how it’s different more darkish then Guild of Shadows. But still just as amazing and awesome. I loved the nerdy geekiness of it and the comic scenes and the details of it. Makes me wish I had the actual comics to read lol. I specially loved that Astra finally got her own series and soon to be harem possibly. The plot was brilliant. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. I loved reading this book so much! Highly recommend it to everyone.
Oh, oh, why can’t I split stars on Amazon? I don’t exactly feel like 4 stars is right here but three felt too small. As a reader who feels mostly at home in the paranormal world with creatures most find only suited for Halloween, I felt a little let down by this book. I felt like the main character was a little too wishy-washy or weak-willed and it was NOT because of her illness. I felt like I was missing backstory by not having read other books by this author, which I now know is because it’s a shared world series. Though, as I read, that feeling went a way and got more into the characters. I hope book 2 continues where this one left off as I was really getting hooked.
The beginning of a good story with some intriging characters and interesting plot. Lots of action and emotions throughout the story about paranormals thrown together in a harsh situation to fight the worse types of paranormals
Life’s a Witch is the first book in Skyler Andra’s Guild of Guardians series. Get ready to meet Astra. Astra just wants to a friend a favor who’s in a bad situation, but soon it’s Astra who’s going to be the one who is need of help. She gets caught stealing and is sent to the Guardians for the next 25 years for stealing from the Guild. Now, she has a whole new mess to deal with, but she doesn’t plan on going quietly.
Life’s a Witch is one of those books that grabbed me from the beginning and kept me page-turning! I love a good book that hooks me in and this book does exactly that. I will admit that I question Astra’s actions…quite often in this book. LOL! It all starts from the beginning with her deciding that answering a phone call during academy hours is the brightest thing to do. I get it; it’s in the name of helping a friend who has been wronged, but still. Then things just go from bad….to worse. I have to say that I like that the author doesn’t use the stereotypical characters. The author uses characters who aren’t the norm meaning that they have disabilities. I love that they aren’t limited by them. Astra has some really cool abilities that I love when she uses them. Her breaking things down into their molecular basics are just honestly awesome.
This book is a lot of fun, but I have to agree with Tor on one thing…Knoxe needs to get the stick out of his butt. I mean…seriously! I get that losing someone close to you is hard and really messes with you, but dude!!! This guy is…over the top. Every time he opens his mouth rudeness pours out like crazy! There are moments of where I really just want someone to smack him! It just seems like he really doesn’t care about anyone or anything else other than getting back out on another mission to kill the one who ended his friend’s life. There are some moments of levity with him of where he tones down the jerk-y behavior…but they are few and far between.
Astra and Tor are the real driving force behind the humor in this book and I love it. I love seeing the chemistry spark up between them. I will admit that I roll my eyes at Astra a few times because she’s a bit ridiculous. The way her mind wanders off with her fantasies…LOL! Now, there are some odd…moments in this book. It’s like there are time skips? Astra gets a week in solitaire, but that just seems to be skipped over? Does she even serve her time? Then she gets some random guy to help her get to the training room because she’s lost, but…what happens to him? He’s there one minute and gone in a blink with no explanation. It’s just weird for me.
I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. This book has alternating chapters between the characters which really is great for giving readers a taste of all of them, though the story does focus on Astra mostly. I really enjoyed it. I get to see all the complexities of the characters and I love how the author builds the storyline. If you are looking for a good paranormal story with snark, drama and some steamy romance then I recommend this book!
I love this first book in this series. I enjoyed learning about these characters and it was a page turner. I can’t wait to read the next story. Highly Recommended.
I thought this was a good book. I wanted to throttle the principal guy at Astras school in the beginning but I guess you can’t be too mad since she got her hottie potaties. I was also pleasantly surprised how the author wrote the character in on the spectrum. I thought perhaps it would derail the story but she was able to do it in a way that was subtle and made Astra endearing. Great job on this. This was a great start to the series. I can’t wait to read the next book.
This book is the first in a spin off from the Guild of Shadows series. However, I feel like there is enough backstory in the book that it isn’t necessary to have read the first series to appreciate it. Astra Nomical, our main female character gets caught stealing for her best friend and ends up in the Guild of Guardians which is a jail that sends teams out on dangerous missions to catch more dangerous creatures. Once there she is thrown into a team of 4 very broken men who are less than welcoming. You can feel the attraction, but they all seem to have a way of pissing each other off rather than being welcoming. Astra slowly begins worming her way into the hearts of each of the men and you can see what direction her relationship is headed. This is a very slow burn for a RH, but it is well worth the ride.
This is a good start to Skyler and her team’s story. This is an intriguing start that has mystery , angst, emotion and plenty of action. I am intrigued to read where the story goes. I was slow to getting into the story but once captivated I couldn’t put the book down.
This is an amazingly written original! The most unique paranormal Paranormal Prison Romance!
The concept of the prisoners having to work to try and police the supernatural world in “teams” to the heroine and other crazy unique characters (Pascal <3) make this one of the best and stand out paranormal prison romances ever.
So much so that it made a genre I was bored of feel totally new again.
Astra and Pascal are so refreshing as it shows characters who have autism in a completely new and awesome light and their powers completely fit with both their autism and their personalities!
The powers in this are more akin to superhero powers and are completely unique to both the characters and in general (I have never read about a character with the powers Pascal has ever!).
Its wonderfully written and I am just completely in love with both the characters and the world and am totally going to whizz through the next one!
