I absolutely love Ann’s Deadwood mystery series and I was so excited to hear that she and her husband were embarking on this new series, the Deadwood Undertaker Series, which is sort of a spin-off of her original series. This new series is set in Deadwood in the late 1800’s and takes the reader back to the Old West.
What I love about this new series—aside from cracking up over Ann’s amazing, fun sense of humor and the zany, lovable characters she creates—is that I get the background story that could, maybe, sort of, explain the craziness that Violet, Doc, Harvey, and all the rest are dealing with in present time in Ann’s Deadwood series. It’s so much fun to discover the connections between the two worlds.
I devoured Life at the Coffin Joint and can’t wait for the new installment this summer when book #2 comes out!
I am not sure which genre this actually is but it is definitely something with a lot of paranormal elements.
It is similar to Ann Charles “Deadwood” series but is set in the old days when gold diggers were all over Deadwood.
It sucked me right in and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. Definitely another winner from Ann Charles. I’m looking forward to read more about Clem, the Executioner, and the guys.
Being German, I enjoyed all the German words and phrases spread out all through the book – especially since they were spelled and used correctly. Something that isn’t always the case in other books.
Love the sasy character. Couldn’t put it down….
A fun weird west book
All I can say is that, though entirely unbelievable, this was a purely fun read for me. I loved the sequel as well. Suspend reality and just enjoy the book.
Already reviewed it.
This series doesn’t hold my attention like the deadwood series. But its still high on my list.
Will continue reading tbis series. Love Love the characters
I felt like I was in the old west and the characters are likable. The situation is serious but the humor and the phrasing and word choices make it fun.
Clementine Johanssen is a strong heroine, an executioner with a calling she can’t ignore, yet Ann Charles and Sam Lucky have made her real, likeable—honorable. As Clementine struggles to unravel the mysterious murders taking place in the Deadwood area, she has the help of three men, Rabbit, Boone and Hank, men who instantly champion her, and even embrace Clem’s calling to rid the world of evil forces. LIFE AT THE COFFIN JOINT is a supernatural page turner filled with adventure, peril, and compelling characters! I can’t wait for the second book in the series!
This is an entertaining book. If you read it at night, make sure you have all the lights on.
Love Ann Charles! This is set in historical time, but it’s the story Before her Deadwood series. Great characters, great storyline.
I really enjoyed this book. It more or less tells the back story of the Executioner in the Deadwood series that involves Violet Parker becoming one. Very good read!!
A great start to a new series
This series is based on the early beginnings of the Deadwood Mystery Series, it’s set in the late 1800s when Deadwood and other local towns were just building themselves up. Ann Charles and Sam Lucky do a wonderful job writing this story. It has lots of wit, humor, and paranormal mystery, along with many historical facts all wrapped up in one wild ride that will keep you reading well into the night. A fun read that you won’t want to put down until you reach… The End … For now.
Love any Ann Charles book
Woohoo, an all-new series from Ann Charles, author of the award-winning Deadwood Mystery series, and this time she has help from Sam Lucky, (AKA Hubby 🙂 )
These two have conspired, Um, collaborated, to take us back to the beginning, back when Deadwood was new and slaying ghosties and ghouls was just beginning in the Old West.
With the backdrop of the old west, they created some great characters, like Clementine Johanssen, a tall short fuse and hot-tempered undertaker hired to clean up this new town. Oh, and let’s not forget a couple of Santa Fe sidewinders, Rabbit and Boone, a couple of cowboys you are going to fall instantly in love with who will have you in stitches as they fall in with Clementine to find out exactly what happened to their uncle.
Add to this mix of unlikely characters, Hank Varney, Clemintine’s helper, a man who is a lot more then he seems.
This story is peppered with some historical facts and a lot of fantastic fiction and will have you glued to your seat as you flip through the pages!
Five Stars Ann and Sam, and I can’t wait for more!
I love everything by Ann Charles however I prefer the beginning of the Deadwood series where there is a beginning, middle and ending. I didn’t get that with this. Now I have to buy the next book and hope that the story ends there. Otherwise I love her writing.
I have loved all of her other books but I can’t get past the first couple of chapters on this one.
