What happens when the apocalypse arrives, not via nuclear weapons or a comet but as Levels and monsters? What if you were camping in the Yukon when the world ended? All John wanted to do was get away from his life in Kluane National Park for a weekend. Hike, camp and chill. Instead, the world comes to an end in a series of blue boxes. Animals start evolving, monsters start spawning and he has a … spawning and he has a character sheet and physics defying skills. Now, he has to survive the apocalypse, get back to civilisation and not lose his mind.
The System has arrived and with it, aliens, monsters and a reality that draws upon past legends and game-like reality. John will need to find new friends, deal with his ex and the slavering monsters that keep popping up.
Life in the North is Book 1 of the System Apocalypse, a LitRPG Apocalypse series that combines modern day life, science fiction and fantasy elements along with game mechanics.
This series contains elements of games like level ups, experience, enchanted materials, a sarcastic spirit, mecha, a beguiling dark elf, monsters, minotaurs, a fiery red head and a semi-realistic view on violence and its effects. Does not include harems.

Wow, what a creative and inventive storyline. This writer is pure genius in their storylines. I could not dream up the storylines that they do in a million years. This kept me riveted to every page until I had devoured the entire book. I love all the characters and creatures of this book. The descriptiveness of this book gave me shivers. Would definitely read this again and again.
The book that coined System Apocalypse! Such an enjoyable series!
I give Life in the North: An Apocalyptic LitRPG (The System Apocalypse Book 1) by Tao Wong, 5 stars.
John was in the middle of the wilderness, enjoying the national park he was currently camping out in. One day he wakes up and feels like he is in the middle of one of those role playing fantasy video games. He has no idea what is going on. But he follows his mantra and just deals with it. Little does he know just how much things have changed. Will he be able to adapt to this new world or will it destroy him?
I have read a few books now by this author in this LitRPG genre, and I have loved every one of them. This book is no exception. Along the same lines as in it follows the RPG feel, it is much different too. This one has the feel of more of a survival game. My boyfriend and I have been playing Seven Days to Die, and this reminded me of that, especially in the beginning. I loved that. The fact that this author so flawlessly combines two of my favorite hobbies is so exciting to me. The story itself is so interesting and you don’t want to put the book down. In fact, I was disappointed I came to the end on what seemed like so little time.
The characters are so surperb also. John has to adapt and grow throughout this book, and you really feel what he is going through. Not to mention the people he comes across too. Some of those quickly become allies. Others, not so much. But they are all different and that is great to see.
Overall, if you are a lovers of books and RPG/survival games, this book is for you.

This is my second book by this author and as the first I did enjoy this story. Again not my chosen genre but this author finds a way to make these stories interesting and I find I can not put it down while reading.
This story took a whole different approach to everything, nothing like what I normally read, I never really connected with John, and there was quite a bit of the story I had to reread to understand what was going on, but then there were other parts that I sincerely enjoyed.
I would recommend this story for those that love this genre and I will definitely check more out by this author, who knows maybe by the time I’m done I will be adding another genre to my favorite list.
Life in the North by Tao Wong was a very interesting read. I really liked the details Wong puts into the background story and building the World for the story.
I personally wasn’t a fan of the Main Charecter, but as a reader, I don’t think the main charecter always has to be a beloved charecter. I really thought the secondary charecters were likeable and stood out to balance my dislike for the main charecter.
I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars, I couodnt put it down.

