A very original and magical book. It is a bit slow in the first section but hang in there! It gets very compelling after that and I had a hard time putting it down! It will haunt you a very long time. Highly recommended!
This is one of my all time favorite reads. Vivid and original characters linger long after you close the final page. Profound and moving, it brought tears to my eyes.
A beautifully woven story. I was hesitant to read the book based on the jacket synopsis. A boy is stranded on a life boat with zoo animals. There is so much more than this. I highly recommend.
The beginning of the book was hard to get started and at times I just wanted to give up. Once I got to the part (about a third of the way through it) where the tanker sinks and Pi is on the lifeboat with Richard Parker it got interesting. To the point that I would like to see the movie now that I’ve read the book.
A perfect book
Sad because I like animals. Most people loved it.
This book is brilliant, and I was captivated by the first 100 pages. It challenged me with the religious aspect, and I really loved how Martel tried to weave together the religious allegory of three contrasting religions. Some may find this aspect of the story sacrilegious, although I think it’s important to read stories that challenge you.
I …
This should have been titled “The Neverending Story.” It just went on and on and on.
The book sort of goes out of sequence, where there may be some storytelling at the beginning. I will say that the book gets a little graphic with images in the middle to end when pascal is on the boat with the tiger, and all the animals start going nuts and eating each other.
Inspired story line
One of my favorites
A thoroughly great read.
Over my head.
I really liked it and I found out there is actually a movie to this book so I am on my way to watch the movie!
I did not enjoy
Loved this book and was captivated from page 1.
I became a Yann Martel fan over this book and ended up teaching it for an 11th grade reading comp class. Martel taught me that narrators do not have to tell the truth, something I now use in my own writing.
Hard to follow and strains credibility, even though it is a metaphor.
Terrific exciting story
Couldn’t put it down !
