If you’ve read Twilight, you know the story. It is the same play with different actors.
I love how this remake totally twists some people’s ideas about Bella’s character. Beau is relatable and realistic, and Edythe is feisty and fierce. I honestly like this more than the original!
I had to read this book, because it was in honor of the first Twilight Story from 10 years ago. The characters are in reversed roles. It was interesting, but I was so taken with the original Twilight characters that it was hard for me to focus on this plot. I know this is silly, but I was hoping I might find out more about Edward & Bella’s life ten years forward. I think it would be awesome to find out the story of Carlisle’s and Esmee’s romance and about Edward’s life before and with them. SORRY for rambling!
Stephenie Meyer is definitely famous for her books, though whether it’s a good or bad famous depends on people’s opinions. I happen to think that Meyer, despite harsh reviews and critics, is an excellent writer. Some people simply don’t like the plot lines of her novels or her novels in general, but Meyer does a commendable job building up suspense in the Twilight books. Life and Death is a new perspective to Twilight, with Bella and Edward’s genders swapped. Bella Swan is now Beau Swan, and Edward Cullen is now Edythe Cullen.
Personally, I enjoy Life or Death better than the original Twilight, simply because WHEN ELSE HAVE YOU EVER READ A TEEN ROMANCE NARRATED BY A BOY? Sorry. That’s just my teenage hormones running around. Anyway, Beau does have a slightly different personality from Bella, and Meyer swaps out Bella’s more sophisticated words for more boyish ones with ease. It’s interesting to see how Beau’s narration of Life and Death differs from Bella’s. The classic Twilight scene where Bella is rescued by Edward in Port Angeles becomes almost a feminist one in Life and Death, where Edythe rescues Beau from drug dealers, instead. Beau and Edythe have a more riveting relationship in Life and Death because Beau is so intrigued by her, perhaps even more than Bella with Edward.
Life and Death differs extremely from Twilight’s end, as Meyer wrote Life and Death for Twilight’s tenth anniversary. Despite it playing second fiddle to Twilight for most, I have to say that I, for one, loved it.
(Now what are you waiting for? GO READ IT :))
I loved the original twilight. This is horrible. It doesn’t work with a helpless guy, he’s just a crappy character. I couldn’t even finish reading it, it is that bad.
I am a twihard
Loved this one much more than the original saga. I liked the characters better in this one and loved the plot. Wouldn’t mind a sequel. 😉
I would have rather had Midnight Sun…I’m just being honest. That being said however, it was interesting to see the little twists and differences had the genders been switched in Twilight. What I liked and disliked most (in equal measure) was the ending. I won’t spoil it for those who want to read it, I will just say that things went a little differently than you’d expect. I still think I prefer the original version of Twilight to this, but I’m not sad to have read it. I like exploring alternate versions, universes, endings, and retellings.
I seriously loved this book and hope it gets made into a movie!