This is my first time reading a story like this and honestly overall I enjoyed it. It seemed to have a twist to the genre from what I know about the traditional litRPG. I found the main character to be a bit repetitive, agonizing Over the same issues and emotions he faces but the adventures and actions were well written and fun to read. I enjoyed the supporting characters and the world that was created before me so to speak. I’d read this author and genre agian in the future, I’m glad I gave it a try.
Life in the North by Tao Wong
Four Stars
Life in the North: An Apocalyptic LitRPG is the first book in The System Apocalypse Series by Tao Wong. This is the third book I have read by this author, and although I don’t read many books about gaming, these are fantastic. The author has great world building skills and there is enough details so I understand what is going on. I think this is the best book I have read by this author so far, and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. The hero, John, is flawed, but I think that makes him interesting. If you like LitRPG this is a great book to have on your shelf.
4 Star
Life in the North:An Apocalyptic LitRPG(The System Apocalypse Book1) by Tao Wong is the first book in The System Series. Ive read other books by this author and I enjoyed this one just as much as the others. It took m ed a couple of chapters to get into but after that I couldn’t put it down. All of his books read like video games it’s a different style of writing that the more I read the more I like. This story is about John and he just wants to get away from his life. Like going camping or hiking he wants to just be for a while. But instead he finds himself trying to survive the Apocalypse. Can he survive and make it back to civilization?Does he end up stuck in the middle of the forest with the animals and the monsters.?Johns character is a bit of a loner, but he does hang with friends.I highly recommend reading this book especially if you want to find out if John ever makes it back to civilization. I can’t wait to read more from this author and this series.
Tao Wong’s Life in the North is the first in the System Apocalypse series. This science fiction/fantasy novel is a complex story with full engagement required. It’s not often I read books within this genre, but I was pleased once I read this story with my decision to step outside of my comfort zone. This story has an immense amount of detail to garner interest with the story line and characters. Overall, a solidly good read.
This was a departure from what I usually read. Very interesting premise and gripping storyline. I didn’t connect to the main character right away. But the story drew me in. I found the writing style to be a bit choppy at times but it overall didn’t detract from the story enough to keep me from continuing. Overall a good book. I look forward to seeing how the series continues.

I remember when I first picked up a book by this author not only was it completely out of my comfort zone but I had no clue what LitRPG and it is through reading these books that I have found another genre to read! I love the uniqueness of Tao Wong’s stories – it is actually really refreshing to read something different and unpredictable.
I liked this story and think it might be my favourite that I have read by this author so far. I liked all of the action nestled amongst some good twists and turns. There was more than one occasion when I wasn’t sure if John was going to survive what was going on around him.
The story is well written, I will admit it does take a little bit of time to get into but I think it is well worth sticking with especially if you are looking for something a little different to read.
I am looking forward to reading more from Tao Wong again and more from this series!
Life On The North (An Apocalyptic LitRPG, book one of the System Apocalypse) written. By Two Wong. So I had no idea what LitRPG meant so incase you don’t it means combining modern Life with some sci fi and fantasies along with game mechanics. This was a new genre for me, I have never read a book like Life On The North before. There are 4 books on the series and all are out right now. John was the main character he was okay, he didn’t exactly stand out to me as a great character. The story overall was pretty good there were a few things that could have been better, the main character needed a little more depth to him
Life in the North: An Apocalyptic LitRPG (The System Apocalypse Book 1) by Tao Wong is an action packed look at what our world would be like if it suddenly acted like Role playing games. This story follows John, an average guy that decides to go hiking for the weekend to get away for a while. Then the world goes mad. The animals suddenly become monsters and he is forced to adapt to a world that suddenly has very different rules. This book was in an entirely new genre for me and it was interesting to say the least. I found the main character to be realistic, with flaws and weaknesses, and this helped me to look past the RPG aspects of this book. The plot was very interesting and kept me interested throughout. Definitely a four star worthy book and I find myself excited to read the sequels just to see where the story goes.
John is a deeply guy with no luck in the world. His apartment burned down, he lost his job, and broke up with his girlfriend. He decided to get away from civilization for a bit to get some perspective and took a trip to the Kluane National Park. Unfortunately while he was asleep, the world was turned into a literal RPG and this is not the kind of thing John wanted to wake up to especially since his level is at 0 and the suggested level for this area is 110+ according to the weird blue dialogue box that keep popping up in front of his face. John quickly gets a guide to help him understand the basics of the “System” and sets out to figure out the craziness that his home planet has become. Will his life get any better or will it stay as bad as it’s been, just with an astronomically higher chance for a gruesome death by monster?
I just recently started playing D&D so this style of litRPG was extremely intriguing. There were parts especially in the beginning that were pretty slow but I think that was purposeful since that is how basically any game starts off. John was a bit unbelievable since he kept making references to all his pent up rage and what not but I didn’t really see any of that come out at all even during fights when it could have been used to push him farther or past an edge so I’m not really sure what the reason for that was. Maybe it will become clearer in the next book? Either way I’m fascinated by the concept and will absolutely be getting the next in the series
I was introduced to LitRPG by this author a little bit ago. It’s a very interesting way to read a story and in LIFE IN THE NORTH, I found myself reading in different voices as new instructions were given and new characters introduced.
Oh, btw, LitRPG is defined in Wikipedia as: LitRPG (Literary Role Playing Game) is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are ‘meta-aware’.
LIFE IN THE NORTH features great world building, interesting challenges and secondary characters. Things are explained well and the story moves along at a really decent pace. The MC has “issues” and there were times I wanted to kind of shake him a bit “just keep going, just keep trying, just keep running and you don’t look back, not ever”. Other times he has a sense of humor and made me chuckle “And that’s how I ended up with three new guests and a half-dozen mini-pony dogs.”
I think this is a great genre starter if you’ve never read it before and I look forward to finding out what happens in the next “Level”

