Metaphor on steroids, a magical book.
I read this boom ten years ago. The message stays with you
Love, love, love this book
great book
I loved this book. I read it way before the movie came out, so it was really interesting to compare my own visual images to how the director of the movie interpreted it. I have to say, they were pretty spot on! I have to say I was quite surprised with the ending. It was a twist that I did not see coming. Excellent writing.
Magical – no way of figuring the line between what is supposed to be real and what is supposed to be fantasy! As often is, I enjoyed the book even more than the movie, which i loved!
I am not sure I have ever read such an unusual, creative tale that leaves me so utterly unsure of whether the story is true, based on truth, or pure fiction. This book is at times, touching, suspenseful, entertaining, and unpredictable but above all unique.
A metaphor for life.
One of the best books I have ever read. I have bought many copies and gave them away.
I liked this book, but didn’t love it… I was always interested in the story but never so much that I couldn’t put it down for stretches at a time. Parts were really creative, and I wondered more than once if it was based on a true story (but was convinced by the end that it was not).
a favorite
Such a well-written book–I loved the author’s style. It drew me in from the first words, into a world that fantastical and yet somehow believable. The plots and characters were well-conceived, but the ending just blew me away. I am not one who likes to ‘solve’ mysteries. Instead, I love the fun of seeing the mystery unfold before me throughout a …
Simply Fantastic!
Very confusing to read
Great book, everyone should read it
Exceptional
One of my favorite books. Great read
Just a great book … Read it when it first came out but it does stay with you!!
Never having seen the movie but intrigued with the story I decided to read the book. This is now placed in the top five best pieces of fiction I’ve read. Thank goodness I didn’t see the movie, the writing created the world of the characters probably better for my personal experience.
This was my favorite of the books he has written. I remember when I was reading it and I thought it would make a great movie. And it did. He uses animals in an usual way in his books.
