Thought provoking
Hated it. Dark, violent, distressing, and ultimately unresolved. Beware: this isn’t a cute Disney story about a kid and a tiger in a boat.
lyrical
Beautiful, tragic, and surreal. A work of art that is enjoyable to read.
Slow
Loved the Journey, but not the destination.
The end ruined an otherwise wonderful book.
Liked how it made one think of it was real or not. Great page turner!
I loved this book.It was quirky, touching and inspirational.
A book that really makes you think.
Excellent book, except the island was too bizarre
I tried reading this book when I was really depressed so my one star is more about me than the book. I have many friends who have read it and said that it is a great book. I decided to put it back on the shelf and read it later. I will do a proper review then. As for now I would go with my friends and give it a read.
This is a wonderful, imaginative, story that was like a dream sequence that stretched reality but yet seemed so believable. Left me smiling and unlike most dream stories that are quickly forgotten, this one will stay with you. Highly recommend.
Well done.
couldn’t get into this book
I was blown away by the big reveal towards the end of the book.
Picked this up after my son read if as part of his assigned reading for High School.. Was wonderfully surprised and glad I picked it up.
Fortunately ,I read the book prior to seeing the movie that succeeded in deleting the messages and impact of the the book. Recommended .
OK… so Remember Hemmingway’s “Old man and the Sea”… Update your idea of the story, add a big dose of curry, sprinkle lightly with karma then let your soul simmer in this lovely passage.
Wasn’t what we expected in Book Club. We laughed a lot during discussion. Will need to reread it sometime!