Life In The North: An Apocalyptic LitRPG by Tao Wong is the first book in his The Systems Apocalypse series. This is a highly unique and interesting story.
When John goes away for he hopes will be a fun weekend the last thing he expects is for the whole world to end. Finding himself in an unprecedented situation it is up to him to find his way home while avoiding the new monsters that are spawning around him.
This isn’t the first book I have read by this author but it is probably my new favourite. The book was intense, fast paced and packed full of detail. I loved the fact that this book, like the others I have read, involved gaming elements. It made the book unique and such an interesting read. I was hooked from the word go and couldn’t wait to see if John would make it back. This book is certainly a page turner.
Life In The North: An Apocalyptic litRPG (The System Apocalypse Book 1) by Tao Wong
This was a very different and interesting book for me. This isn’t my usual genre and I thought I would give it a try. I enjoyed a lot of the supporting characters in this story. I thought the world building was excellent and the fighting kept me reading. It’s really difficult to get into detail without giving anything away. I do think this was a well thought out story and I found it to be a bit dark, very dystopian which I enjoyed for a change which was a surprise to me.I also very much enjoyed the originality of this story. I am looking forward to diving into the next book in this series because I think the maturity of some of the characters will begin to grow and I look forward to finding out how they grow and where this story is going to take me. I recommend reading this book.
Life in the North: An Apocalyptic LitRPG (The System Apocalypse Book 1)

5 out of 5 stars
The story of Life in the North: An Apocalyptic LitRPG (The System Apocalypse Book 1) by Tao Wong is a science fiction/fantasy book. It is a story that has action, danger, and animals that are mutating/evolving. It gives you the feeling of being in a role-playing game. I was constantly on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. It is a story that I didn’t want to put down until I had read the final page. John is a man that just wanted to get away by himself as a series of situations have left his life a mess. When he awakens one morning he finds himself responding to a blue box that has appeared, trying to get back to civilization and looking for other survivors along the way. Will John be able to learn and adapt to all the changes that have occurred? John is a man with his own sense of justice and doesn’t hesitate to take action when he believes wrongs have been committed. He also is a man that analysis his past and sometimes feels a hollow emptiness inside. There are other times when his anger overwhelms him. The animals/monsters that are introduced give this story plenty of scenes that make you wonder if John is going to survive. This is the first book in a series and I can’t wait to read the next one to find out the direction that the storyline goes in. This is an author has written a wonderful book and has created a wonderful character that I enjoyed reading about.
Life in the North (The System Apocalypse #1) by Tao Wong was a fast paces epic read that had me at times putting it down because, things be scary.
This was not my first time reading something by Tao Wong, so I knew going into this book I was in for something that was well written, engaging and full of unique creatures that will give me nightmares.
I was not disappointed.
I’m going to keep this review simple, because I don’t want to giveaway even a single detail. So I will tell you that, that the MC is a bit, moody, on the anger side. I wasn’t to found of that and felt like it could have been toned down a little bit, though it did come in handy when things started to go to hell. But again, the moody anger, was a goof flaw to have, it was just a bit, extra at times.
For the story itself, it was a different take on how one would see the world ending, or trying to end. Though I can seen it, and it’s a bit poetic. I loved the matching tone and the increasing danger, I loved how the story wasn’t dragged out, keeping your focus and keeping you engaged. This made for a fast read and one that had me wondering where the rest of it was. I’m happy to say this is a series, and I will be getting my hands on the next book.
Over all I highly recommend you get your hands on this rare take on the apocalypse
Happy Reading

Life in the North by Tao Wong is my first ever LitRPG experience. Let’s say that I was pleasantly surprised at what I came across.
To be honest with you, I wasn’t even familiar with this particular type of genre, and didn’t know that it existed. So, when I came across it – I figured why not give it a try. What I got from it was unexpected. I’m not a gamer, by any means. So diving into this world was a first for me.
I was pleased with the way in which the author created a world where it was easy to follow along, as well as characters that were well developed. I liked John’s character, and his journey in this world which came out of nowhere for him.
I would definitely consider this book a 4 Star Book. I don’t think that I would consider this to be my favorite genre, but am glad that I had the opportunity to explore it.
